Nothing to update right now, I had a small engine fire a month ago while I was wiring it and I stepped back and decided to take a break for a little while before I destroyed the whole truck.

Just a small 'underhood' camp fire.... not an inferno

Keith and I have been trading emails and PM's. He has had a really hectic work schedule, and has been trying hard to put some quality time in on this project. He has had several setbacks that make it questionable on him making the Goodguys show this weekend.

His effort today will determine the outcome. Stay tuned....

Yeah, it must be nice to have a "back up truck" to take to the show.

I would do such awful things for those wheels. Loved that style forever.

Your work is incredible man, keep it up!

*UPDATE*
Hazel set to debut at the Midwestern Goodguys in Kansas

I have known Keith for many years now. One thing I have discovered over those years is he has the ability to stay focused once he is on a mission. If you know him at all, that's an amazing feat considering he has a severe case of AADD (Automotive Attention Deficit Disorder).

Despite a recent under hood fire incident that was destructive, and could have been devastating, Hazel will make her maiden voyage to the Midwestern Goodguys in Kansas this weekend. According to Keith he "Still need to do a few hundred things but I think it will go in and out of the show without to many problems"

I know most of us wish we could have a running truck this nice and still have a hundred things to do. Lets take a look at his "unfinished" version of Hazel as she rolls out on her shake down run before being loaded up to leave for Kansas.

I will let Keith fill you in on the gory details of the underhood mishap. The condensed version is a short circuit ignited the blanket that was used to keep dust off of the motor. It smoldered for a while before a small fire started. He was fortunate that happened while he was at the shop, but it was still a set back that might defeat most of us. Keith stepped away for a bit, then dug right back in. The pressure was on and time was short.

Keith said "I kept a running log of the hours I put in the last three weeks on the truck and it came to 189, I also worked full time (at my real job) two of those weeks"

I will let the results of those long hours speak for themselves. His motor shows an amazing attention to detail. At first glance it appears to be a restored 327. Look a little closer and you soon discover its so much more.

This journey started a few years ago as Keith and I rolled down the road after attending a fund raiser for a fellow truck owner. As we drove along discussing the events of the day a buddy rolled past us in his bagged 68 that was cruising just a few inches off of the asphalt. We both commernted on how awesome the truck looked rolling that low.

When Keith bought Hazel months later, I asked what his plans were. He said he had several ideas but wasn't sure exactly what he would do with every aspect of the build, all he knew was it was going to be low. He couldn't get that image of Smileys 68 out of his head, and he wanted one that would ride that low or lower. Despite many set backs, life distractions, and a couple of projects in between, Hazel rolled out of the shop this week just a few inches off of the ground.

"I'm dazed and confused but it's kinda sorta done! My body started showing me who's boss this morning when I got up. I'm going to listen and try and relax a little tonight before I make myself sick."

"It felt good just looking at it outside for once. I ran out of time in the bed but at least it's sort of together...."
