Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
I read back through my own build on this truck and it's odd to me how it all panned out. Almost a year ago I said (I should have my wheels by Mid-May) .. and I still don't have them. They should be on it, well .. Mid-May. :D
No regrets though. My plans kinda changed yes, but I'm glad I went ahead and did what I really wanted. I can enjoy it for a month or so then just let er go. It will be for sale on the HRPT, and for whatever reason it doesn't sell I'll put it on eBay. Dad and I are going to run the brake lines on Sat, and hopefully knock the inner bedsides down and prime. They're really pretty straight so it shouldn't take long to get them painted. (famous last words?) .. but then it's just finishing up the bed assembly and interior. I need to put the door panels on and detail around the lower parts of the doors where boots have just kicked the door open over the years and stuff. I need to get some nice black arm rests for it, a carpeted cover for the tank and maybe some new door handles and misc on the inside and it's done. Then it's just waiting on wheels.. Once this one goes, my stepper is going to become a fleetside and layed out. Stay tuned to that one. :D |
Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
oh we will stay tuned ...don't worry ! LOL

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
 I knew you would think about laying out the stepper. Very good choice changing it over to a fleet and laying it out. I should have my dropmembers very soon so I can finally get mine layed out.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
Working on my bedsides today, Im going to need a stake pocket repair patch panel. The lower edge about 3/4" up is not going to be salvageable to my tastes.
Where can I buy that.. ? Pass side rear corner. Thanks Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
Most any vender should have that patch panel.
|
Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
... not having a lot of luck finding that piece. I need the Right side (Pass) rear stake pocket patch, right where it meets the bed floor about 3-4 in up. Anyone know who might have them? Classic, Brothers, etc.. not finding them..
|
Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
Chad you may have to cut one out of a bed at the scrap yard.
|
Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
it might be easier to just make a patch out of some sheet metal. haven't taken one out so I'm not sure how difficult it would be to make though.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
Yep, Ill prob have to make one. My brother in law has a giant metal brake so I may just bend one up.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
That was going to be my suggestion, probably better off making it yourself.

Heres the bedside I mentioned a few posts up. .. and my plans to fix it. I have an exact copy of what you see in the blue / red being bent now to factory GM specs. ( A local fab place called S&H Erectors is making it for us.) They have the correct metal brake to make that 'pressed bend' look. The stake pocket is bent in such a way a normal 45 deg bend just doesn't look right. The red lines are cuts, blue lines are bends. I made the yellow piece and it's ready to tack back in place. Hopefully we'll have the other piece ready to finish weld in a couple days.
Dad made up a cardboard template of what you see here, realizing that back piece doesn't come all the way up.. I just want it to be a touch long so I can cut it perfectly / fine tune it using the old piece I cut out. Hopefully you'll never know it has been replaced :D |
