also something weird happens every time I start the truck now... the wipers come on on their own... but only at start and once I turn them on and off they stay off  will check it later

That's the new clear view option. Makes sure your windshield is clear so you can cruise safely.

Would love to see the few pics you have. Start up a thread for it! :metal:

Good looking truck! 4 pictures or not, you have done a lot of work on the truck. I think it is worthy of its own build thread. Heck, if the guys are telling me to start one you sure can too. ;)

These tuned LS swaps are making more power than the stock 4L60E can handle without being upgraded. It was marginal in stock form.

There are lots of failure points at about 340 hp in the 4L60E with Camaro's that need addressed for it to live and in a truck they probably happen sooner due to the extra weight.

Yea GM didnt really think this through real well putting a 4l605 4l65e and 4l70e with any 6.0s Ive already went through one 4l70e in my trailblazer at 30k miles. the best thing you can do is just put a trans cooler and pray you dont boil the trans fluid. 4l80e seems to be pretty stout

We had to have a new transmission in our '05 CCSB Z71 @ 30k miles.

I didn't need to hear that. Mine just rolled over 31K.

Me?? Pfffft, never! Post away. The truck looks sweet too! I've been a busy boy lately.

I guess I am the only one to have ever beat on a 4L60E and had it survive. My 03 ECSB 2wd had a 5.3L with a Whipple supercharger and a 4L60E. I put tens of thousands of miles on it, and I wasn't easy on it either. The truck made probably a dozen trips to our property in the Black Hills in South Dakota pulling our loaded 21' travel trailer, and under boost most of the way too! I know of a few trucks on performancetrucks.net that are making over 400 rwhp through the stock 60E. I suppose it's all in how you take care of it. For everyone that knows of someone that can blow up a stock one with a stock engine, I seem to know of someone that hammers the crap out of theirs and they are still ticking. Hmm, oh well. I have no complaints with mine, or any of the others that I have had (4 that I can think of), and will keep just pounding on them.

On another note.... I had a thought on the temp sensors. I think instead of drilling the passenger head, I think I will just lengthen the wires for the sensor on the drivers head and move it to the pass head. Then I will have tons of room and visibility to be able to drill and tap the drivers head and move the gauge sender there.

As for the rear suspension swap, I have no idea when I will do that. I'm getting the brakes done tomorrow, that's in March's budget. Then next month I will finish up the A/C system, that's in April's budget. It's reaching the 50's here, it's gonna be getting HOT here real soon!! :haha: I still have a few parts to order for the rear suspension, and I need to order the parts to make the pan hard bar. So that will go in the budget for sometime after April probably.

Otherwise, we are putting major cash away now for our Disney trip next year, and we are sending my parents on an Alaskan cruise for their 50th anniversary, and I am planning on buying a new (to me) truck by next fall. So once the brakes and A/C is done, I'll probably do the rear suspension sometime in the late summer or maybe even fall. Otherwise, he is going to be plain ol' Fred until sometime late next year. Then I'll have to drag Gerald over to help me swap the oil pan and put some new color on him. :D

That Gerald guy is gonna have some free weekends again real soon and should have some parts coming for that motor too. Then swap-a-roonie!!! 355 power baby!

Hey Gerald, check out this color. It's a Mercedes-Benz color, Bordeaux Red Metallic. One of my welders here just bought a 99 M-B E320 that is that color, and it looks sweet!

This isn't his car, but this is the color:

Very nice looking color. Still tossing around ideas for a 2-tone too?

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

It's still in the back of my mind, but in the end I'm thinking it will probably be just one color.

Driveway Dreams 03-03-2010 10:55 AM

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

Well that Benz color is pretty close to what I thought you wanted to do. I just was thinking a little darker.

There are several very similar colors from the 60's & early 70's that Chevy had.

My 66 El Camino code N was Madeira Maroon and it was identical to that M-B color.

http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorli...rolet-pg01.jpg

My 70 Chevelle code 78 was Black Cherry and it was just a little darker than that.

http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorli...rolet-pg01.jpg

It is not as dark as the chip shows. Might be worth a look for you if you wanted it a little darker plus it would be a GM color on there too.

glock35ipsc 03-03-2010 12:53 PM

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

I'd like to see that black cherry on something. Now that you mention it, my buddy that is doing my brakes right now has his Harley painted a black cherry color. I'll have to take a closer look at it when I go pick up the truck.

Thanks for the links!

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

Holy crap I my brain is numb. I've read every post in this thread and even clicked on a couple of links in two days.

I have an '86 lwd 2wd that currently has a tired carbed 305 and a tired th350 trans.

I am heading to Dallas tomorrow to pick up a 25,000 6.0 from a totalled 2005 3500.
I am getting everything dbw, computer, complete harness all accesories, manifolds, y pipe, everything.

A local trans is rebuilding my th350 to handle the 6.0 for $200.00 and some change. Thank you Bob and "Fred" for your inspiration. Should be a pretty straight forward swap.

My biggest concern right now is motor mounts. What should I go with so I can just bolt the 6.0 to the trans in it's stock location.

Sure I have left something out but again, thank you.

Glock,

You may want to check this tread. He tried to use a stock 67-72 crossmember and it hit the cab floor....

Awesome to hear! You will love that 6.0! Use the same adapter plates that I used, the ones that have the upper ear that point forward, along with the stock 350 clam shells and you will be within 1/8" at the bellhousing. I can't remember if we threw out the part number in here or not, but you will need a crank/flex plate adapter. It's available from GM and is only around $30 or so. Find any post made by Thealien and check his LS info link in his sig, I am certain he will have it listed in there.

Where did you get your motor mounts.

Adapter plates here:

http://carshop.carshopinc.com/produc...id/74328/LS1GM

For the crank/flexplate, you can do an complete crank adapter and new flexplate kit:

http://advanceadapters.com/product/3741/712500A.html

Or just the adapter:

www.gmpartsdirect.com Search part number 12563532.

THAT'S the adapter plates I was originally looking for!!! He is who I got mine from, definitely a much better price. I guess it's been so long since I've used eBay, my searching skills are slipping. Thanks Thealien!

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

Well, Fred finally got new brakes on Wednesday. New shoes and pads, new drums, turned the rotors, and new front bearings and seals. Stops on a dime now, and I don't have that loud howl as I come to a stop. The rear drums had been machined waaaay beyond spec!! And the rotors were warped, so it tried to shake me to death on hard stops.

I'm taking a couple friends to the last regular season hockey game here next Saturday, so I will be taking my wife's Trailblazer, and she is going to drive Fred to work that night. I told her no more than 3 burnouts are allowed! :haha:

Nope, I think I may have watched 1... maybe 2 Avs games ever. This is the Colorado Eagles, our CHL team here in town. My parents, my brother and sis-in-law, and my wife and I all go in together for season tickets. We've had them since the team was first organized.
