Re: my 80 build
I kept the truck about the same height as before, thanks Larry. I got the trans pulled took me a good part of 45 minutes from pulling the truck in the shop to trans sitting on a table, but the shift kit is taking much longer though but just have a few parts left

I read earlier in the thread you planned on going back to stock height, then alittle lower than stock. Personally I think it has a 'Pro Street' look which suits the squares perfect. |
Re: my 80 build
I decided it wouldn't look any good higher than a 4-6 with the wheel and tire combo I have so kept it lowered, I got the trans back together a couple weeks ago I really haven't tested the stall yet but its really street able even with the 3600 stall, but I need to get the truck tuned soon and get some drag radials to see it get in the 12s

Re: my 80 build
I ordered some M/T e/t streets should be here in couple weeks hope they hook good

Re: my 80 build
I have Hoosier DR's on my Z car and it dead hooks off the line after a mild burnout in the waterbox. Plus they last a decent life, I've owned mine since 2008.

Re: my 80 build

Re: my 80 build
damn they dont leave you much tread till your at the wear bars.. but cant wait to see some real time slips up and maybe a video of some runs ;)

Re: my 80 build
Just enough to be street legal, but they are very sticky no more 20mph burnouts
|
Re: my 80 build
you should notice a big improvement in your 60' times now!...even my mickey s/r are pretty soft, my truck don't spin too much....plus the four link helps it "squat" and "hook up".

Re: my 80 build
finally got a real tune on my truck, I was trying get hold of the tuner for months, he finally had a little free time called me Wednesday, went to his shop after work, he started tuning it and found the black bear tuned pcm is block, luckily I have two pcms, he started tuning it found my carless self hooked up the two speed sensors back words so it though it was going 15mph at idle why I had first girl for 5 feet, got that switched, he adjusted all the perimeters, went and drove it, it was real strong till it hit about 5500 the stock 22ib injectors work as hard as they could, so he said I'll need 44ib to get to run up to 6500, so he said he new were a lightly used set was, that was on my buddies supercharged silverado, so he called several guys and finally found them, so yesterday he was cross the street from my work at the drive shaft shop so he saw my truck and he come back to drive shaft shop so he brought the bigger injectors, and tuned it so it would run the bigger injectors, so after work I put the bigger injectors in, during the day he called me saying if I get those injectors bring it by my work I'll retune it, and take it to the track so I went home and got my drag radials went a head and put them on before I left, so I headed over to his shop and he retuned and we headed to track, got there about 10, let the truck cool down for a little, I didn't even air down the drag radials they were probaly at 30 psi, first pass I did a good little burnout, did a high idle launch ran a 13.06, I did 4 other pass never could get in the 12s, the convertor is only stalling to 2,000 then it moves, I dont if i should blame the willwoods or the yank convertor, but the trucks going to be dyno tuned soon, so it should be quicker than a 12.99 for sure

Re: my 80 build
A 13 sec quarter mile time for a street/daily driver square is hauling the mail no matter what, especially since our trucks are about as aerodynamic as a flying brick.
If you want to find out where the converter is stalling/flashing, go see your tuner buddy again and take a drive. While cruising about 25 mph, have him 'hold' the trans in 3rd gear with the tuning software then stomp the gas for a second. Whatever your RPM was when you stomped it is your stall RPM. I am sure you mentioned it somewhere in the past 38 pages, but what rear gears are you running? Have you weighed the truck since completing the swap? Gear ratios are often overlooked when it comes to converter stall. Weight is also a factor. The heavier the car/truck, the higher the converter will stall vs the same converter in a lighter car/truck. Same goes with gearing, the lower the gear (higher number) the lower the converter will stall due to load. A good example is a buddy with a '70's Camaro, has a warmed over 383. Bought a 3,000 stall converter and it would flash to 3,500 with 3.55 gears. Later he swapped to 4.56's and now the converter barely flashes to 2500-2700. |
Re: my 80 build
Aaron...are you talkin bout the sensors on the tranny?......I'm having similar trouble....my truck will go about the lengh of itself in first gear before it shifts, and no matter what I can"t manually shift it...

Re: my 80 build
Haven't been on in a while. Truck looks awesome man. Great work!

Re: my 80 build
The more i read about this truck, the more awesome it gets! if i ever go to a strip in dallas i'll have to give you a call. 13.06 is haulin! maybe higher front tire prssure, and lower rear tire pressure would get u into 12s. but the dyno tune will for sure!
|
Re: my 80 build
Thanks guys, it has 373s, John yes the two speed sensors on the trans swap them and see what you got because that sounds exactly like what mine did, the tire pressure was probably at 30 psi on all four I haven't check them in a couple weeks, I may order a adjustable proportional valve, I might be able to stall the truck up more and with the dyno tune It could run as quick as 12.8, then a 150 shot

Re: my 80 build
dude that is great news! halling ass. 13.0 is pretty damn quick. i need to get mine down there. only at 13.9 so far.. we need pics and video of the runs ! please (:
