LOL, I just sold my extra hood a while ago. I was on a clean up mode and got rid of a number of things.
I don't have to throw it away, I would just modify things if it didn't work. But it should, we will see. Unfortunately I am ahead of the game quite a bit here, I need to have the cab all primed, frame powder coated and cab bolted to the frame with the front clip on before I can do anything. So don't expect any update on this for a while.

Building a 52 3600 with a 350 and 700r4. Been meaning to get a driveshaft made but figured no hurry.

Today I pulled my daily driver in the garage to weld up some exhaust and had to pull the driveshaft out. For the heck of it I took the driveshaft out of the 90 and put it under the 52 and it's the perfect length I needed. Kinda crazy when something actually goes my way for once.

So for the 2 people in the world who needs a driveshaft for their longbed 52 3800 with a 350/700r4 and a 14 bolt chevy axle, a driveshaft out of a 90 standard can long bed pick up with a 305/700r4 will work all though the u-joint is different

Ha ha! I once spent 8 years building a perfect truck. It was too perfect to drive. So now someone else is enjoying my perfect truck, and they don't drive it either! I'll never do that again.

Nowadays when I build a truck I don't worry about impeccable paint, perfect fit, etc. In fact, I don't worry if it's already scarred, or shows scars from handling and assembly. All those imperfections show a truck's history and add character. This panel will be a daily driver; it will get parked on the street and have garden supplies loaded in the back. It will be used and it will show it. Things on the truck must be "right" but they don't need to be "perfect." Subtle but very real distinction.

But don't get me started on "faux patina." :banghead: That's an oxymoron. Character can't be faked.

I have to tell you Miraclepie I have a "perfect" car, my 65 Gran Sport, never drive it. I can't, I can't leave it outside a store while I pickup a six pack, I can't drive it to a ball game and leave it outside, it just stays in the garage. Then I have my Rambler, it had a cheapie paint job when I got it, the interior was new but really badly done. I drive it every day, park it anywhere, it's got a few chips, so what, I drive it every day and enjoy it.

Yep, I am going to have a hard time cutting it short on my truck, I would like it to be nice, and it will be but I have learned, drive it, if it gets screwed up I will fix it. Or just brush touch it like I do the Rambler and drive it.

It will NOT sit in the garage, I have had enough of that.

Agreed, drove the 928 about 10 times this year. Took photos last week to sell it, but still don’t know. Now, the 59 WILL return as a daily when finished.

Yep, I posted about this gun in the body and paint forum, it works great but I made it even better with my "Gravity Pot" adapter. :D :metal:

Got the inside of the cab primed, WHOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO!

My "gravity pot" paint gun worked like a charm to get up under the dash. :D

I was under the truck making a lost of some of the rust I would like to attend too, and I saw both my cab corners have this nifty flap screwed on both sides. Has to have been on a while, has clutch head screws holding them on.

When I take something like that off I "Feel" the guy who put them on, he was a dad earning money to pay the bills, to feed his family and pay the rent.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

once again failed to install a pulley. a simple pulley!! this will be week number two trying to install a simple waterpump pulley. I got the correct pulley from speedway but its going to require a small spacer to get the belts lined up. I had a fan spacer but it was a little to long. using some welding rod as a strait edge I measured with the long spacer on. the pulley was off by 23/64. it was a 1inch spacer so by my math I need a 0.65 spacer to line up. im not sure what sizes fan spacers come in but im going to start my search. after some searching im not finding a .65 spacer. the closest I can find is a .5 spacer with a shim kit that nets me .68 total. it would be a lot easier to cut my 1 inch spacer down but i don't have a way to make a clean flat cut and i don't want my fan wobbling around.

Today I finished up bleeding the brakes then spent time replacing the pickup coil in the distributor. Hard to believe it stopped working after 28 years. Pulled the truck out of the barn for the first time in two years and spent three hours cleaning the exterior. Tomorrow, hopefully, I will begin the work of cleaning up the remains of the mouse tenancy.

Welllllll, I'm not a compressor expert but I think these broken flapper valves may be one of the problems with my compressor! I found them for only $25 including shipping, hope I can get them pretty fast. I sat out there tonight looking at the cab wondering what in the living hell can I do without a compressor! I have one small project, but I will do it, hopefully something else will come to me.

Of course, I can put the thing back together and use it with the one valve I guess, that's what I have been doing the last number of months.

I asked the 2nd owner (farther in law) and he has no clue. Must have been the 1st owner (wife’s grandfather). This is literally the only modification I have found on the truck.

I would have to take your word on it, I (being of a younger generation) have never seen the item before. But, you can bet I’ll preserve it and leave it equipped.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

It's not whether you have seen one, I never have either. But look how it fits, what are the odds something randomly would fit there, or if someone made it to go there, why?

Then look at how it's condition is exactly the same as the cab in that area, so it has aged and been exposed exactly the same, that means it was on there from the birth of the cab.

The clutch heads, NO-ONE reused those clutch heads, they were tossed and phillips or a bolt or something was put there, NO-ONE reused those clutch heads.

Those suckers were installed at the factory.

Hey Mikebte,

Those are gravel deflectors. They were available from the factory or as a dealer add-on. I bought a set but never used them. The installation instructions can be found on page 567 of the factory assembly manual.
