This 'N That
I've been on the road , three State Road Trip , Pops Memorial .
It snowed in Bellingham , Wa. and rained most of the way back to l.A. , I was surely wishing my '69 C/10 was under my butt instead of that old Mercedes S Klasse Sedan . oh well , soon enough I hope :waah: . The power brake booster thing : it's a HUGE improvement and cheap to do ~ unless you're towing on a regular basis , you don't need to $pend the $ on disc brakes , yes they're very cool and moderns blah blah blah but m,any here are not wealthy , just go order up a power brake booster and master cylinder for your year of truck and install it ~ you'll be amazed at how well your old drum braked rig now stops and no , drum brakes don't fade after three stops unless the brake drums are paper thin from being turned (Machined) too many times , another thing you're not supposed to do but is easy money so shops always do it and YOU suffer in the long run . New brake drums are cheap , I have no troubles finding them in junk yards , good ones . The seat heaters *must* be run through a relay because the switch contacts on the seat belts are not designed to carry that much current load and they're burn out or worse , get hot and melt things if you run the heater power through them . The C50 Pickup is bad@$$ ! . I wonder what color you're going to paint it , looks like you began with good metal , I'm in awe of your skillset . |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I agree on the disc v. drum issue. Why would GM design a vehicle that would not stop properly??? Added PB to my 68 shorty and it stops just as I'd like it to.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Did a temp primer/paint job on another rusty wheel off the truck. 2 down, 3 to go.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Used the '67 to pick up a Christmas tree! V-6 had no problems hauling it home.

Had a Great Day, had my nasty old bed media blasted, then Tim spray urethane primed it. The majority of my truck is original paint with some spray bombed areas but, as you can see from the Before and After shots, the bed was just too nasty in comparison to the rest of the truck now for my taste.:gmc2:

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Finally got around and installed a Holley Projection 2d that I picked up from Craigslist a while back. I am so glad that I did. I was getting tired of the old Rochester that had a broken choke, constantly thirsty for gas, would dies at the red light, and over all piece of #$%$#^ technology.
The installation was not that bad. I did buy a O2 sensor to make it into a close loop. Holley is definitely making a killing at the throttle brackets and all the accessories to go with the installation. Had to buy all new bracket to get the geometry right for the 700r4 cable. Video of the first start after installation below. http://vid123.photobucket.com/albums...pszyrdbwhf.mp4 |

My water pump was squeaking and I found it to be leaking as well. Grabbed hold of the fan (engine off of course) and it had a lot of play/wobble. $30.00 for a new W/P at AutoZone. Took me about 2 hours to install it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I'm not doing the "cool" stuff yet but today at least I managed to replace the old truck cover with a new one from LMC.
Man, that think fits like a glove. Am very pleased with it. sorry, no pics. |

I got rid of the old Quadrajunk & installed a new Holley Street Avenger 670cfm carburetor today. It sure runs better too. I changed out the jets from 65 primaries & 68 secondaries to 68 primaries & 72 secondaries. I did this hearing that those Street Avenger carbs run on the lean side with the factory jets.

it has front coils from a late 80's suburban with a little over one coil cut. front tires are 275/45r20, back still needs to come down 2" but I can live with a little rake for now. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3..._172832424.jpg |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Buffed and waxed all the painted cab interior surfaces on my 70 GMC. Looks great...amazing the amount of grime that builds up over 44 years.
Bolted rear frame coil spring supports and cup mount plates back on and installed rear springs. Now I can get the bed back on...next weekend. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Love this board. Yes, a cracked fly wheel sounds a lot like a rod knocking. Replacing fly wheel-found carrier bearing loose--working on that. Who knows what else I'll find before the day is over.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Pulled my hair out in frustration with my holley for the final time today. Im sorry, they must make a good product to have such a strong following but MINE is a P.O.S. sick of trying to get it to keep tuned. Ordered a Edelbrock 1404, I hear its the way to go for brain dead people like me. Anyone want a Holley??!?! (im not offering to sell it admins plz don't delete)

Set the cab on the frame for the 2td time.It was around 50 today, so spent some time on in the garage.. had to check some tranny clearances because i found out that my low hump did not work for me..[ replaced it with a high hump] I also wanted to check to see if i had room for my 9" booster and it looks like it will be OK, will have to tweek my pass side header heat sheild and add the driver side sometime this weekend but things are looking good. some of the pics dont show it but the clearance is about 5/8 of an inch on the drivers side and a strong 3/4 of an inch on the pass side from the valve covers to the firewall..:chevy:

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Wow ;
It's been too long since I checked in ~ My truck is still in the paint jail but the frame's looking mighty fine now , IK went ahead and bought all new MOOG ball joints & tie rods ends , might as well . I've also been out of state and sick as a dog and trying to get some traction on overhauling my '77 292 i6 engine . I am needing to use the crank shaft out of my '64 292 block as the flex plate bolts are larger in the '77 crank and the new flex plate I bought , can't be used on it :waah: . Anyway , if it doesn't rain to - morrow I'll run a box full of loose parts down to the shop and spend some time in the solvent tank , then go home and hopefully pull the '77 engine's cylinder head , pistons & rods m, crankshaft etc. , I want to send the rods out for rebuilding and measure the bore for the new pistons , blah blah blah , the usual boring overhaul stuff , I love it so much , I'm old & gray now but I never tire of overhauling . REALLY nice trucks and works I'm seeing here ! :metal: . |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
This is my first post and I want to say that I appreciate conversing and feeling accepted by other people who can understand why anyone would spend more time and money on a 40+ yr old truck than a late model with less miles and A/C.
Today I purchaded oil, a filter, KAT oil pan heater, and an exhaust gasket. Nothing exciting. But I can say, you know its more than a truck when you'll spend your free time in the winter changing your own oil, installing a heater to prevent cold starts while the heater in the cab has yet be be fixed. Its a mistress. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Painted and reinstalled my rear hubs took her out for a test drive to test my brake adjustment job and no problems, rear passenger tire did not lock up, couldn't make it pull under hard breaking and she stopped just like it should with no problems.
That's usually a bad omen. |
