I am really digging the speaker box. Make sure you dampen that thing alot. I have built a lot of speaker enclosures and mdf is the best, then fiberglass, then metal. Nothing wrong with metal except the resonance. I would dynamat then fiberglass bat the inside to slow the air waves down. I am not pro but that's my past experience.

So far it is the only name for that kind of product that I have used so far, and yes I do like it up to this point. Will have to see how it wears though. It is not as tough as you would expect it to be though. It takes some effort, but this stuff will take a scratch.
Wait till you see what else I did with it that day.....I just need to touch up that side project a tad, this stuff is not meant for detailed work I found out.

Yeah I have a large bag of stuffed toy batting I am going to spray adhesive in there before I install the speaker. I want to be sure I get all my wiring set up first though.
Ummmm yeah, about the dynamat.... I got some stuff to do the whole back wall of the cab with. Then I forgot to put it on before I welded the back panel in :dohh:
In your build thread you asked if I really live in Alaska.... yes I do.
If you would like a look, bounce back to page 30 of my build, post #740 and take a peek at my Christmas video it is worth a smile !

Thank you all for your time and indulgence, I will post more this weekend, I am off the next 4 days and hope to get a lot of stuff done !! :metal:

Ok just to close the loop on the Herculiner application, and to appease the requests from work for new video, I offer up this little installment.

Just for fun, hope you enjoy it.

Jumping on here but unfortunately WAY late to read every post. Three hours "slavin for the man" this morning got me through most of it and finally here  I promise to never bit** about it being cold on my thread ever again. Love the vids and the crazy custom stuff you're doing up there and will be chiming in whenever I can.

Spotted an R32 like up on 15 or something.... yours? Property in Spokane? Is that Deadman Creek? We might be neighbors!

Thanks for stopping by Jeff !!
I need to work faster to make my 4th of July deadline, still hoping to squeeze in 30 days of vacation between now and then too, which of course chops a month out of my productivity and I still have a lot to do....

**************************************************************************************************** *********

I got a few things done so far this weekend although I have all day tomorrow off yet, but tonight is St Pattys !!! No telling what I can get done tomorrow. Should be a national day of leave for Irishfolk on the 18th of March. No one likes to go to work with a hangover.

So I filled the woofer well with the stuffed toy batting to help baffle it, after I got all my wiring that I think is going through there.
Attachment 1078004

I also got the Amp, and Capacitor mounted, which of course was part of all that wiring...But I also got the seat belts installed.
Attachment 1078005

While I had the Herculiner open last weekend I also did this little mod to my door sill plates....
Attachment 1078007
Attachment 1078008

And masked off my side steps for the same treatment !!
Attachment 1078009

Well that is all for today, only had a day and half this weekend so far out of 4 to work on this, took a day and went skiing. I feel like such a slacker... LOL

Still needing recommendations for carpet though.....

Your doing some great work! Box looks like it came that way and like the "Coulter"trim on it, he is one talented guy as well. My sister came to my house today with a gallon of bed liner and a roller and wants me to do the floor in her jeep , thought you would appreciate that.

Call me finicky, but there are somethings in life that need to be in context.
Hockey and Jazz have to be live, there is no sitting around enjoying either of those two any place other than on the spot, as it is happening.
And Guinness has to be off a tap.
It also has to be poured in a place that knows how to do it right.
If the bartender draws a clover leaf in the head of your Guinness, and that clover leaf is still there in the bottom of the glass when the beer is gone, then you know it is being done right!! Sadly it has been many years since I found a place to do it right.
But that is not to say I didnt enjoy my St Pattys !!
We had some friends over, the wife made an awesome corned beef and cabbage dinner, and we poured some of the following into ourselves !!

If you like Sam Addams, then you may want to look for the other two beers, the Anchor Steam is out of San Francisco, and the Moose Drool is from Missoula.
The Scotch is, well ..... you know.
And yes, that is still 3 feet of snow out the window !!

Thank you sir, I do try to give proper props to those whom I steal my ideas!!
Hope you have a very large garage, or can do it outside, that stuff puts off some serious fumes!

I figured those nice chrome sill plates were going to get scuffed up anyways soon after install, so ...... hopefully this will soften the ugly a little.

If you ever saw the movie "We were soldiers" I would say that when I speak I sound like CSM Plumley.... just older.
If you ever heard me speak, then your worst nightmare would probably become your new happy place by comparison.

Yesterday was a dinking around day mostly. Worked on a few odds and ends, which is what I do when waiting for paint to dry.
I never did like the "pewter gray" I got for this build.
Recently I found a "smoke gray" from Krylon that I like a lot better, so I finally bit the bullet (yes masking off my dash for paint IS just that painful to me) and I reshot my dash.

The following is the before and aftermath....
Attachment 1079314
Attachment 1079315
By comparison the ash tray door is still the pewter color, which I may leave and see if it grows on me. The glove box door is still that light color, and parts of the steering column are still in that color as well. I think when I put it all together again, the 3 colors may sway me to leave it.

That is it for now, I just need to order my sound deadner and carpet this week.

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....

the 10 year old LAPHROAIGS is quite nice, I have a bottle in my collection, have only ever had the boston lager on tap, always pass it over in the store in bottles, the anchor steam is nce, available here from time to time, never heard of the moose drool though.
Hard to tell from the pictures, and without the glove box door, but I am wondering if it is looking a little busy with all the colours... May be a whole different perspective LIVE, just wondering out loud...

Ta2Don 03-20-2013 08:32 AM

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....

Diggin' the contrasting colors on the dash. Good call on the darker grey. Switching gears for a second... On a visit to Missoula back in '05 I enjoyed Moose Drool for the first time, and in my book there's nothing better than a glass of single malt and a fine cigar. Just a heads up... Since we now have the "Coulter Trim" being acknowledged, when I get around to installing the Cowl Vent Control Cable idea stolen from you, I think they should be aptly named the "Murph Controls!":metal:
