Today, I took another look at the rear fender that I painted yesterday. Just didn't like it that much. So I started sanding it back down for a another shot at it. Maybe tomorrow I will shoot it again.

Tomorrow I will shot the color on the fender. I hope that nothing goes wrong with it this time. Last time the door flew open and in came some of Florida's sand. Wasn't to bad but I just didn't like it.
I know I said that the other day was the last work day untill the Hoildays were over, but what the hay I love to work on the old girl.

Last Tuesday I recieved my th400 fly wheel cover. So, today I painted and installed it.

Then I repainted the rear fender it came out real nice.

That took about 4 hours doing the flywheel cover and fender. So, I started putting my bed back together. Here I uses some putty to attach the fender to the bed wall. Maybe it want creak and chip the paint going down the road.

In a few days maybe I can install the other fender on the bed also. The bed is not mounted on the truck just setting in place.

Today, I mounted the drivers side rear fender and the step for the bed. Now I am waiting till after the new year to paint the cab and the front clip.
I put some putty on this side as well.

As you can see it is only setting on the truck rails. I just needed a place to put it while I was attaching the fender and steps. Now I can measure the 5 inch floor lift. 1''x1'' square tubing for the bed wood. I am goig to buy me a 12'' wood plane to plane my own wood for the floor. I have every other tool that I need to do this job.

Today I had a friend and my son over and they helped me lift the bed off the truck.

Tomorrow, I am going to light sand the cab and front clip. Then I will shoot the 2K primer on the sanded portion of the truck. I hope to shoot some orange in a couple of weeks. Then the truck will start to show some progress. I have been working on this build going on two years. My wife just can't understand why I put so much into this truck. She said I could have had a almost new truck in the amount of time and money I spent on this 68. All she does now is put her blinders on when she looks at the truck. Well one day she might even accept the truck. Only time will tell.

Today, I sanded the cab and front clip and shoot some 2K primer on. Now I can let it set untill I need to shoot the color.
I removed the doors so I could sand and prime the doors easier. I can also shoot some color on the doors in my shop. I will be ahead of the game this way.

Today, I had some parts t come in.
Chrome alt with wire lead from the battery. This I got from another board member gearboxgarage
I was going to use the alt I got from Advance auto parts but this one came up and well there way I could have passed this up.

We finally got a Harbor Freight in Crystall river. So now I can get the things I need without going 80 miles away.
I picked up some three sizes of wire lums 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 black
a large pack of 7'' ties
a large pack of heat shrink tubing several colors

also went to a welding shop and ordered some 18 gage metal and had it breaked so I can finish my hood. I started the hood last summer. So I guess it is about time I finish it.

It was 30 this morning and didn't get over 50 all day. To cold to work. I did get the rubber seals for both doors ordered from another board member. Done some swaping and ended up with a set.
Got to get more paint for the sheet metal.

Today I recieved the manual transmission delete plug. Now I can get rid of that hole I forgot to weld up. I also picked up some new carriage bolts for the bed. I didn't like the hex head bolts I put in the bed walls.

I had to take a three sided file and make a square hole. Instead of the round hole that was in the side walls of the bed to recieve the carriage bolt.

I did one side, so tomorrow I will tackle the other side. Now it gives it a smother look.

Trucks looking good George! I can relate to your wifes comments, I heard the same things myself. Once I had my truck finished (on the road and painted) her attitude changed, she likes all the attention and compliments we get on the truck when we're out in it, in fact she'd rather ride in the 69 then the 08. All women love attention and compliments! So I'm sure your wife will be the same way. I admire your work and ethics. Take care, Dave

Today, I did the other side of the bed walls with cariage bolts. I was going to use the same length for the front panel. But as I installed them I noticed that they were a little to close to the back of the cab. So, tomorrow I will go the Ace hardware and get some 3/4 inch long. I hope to get some 1''x1'' square tubibng next time I go to the welding shop. Then I can start building my raise floor 4 1/2''. I like the way it looked in a article that I read some time ago.
