That is correct. The control arm bushings on the C10's thru '72 were steel with a grease zerk. The C20's & C30's continued to use the steel bushings thru '87.

I think that I heard that the 71 and 72 were steel on steel in the upper and lower control shaft threaded ends and that 73 and up were rubber mounted in the shaft ends. Does yours have grease zerks in the ends??? if so, it is probably is 71/72,

Man that sucks.....sorry to hear that :(

Dave,
Coming from a guy with his share of dogs around him you know I feel for you. They become family really quick and are all forgiving. Sorry to hear about this.

Thanks guys. It going to be hard to put him down. He's been my best buddy. I think he likes old trucks more then I do.;) On the lighter side I just got some corvette bezels on ebay for $30.:metal:Now I can be just like Strodder.:( See falling asleep helped save me some money. Now I can afford to buy two more. I'm going to order my dropped spindles but I don't know what I want. It seems there are two different types modular ones for like 300 and reg dropped ones for around 220. I'm thinking I'll get the spindle upgrade kit for 71-72 from cpp 269 you get the dropped spindle, upper ball joints and outter tie rod ends. I don't know if I need the tie rod ends if I go with rack and pinion? I wonder if I could swap out my upper/ lower shaft assembly for the new 73 type with the poly bushings? Transmission guy still has'nt even looked at my 3 speed went in today it was still sittting where I put it. I'm going in tomorrow and kick him in the balls then take it somewhere else. Ok I might not kick him. Well if I could get away with it I would.

Sorry to hear about your dog. We had to give up one of ours bc she was viscously attacking our other dog. One of the hardest decisions I ever had to make. Now back to the trucks. Stop the rust and they will outlive all of us!

Very sorry to hear about your dog. My wife and I have been doing Rottweiler rescue for about 10 years now. We lost two to bone cancer this year. The first was our first dog together. We caught it very early and lucked out. Her right front leg was amputated and we did Chemo. We got another year and a half. The second boy, it was about 2 months from when it was diagnosed to when we had to put him to sleep. He was not a canidate for the amputation.

Our friend's girl just had an amputation because of cancer, less then a month ago and lost her last week.

The one thing I can say is that bone cancer is very painful for the dog, and spreads quickly.

Euthanasia is never an easy decision. I have been through it too many times. I know what you are going through right now.

You can change over to the '73-'87 control arms and shafts no problem, they will bolt up to the '71 crossmember.
