It's so nice to see the 67-72 K trucks, my favourite 4x4 of all time and then the Blazer/Jimmy next.

Thanks. The drive train and suspension is off of a 77 K20. It has a 350 with SM465 Transmission, NP205 Transfer case, Dana 44 front and 14 bolt rear with 4:56 gears. I should be done with the interior in a couple of weeks then I'll start on bodywork. Bought it from Colorado and towed it back to Texas. Not too much rust. I to repair a spot in the floor and a rocker panel. Still need to fix the rear cab supports and some minor work on one cab corner. Overall a good truck.

It's cool to have the kids involved, I taught both our twin girls to drive a standard with my 71 K10 with 530hp, took a bit but once they caught on could drive anything newer with ease.

Finally found a 3 door! Been looking for one for quite a while. Its got typical wheel well rust in the rear as well as the passenger side rockers are really bad. Going to daily drive this one as soon as i fix the transmission. Only reason i could afford it is because reverse is gone! Heading to grab a transmission for it tomorrow! I was going to rebuild the original myself, but found one on craigslist that was rebuilt and never used cheaper than i could buy the rebuild parts. :metal:

Eventually i would like to lift it a bit with some bigger tires. For now, just going to install my hand controls, fix the transmission, and make the heat work a bit better!

maybe one of y'all know more about this? anyone know old numbers? I crapped out on google..

and yes it was known to all previous owners and titled as a '71 although we know different ;)

Re: post your 67-72 4x4

Most any brand add a leaf is about 3" max lift, so front could be a 4" spring lift, back looks higher than 3" though, maybe has a 2" block also, most add a leaves settle in at about 2.5" so could be 5-5.5" in back, hard to tell without being there.

Re: post your 67-72 4x4

The Rancho Shock Part Numbers on your Invoice 9001 / 9112 are the 4 inch lift shocks for 1973 to 1987 Trucks, the front shocks are the same back to 1969 I believe, I believe the rear were different though, but the 9112's are so long, they probably fit anyway.
The invoice says SUP HD springs 01-255, these are Super Lift 6 Inch Lift front Springs for 1967 to 1972 Chevys. So the front shock may be a tad short...
I see an add a leaf for the rear. We would sell a 4 inch block kit, and add a leaf kit when lifting Chevys 6 inches, I don't see a 4 inch block kit though.
There is a Rancho steering stabilizer and bracket listed also.

Hope this helps.

thank you very much for your thoughtful and informative reply!

I guess I'd have to call tuff country, sent a courteous email and two follow ups a week apart.. seemed reasonable..

I'll take some pictures underneath and bounce that off your info to see where it's at..

previous owners may have made changes since that invoiced work but I don't recall seeing any blocks under there..

not my area of expertise by any means so all info much appreciated, thanks again!

Re: post your 67-72 4x4

By the look of the stance of your Burb I would say is has a 6 inch lift. The front must be all springs, which I see it is. The rear can be all springs, or blocks and springs as needed. Definitely take a picture or two of the rear set up and we can see what you have. An add a leaf is uaually a sorter thick leaf found near the bottom of the spring pack. All the stock leaves will be the same thickness, except the bottom overload spring.

mud.man.rj 01-09-2018 12:28 AM

Re: post your 67-72 4x4

All the add a leaf kits I buy are a full length minus about 1" each end than the top leaf, the super thick short leaf is an overload, but some companys "try" to seel them as an add a leaf but don't actually lift the truck any more than the thickness of the leaf cause the ends of it doesn't touch the spring above it.
Someone may have had a 4" block they used with the add a leaf in the rear. I keep a bunch of different heights in my shop. Guess you have to look.

Re: post your 67-72 4x4

What do you have for lift to clear the 37's, I have 5.5 f and 5" back to clear 35's but are 14.5" wide. Really like your truck a lot, was wondering about your bumper, nice job on it, works perfectly with the body.

Re: post your 67-72 4x4

I am using 6” lift springs and the rims are 17x9 with4” backspacing.

mud.man.rj 01-15-2018 11:26 PM

Re: post your 67-72 4x4

I see the big difference, the 6" isn't much different but the narrow rim and tire compared to my 12" wide rim and 14.5" tire is why I can't go taller, well happy with my 35's but think a narrower tire would be a bit more highway friendly.
Thanks.

How are the road manners with the 54" fronts? Are you running a sway bar? Awesome truck BTW!

beadblaster 01-16-2018 06:17 PM

Re: post your 67-72 4x4

Not sure how it is with the 54s as I just finished truck. I have king shocks on it with compression adjusters and a Currie anti rock sway bar on the rear of the truck. I may add a anti rock on the front if it is really soft but the compression adjusters on the king shocks should help. To add the Currie sway bar to the front is super tight because the cross over steering uses a 2 wd steering box which puts the pitman arm opposite of the 4wd box. I will have to cut the sway bar arms and add bends to clear.

Hey. It's been way too long since I posted anything on mine.

1969 GMC K1500 LBW
-- 350 (stock bore, 71 block, 4bolt), 305 53cc heads, Edelbrock 1406, Performer intake, FloTech headers, Comp Cams 4x4 Extreme cam, stock internals, 1" spacer, 2 1/4" dual exhaust with turbo mufflers, stock exits.
-- TH350 with a NP208 transfer case (came out of 85 truck, but wasn't original.lol)
-- 3.08 12 bolt front and rear (out of same 85 Chevy)
-- Non A/C, AM radio (never worked), originally was a red/orange 4spd truck built in Fremont, painted VW Reflux Silver Metallic in 2009, but faded within 2 years. Wanting to do some digging around to see the trucks history.
-- Was my very first vehicle in 2009 in Colorado, met my wife in 2013 with it, sat for 3 years after we moved to Florida, went back up to Colorado and drove it all the way back to Florida in 2017, has been our daily driver since. Lot of plans for it.

Here is my most recent picture of Silver
