For those of us not in the know, what is a smooth top? I assume the stock top is "not smooth"? :) |
Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy
yes most of the factory tops were textured, very few were actually smooth, this smooth top will be painted body color instead of the textured white

Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy
i think there was a guy on here that made his own chevy bowtie by plasmacutting it out of a thick piece of metal grinding it smooth and use inside and the outside to press the shapen in sheetetal using a hydraulic press
you could allso look intoo hydroforming , that uses a pressure washer works the same way but you need two extra pieces of thick metal and the outside of the cutout and you prolly need to do it outside as water will flow out the mould to get the sharper edges you stack it bottom plate where the waterjet fits intoo then sheetmetal , then the cutout then the topplate put bolts all trough them and aply waterpressure |

Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy
the older style are getting expensive
the square boxes are eazier to find and cheaper to buy inspire the owners and they may shell out to have theirs customized take a look intoo the dually crowd too , there usually people with deep pockets their problem with the trucks they drive is that they need to widen and stretch their rearfenders to fit the truckwheels they mount in them http://i773.photobucket.com/albums/y...ps3fd35b15.jpg they often need to go intoo the cab in the front too and mount trailerfenders to get the truck to lay frame |
Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy

well here is last night progress, worked a little more on the raised rear floor panel and worked on the drivers side rear panel (still needs more trimming around the edges for padding and material)
