The latest shot of my '55, done yesterday.

Lots and lots of work yet to be done but at least she's driveable, reliable albeit up on her tippy toes and it takes King Kong arms to steer it.

No shame in that Dan. You've earned the internet pix you post with the hard work you've done so far. Nice truck. Nice job.

53chevyforever, what wheels are those? I have a matte black truck that I'm thinking about going with a charcoal or black center wheel, but since I don't have much chrome (black bumpers, etc) I definitely want some flash. Thanks

Well, on the chassis itself I used 2 coats of epoxy primer and 2 coats of chassis black. All from autozone. Don't have the part numbers sorry. Money got tight so I am doing the suspension with rustolem products (rusty metal primer and Rustoleum Professional Black) using a HVLP gun from Harbor Fail.

The prep took me several days, but I was too cheap to have it sandblasted. Took it down to bare metal with knotted wire cups on a 4 inch grinder. Kept soaking it down with WD40 just to see if it would help break up the surface rust. It seemed to help quite a bit (wear coveralls, it gets you really messy) plus kept the dust down. The only place I couldn't get to with the knotted wire cups was around the rear cross member on the inside of the frame. I used some rust converter there, not sure of the brand.

It shined up nice but it took me a total of about 20 hours. I bathed it in laquer thinner before priming.

I'm sure sandblasting would have netted me better longer lasting results but I’m working with a tight budget.
