Let the frame mods and cleaning begin… Soon anyways...:mm:
Started out just after 7am…;) Was able to get the time, and the son ready to roll early… After filling the petrol tank and our bellies with McD's Breakfast Biscuits, JoJo crashed on Jeremy for a good portion of the ride... After a couple of hours we were in Strawberry Arkansaw visiting with Donnie, AKA Dwcardfan...:metal: With the help of his tractor, we loaded the frame, checked out his build, scored a driver's side stepside fender sans spare cutout, and gave JoJo a chance to sniff around Donnie's farm… :bann: We also got to check out his Camaro, but I forgot to get any pics of that sweet ride...:banghead: Here are some pics of today's trip... |

Here are a few more pics...:uhmk:
I also scored a 305 and 5speed out of a 95 Silverado for 300 bones… the motor is going in the Dodge Ratrod project…;) Picked it up on the way home from picking up the frame… …and here is a pic of the fender from Donnie...:metal: |

Gotta get the frame ready to clean and paint… which involves pulling the front crossmember and rear end… gonna transplant the 85 crossmember and sway bar and power steering box from my frame, since I have my 12 bolt axles modified to 5 lug, I'm going to roll with it flipped on top of the leaf springs… which in turn involves a C Notch… :metal: I gots to get busy…;) Thankfully this August appears to be starting off cooler than usual...:bann: |
Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Was great to get caught up on you build and new project. Nice haul on the frame, motor and trans. Smiled when I saw the nail welds, wasn't that long ago we were just beginner sparkers:devil:
Hope the rod project goes smoothly for you! Not much time left on that counter. See you next week. |

Small update this weekend...:mm:
Helped the boy move out yesterday, he and his fiancé moved into a house about 45 minutes south of here...:uhmk: Today I started in on the cab… got the back sanded and into primer… Here's a photo of the sanding in process… In the midst of sanding I had a call from Jeff, aka Da_Bears_da1 :metal: He is down for a visit with his Dad and picked up a 62' C20 Camper… If I remember correctly he is the 3rd owner, and it is solid, 32000 original miles, 283… a True Survivor...:bann: Then a couple of pics of the back in primer... |

One giant step forward.

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Impressive stuff Don.
What sort of power does a 305 push out?? First Thursday of the month tomorrow so my truck will be headed for Chatham again. Delivering some wood paneling to Nicola's dads place. |
Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
That has to be the second worst area I've ever sanded - the back of the cab. I think the only thing more difficult is the interior. The are so many different shaped curved areas with stamped details just about everything has to be done by hand! Nice to see that in primer!

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
It looks good in primer.!
