I took a 1/2" extension, cut off the male end and welded a 7/8" nut to it. Works great. You could use the cresent to turn the 7/8 nut. |

Yesterday I installed and tentatively adjusted the passenger side fender bolts, then installed the front latch plate. Today I cleaned, painted and installed the catch plate. Any tips for adjusting the latch bolt? |

No photos of the five minutes on my truck, did some grinding and cleaning of rust on floor, very close to getting it in primer.
But I also had to make a tool to remove the springs of my Rambler. I made those and they came out great. The springs have little brackets at the top and the bottom for this tool. My SnapOn spring tool wouldn't work, not enough room. Brian |

got my new 2 row fan pulley to run my a/c compressor, new 18inch fan, severe duty fan clutch, and got my fan shroud ordered. need to get some hardware this week and hoping to have the shroud by the end of the week.

Got out there for a real "Five minutes" tops tonight, welded up some spots I noticed that I missed on the patch at the windshield. Welded, ground, done deal, not much but som-then got done.

Adjusted the fenders and hood gap on the passenger side. Came out real nice. I still have to add the rubber bumpers.
Then I installed my radiator only to discover that despite a previous trial fit my fan was now contacting the lower outlet - wth? Apparently readjusting all the front sheet metal had caused the core support to shift left, creating interference. So I cut about 1/4" off each fan blade and balanced it with a lawnmower blade balancer. Worst case scenario, I go to an electric fan, but I really want to avoid that if possible. |

You are right in heavy exercise, things like pumping heavy iron or jogging can be hard on your body, that's for sure. A fast paced walk is pretty easy on joints. Brian |

As usual I'm awaiting mail order parts so I must find other small tasks to keep my build progressing.
My original parking lights were shot. I wanted to convert them into turn signals but the cost was a deal breaker, so I used cheapo truck marker lamps. I fabricated a simple bracket and bolted them in the original park lamp mounting holes. They're dual bulb so will definitely be bright enough, plus they look like they were made to fit. And at 1/10 the cost of repro turn signals I like the price as much as the looks! |
Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I like those lights. Good job.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
That's a great idea on the lights, got any pics of fitment and bracket?

metabo. the only grinder you will need and the last you will buy. soft start (how many times has a grinder jumped out of your hand when you start it?) and microprocessor controlled load torque, wrenchless disc change too just turn it off and as it is spinning down push the shaft lock. I bought a 6" model so I could run 4.5" to 6" discs, because the cost of 4.5 flap discs is nice compared to 6", but the extreme usefulness of a 6" thin cut off blade is great too. |

My 5 minutes today was cutting and riveting a piece of sheet metal for behind my MC. It might be overkill, but I've seen some guys do something similar to help brace it. I riveted it in case I take it off, I've already learned that some of my ideas arn't great or I think of something different. Hopefully this is something ill keep with, it also had the added benefit of covering the old holes from where i moved the MC over.
Tight fit but it's perfect under dash. Now I need to brace it to the dash. I think I'll make some arms to go where steering column holes are. There's just enough room to slip the factory brace on top too. Like I said it might be overkill. Any suggestions? |
Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Seeing your brake pedal support reminded me.....of how old man stupid I am.
Back a week ago I came across the stock one for my truck, while looking for the one for the cowl vent. I brought them to the truck to check fit and to cut them because of the sectioned cab. I put the cowl vent one in and it set right in place, what the hell? Well, I thought being I sectioned this cab over 20 years ago I just figured I drilled new holes in the cowl. Ok, so then I went to put the steering column one in, yep, it was too long. So I cut it in half then stuck it in and it fit in two pieces where I couldn't put it in one, what the hell? I pulled it back out tack welded it back together and stuck it back in. Then pulled it out and fully welded it. I thought I had re-drilled those holes too, that's why it was fitting, ok.... Then that night in the shower with it going over and over in my head it hit me, OMG I am a friggin moron, the top of the cowl came down WITH the dash so there was no change needed for these two parts! WHAT AN IDIOT! :waah: I can't blame it on being old, I think I have always been this stupid. Brian |
Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
It's nice to know it's not just me moving and redrilling and then readjusting... and now I have to tack some "arms" in, then pull it out and weld it and paint all nice and then maybe finally I can put it in and never remove it ever again. Fingers crossed.

my new fan shroud wont fit an 18 inch fan. I ordered a 17 inch fan and set up my return of the 18 inch.

OMG My National Detroit 900 works once again! Guys, this tool has been broken for a few years now. I don't do bondo work any more at the shop, but when I was I had two of these, that is how important they are, they are a MUST HAVE tool for this work. I got a new part for mine, oiled it up and it works again! I feel like Eric Clapton picking up his Strait after years of not touching it. I can't wait to get cutting some bondo, this tool is like an 8" block, I can't wait to get back up to speed with it, I can cut a panel to needing only a fine tune with a block using this tool. OMG I can't believe how good this tool is, I have been using my DA and 6" orbitals for removing paint and what not and they work like rubbing a friggin newspaper on it compared to this thing! I had forgotten what a BADARS tool this is! I was just going to get it going and head into the house to crash on the couch as I came home beat today. I tested it a bit on the top of the cowl and I was HOOKED. I stripped the dash in minutes, wham bam done deal. WHOOO HOOOOO!
