One of those random posts today.

As always, thanks for checking in and commenting.

I have not done anything like this for some time. Well, since my charity bicycle ride a few years ago that so many people supported. And that went beautifully because people literally donated what they could. From the coins in their cars to some amazingly generous and large donations that had me choking back real tears.

Sally is doing this Moon Walk from a point of real conviction and the least I can do for her is to spread the word.

If you feel this is not your circus, not your monkeys, it is quite OK.
But if you feel inclined to donate any amount to this worthy cause, please follow the link and donate.
Sharing the link, if you feel it may help spread the word is good too.
I can only thank you deeply on behalf of Sally and those who benefit from Breast Cancer research, male and female.

Click the link to see more and decide if this is a worthy cause to contribute to.

Thanks again for any responses.

Remember the 24th January this year.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO DONATED TO THIS WORTHY CAUSE.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

I believe it is still open for donations, any size would do.

Sally and Sal (Sally) have completed the full Moon Walk.

She reports that they are both knackered.

AND THESE MEDALS ARE FOR EVERY ONE WHO PARTICIPATED.

THANK YOU AGAIN.

Re: GRIZZ’s English 2001 S10 Extra Cab 4.3 V6 Truck

Header tank has been a PITA for @nickwheeler and I.

Various options, from a Cripple Cock cider bottle to a home made, 3” exhaust pipe tank and a walk around the bootfair today all failed.

I was going to try UncleBob the hoarder to see if he had something interesting or random.

Most of my day was spent around Sally, and the crazy woman, despite no sleep and doing that 26 mile night walk, fetched Bonnie and came to play with her in my garden, you call that loyal beyond any shadow of a doubt, and that is to a dog she made a covenant with.

Eventually at 5.00 she went home to go crash and rest, so I went to the garage, only to get a call from @brachunky way up north on a farm, we spoke for an hour about our home town and what an 1150GS with 80k miles was worth.

After that I dug out this little tank in the hope it would work as a header tank.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Then realised it was just not going to be right.

Planned position was drivers side inner wing.

Then I fetched the original MX5 unit, oddly shaped to fit into the tight space in the engine bay.

Everything back to front……

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Tried to figure out how to make it work.

Pulled out some compressor hose that @disasterbus dropped off here months ago.

Went round to Mickey to try find some small jubilee clamps, failed, then came home and robbed two from my 7 horn La Cucheracha air horn trumpets that Nick does not like.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

An hour later, some brackets made, painted, the front grille moved back, to allow the hood to close.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

And finished.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

I am pleased with that.

Looks good and another small job done.

Planned on some painting of the boards I did for the floor yesterday, but decided a mug of tea and a cheese sandwich sounded better.

Shop closed by 7.00pm.

Happy.

Re: GRIZZ’s English 2001 S10 Extra Cab 4.3 V6 Truck

A hectic day, including 2.5 hr national meeting in which I was mentioned twice for different things, both good.

Left early and saw this threatening signage, wonder why a road being resurfaced, needs CCTV

What a screwed up world this has become.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Afterwards I needed a bit of random distraction.

So took the seats out, cleaned the inside of the car and masked off parts of the tub, then painted.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Masked

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

One side.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Both sides.

Just looks tidier.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

I also painted all sides on the floor boards.

Just to help weather proof them a bit.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

And all done.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Binned the sponge roller I had used and cleaned up my hands, pushed the Rockit back under the roof and shut shop.

Before I left, I noticed this nursery of new baby spiders.

I wonder how long average house or garden spiders do live.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

I prefer not to mess with them.

Re: GRIZZ’s English 2001 S10 Extra Cab 4.3 V6 Truck

So it has turned out that there are a few people who really wanted to see Napalm Nellie as baptised by @pauly rolling down Route 66 and others looking for interesting cars, trucks and life in general in the 🇺🇸

A few screenshots from chats with Dennis and JB Math again confirmed that like @alistairk experienced, there are helpful people out there.

Needs to be read in sequence.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Speaking with Dennis yesterday it turns out there is no title for the camper.

So I think this plan will be shelved.

And confirmed by JB Math as well.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

So for now, it seems Napalm Nellie has to be put to the side.

Something else will surely pop up.

Who knows.

Getting a bonded title in AZ wasn't too bad and not very expensive. I had a '69 Biscayne where I had to do that. If the vehicle isn't all that valuable, there's not too much worry. Not sure about the state where it sits now, however.

Pueblo, Colorado.

Would head to Missouri though.

And be registered inDennis’ name, for me to use yearly.

Painted the lower kick panels black this morning, they may get carpet or not

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Nick had suggested, rightly so, that I add some padding or insulation type material to the flooring to which the carpet will be attached and wrapped around, to prevent it wearing through in days, weeks, real fast, due to heel action.

So the yoga mat will hopefully be useful.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

After work I pulled the thick ply out, cut some templates (the two sides actually differ a lot) and drew on a pattern to cut out.

Shaped, ground back, fitted……

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Paint to follow later.

The hole at the rear is where the roll bar will be mounted through onto the chassis.

And yes, different for a reason, the seats are completely different and mounted differently.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Small job done, but it saves an hour later.

Re: GRIZZ’s English 2001 S10 Extra Cab 4.3 V6 Truck

Facebook never forgets.

9 years ago I went on a long distance ride through and around South Africa with my brother for my 50th birthday.

REPORT HERE: https://wilddog.net.za/threads/grizz...videos.106063/

An awesome trip, loads of places revisited from my youth and past.

This morning was 9 years since I went to look at the first house I designed and built in Simonstown, near Cape Town.

The builder did the columns it stood on and the shell, then I moved in and completed it.

Seems I have a bit of a masochistic streak in me for longer than I recall.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

At 07.30 this morning I was out, painting the two sections I made last night with more battle ship grey, textured floor paint.

Leaving it to dry all day.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Result.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Back home tonight After work I bordered all the edges of the tub in black, keep in mind, there are black carpets going in.

Should blend nicely.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

I also gave the rear floor sections a coat of black over the textured grey paint.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Took Bonnie the crazy dog for a walk on her new 10 meter, 30 foot lead and saw the first Poppies of the season.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

So a bit boring tonight, but more jobs that have to happen by magic, taking up time along the way.

Thanks for checking in.

Re: GRIZZ’s English 2001 S10 Extra Cab 4.3 V6 Truck

Bought some supplies on the way home.

Fresh Light Bulbs for the rear lights.

Impact glue for the carpeting.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Marked out on the yoga mat.

Glue on both surfaces.

20 minute drying time, while I removed the masking tape from the body tub.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Fits.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

And with the inserts in place.

Plus the padded kick panels in place.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Waiting for Sally to come over to make some cheese and onion wraps in the grillerI sanded back the fiberglass filler that went on into the press stud holes months ago.

Rubbish stuff to flat back, but will need to be done before paint anyway.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Last night I taxed UncleBob’s Bedford truck on an old J reg, Free Road tax of course.

He insisted on me sending a receipt and proof of completion.

So I put it in a frame for him.

Tonight Sally brought me the frame back, and in it a pic UncleBob had sent me.

I love the fact he was ready to bat it straight back at me.

Not clear, but a load of information in the pic.

Love it.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Happy?

Yes.

Sally sent a pic.

Bonnie the mad dog, loves water, and having had a couple of baths after being in mud or stinking after farm walks, now jumps in the bath herself and waits for a bath.

I keep saying the same stuff over and over again, but dayjob is a pita so I need to grab bits of time to do even the most arbitrary of jobs just to get away from it.

Yesterday was Teams meetings, strategy (I hate it) and admin tasks.

So my very late lunch/earlier weekend resulted in a whitewash. Hence the Billy Idol reference to bleaching.

Another flashback to what was delivered on 11th September 2020

Time flies.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...8DE0E7EA70.jpg

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_5803.HEIC

I had tried hand buffing some of the rust stains away with G3 compound.

Resulting in this.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Not that impressed.

So maybe a machine mopping will help, also to remove some of the grinder dust that has rusted to the flat surfaces on the body over the last 6 months of working on it.

Typically, back to work, and then when I wrapped up for the week, I headed out and unpacked the car completely, sealed up exposed wiring looms and plugs etc.

The pulled out the bleach, a bucket of water and a washing cloth.

Big brush, bucket of bleach gel.

Ideally spray the body and apply gel over water, this allows activation and oxidation to get going.

Kills moulds that grow in the exposed fiberglass.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Rinse.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Dry, drill out drain holes for potential future puddles in the footwells.

Put away and go walk the dog for 3 miles.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Looks a bit cleaner.

I think.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

And went for a 3 mile walk with Sally and Bonnie the dog……

Saw this road, down which we walked…… report in the Chevy S10 thread elsewhere. Or to followon other forums.

Maybe it is a sign.

Hell, I do hope so.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Time to get this thing wrapped up, but we know there are loads of jobs.

Yes, they keep coming.

Went for a 3 mile or 5km walk with Sally and the Dog Bonnie.

WW2 pill box.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Zooming on, on the Thames river banks.

Sheep, should taste really good feeding on the salt marsh grass.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Amazing stuff the tides bring in.

Just not easy to access, and a long walk to carry home.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

And the tide washed up a truck.

Tempted to carry it home…..

Sally just laughed and laughed.

Re: GRIZZ’s English 2001 S10 Extra Cab 4.3 V6 Truck

Yesterday was one of those extremely rewarding days.

Very little to show for it.

But a big step forward toward getting the car safe and on the road.

Remember the 5 point racing harnesses Dennis sent me recently?

Time to break them out.

After all……

Safety.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

For all the zoooomers you can see the basic profile for the roll bar drawn on the blue card.

So the shoulder straps get bolted to the shoulder high cross bar.

Lap straps are bolted to the chassis through the transmission tunnel and on the seat where the original seatbelt locking cable used to sit.

Floor mounted crotch strap is again bolted to a cross brace.

With all of these points established, it was time for what turned into a big job, small evidence, but great outcome, like a 1 carat diamond engagement ring.

10mm steel plate that has been on standby for 12 years, retrieved and cleaned up.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Big ass grinder fetched from the darkest corner of the garage, safety boots pulled on, new steel cutting blade attached.

Cardboard template copied onto the steel, hearing protection, glasses.

Footplates Cut.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

One Cleaned up.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Pair of them.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Then more measure, plan, cardboard, copy, cutting.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Try for size

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Much drilling, bolting, visualisation

Paint can caps representing a large diameter roll bar welded onto the mounting plate.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Next up, cut the heads off some bolts to leave decent studs.

Chamfer rears to ensure good contact and penetration of weld.

Weld into place, test roll bar mounting plate fit, grind back welds.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Disassemble and set up in modern spray booth for paint.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Paint, walk away, allow to dry, return, flip over paint and leave to dry.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Very happy with this result.

Close shop at 6.15, pour a heavy gin and tonic in a pint glass, drink, go shower, pour another pint of mothers milk.

Relaxxxxxxx.

Then John the lodger got in around 7.30 and offered to buy us a take out Indian curry meal.

I was certainly not going to cook, offered to pay my way, he declined.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Dinner was good.

Sleep was not.

Awake by 3,45 and out to a disappointing bootfair by 05.45

But managed to get 11 pairs of safety glasses for £10.00 and also some foam squares to glue to the inner scuttle/firewall 4 for £1.00

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Should work a treat.

Breakfast next.

Grizz1963 05-23-2022 01:39 PM

Re: GRIZZ’s English 2001 S10 Extra Cab 4.3 V6 Truck

@nickwheeler" wrote the following up:

No precision was wasted making these parts .

It was time to do something about these ghetto hose-separators:

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

The hoses are 7/8" diameter, and the bulkhead fitting spaces them 38mm apart.

Scribe  some that looks about right marking to some 8mm aluminium plate:

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Hack off, and clamp to the mill - a drill press would do - and drill four 22mm holes because that's close enough to 7/8":

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

I milled two straight and parallel edges because I could, but that could have been done with a file. Hacksaw them apart, and lop off the corners:

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Mill the new edges straight and parallel to the originals, and shape the ends with files:

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Like this:

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

I rubbed them across 120 and 240 grit DA discs on a piece of granite, using plenty of glass cleaner for a smooth, bushed finish.. No pics, as I did that in between dinner and going out.

Old vs New

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

And on the car:

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

The 22mm holes are slightly looser than I'd like, and will benefit from a touch of black silicone next time we have some out.

Much happier.

Grizz1963 05-23-2022 04:53 PM

Re: GRIZZ’s English 2001 S10 Extra Cab 4.3 V6 Truck

Did I mention that Sunday was a busy day.

Loads of yard work etc.

Eventually got started on the car, working on the floor, fitting the seats etc.

Nick and I had planned a few progress jobs.

Get the brakes bled through, get onto the rear lights, in order to button that up.

And then this week @nickwheeler remembered he had a large kit to pressure test cooling systems.

So the cooling system prime and test was on the cards.

While I carried on with my jobs, he fetched a watering can of water, called for a large funnel to fill the radiator and cooling system.

I carried on cutting metal and drilling, my power tool noise induced reverie suddenly torn apart by Nicks scream of disdain (OK maybe I have exaggerated)

So I flew to his side to find this.

Look closely, look again.

Pssssssssssss……

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

After some weird angle photos, and a bit of wriggling, pulling and pushing and loosening, Nick had a trophy.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Problem.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Some internet research showed that this is a known weakness in these engines.

Poop.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

Clearly, being a known and recurrent fault, has led to it to be exploited to the max.

Crazy money.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

I managed to contact an independent who agreed to selling me a used part for a 1600cc engine at £40.00, just need to make a gasket, used to have gasket paper….

A long time ago.

Another job planned was the brakes.

Errrrmmmmmm…..

No, not happening.

A long time ago, the one brake hose that came with the car, seemed perfectly fine.

On Sunday, no flow, either with pressure or suction.

So using the last of the braided hose, Nick made a new brake hose.

Testing the old pipe, with a stainless steel welding rod it seemed it was blocked solid.

At the rear a similar scene played out as well.

Bloody soul destroying.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds

So there you go.

Still no start.

As Quoted: What is it they say, 90% done, 90% to go

I like that.

Well

That used part did not work.

Part he had to sell was wrong side.

After some digging around he pulled one out.

But same flaw and damage.

Walked Away. Around the corner to an engineering shop.

Where the shift extension came from.

20 minutes consultation later……

I will try fix it myself.

Drill this out @8.5mm

Being out in the garden before 06.00 this time of year, does have it’s perks.

Same can be said for insomnia and being done with early morning admin before 06.30 as was the case yesterday.

First training meeting of the day was -9.15 on Teams.

So I thought getting these to front floor sections wrapped up, made sense.

Sections cut from the roll of carpet I bought.

Contact adhesive both sides, laid down, trimmed, stretched, glued on the rear and two parallel sets of 10mm staples run in.

Perfect. I hope.

Other side.

Done.

Happy with that.

A small carpet will protect the heel area on drivers side.

So……

One of those awkward jobs done after work.

Well, the prototype really.

As I only have enough vinyl for one go at making the black gearstick gaiter.

First job was to remove the rubber from the original MX5 rubber unit.

It will be used to hold down the final gaiter…… far from a professional job, but anyone is welcome to pop over and make me one or mail me a complete replacement piece.

Measured and filed away the excess.

For those who forgot….. the extension of the gear stick makes the sweep more exaggerated so the hole has to be bigger.

I fetched the roll of “Rusty patina” vinyl originally bought when I wanted to buy @pedalcarjoe ‘s wagon, from the garage,

Initial plan was to make 4 piece pyramid.

Then lodger John arrived with 6 mini Pork pies, and a tub of Chicken Kiev Scotch eggs, a Sprite for me as I never use alcohol if power tools may be used and a Desperado beer for him.

“Why not cut a huge circle, pierce the centre and drape it like a skirt, pin it top and bottom…. Job done”

BUGGGERR…..Of course he is right, or is he.

Both options.

Draped.

Captured.

So……..

Will it work??

Later today I will cut the black to size.

Then the transmission tunnel carpet has to be measured, cut and glued down.

Followed by refitting the floors, seats, maybe even the last time.

But first, I need to get some new work shoes and apply for a new passport.
