I just can't stand to be idle, it is to bad that my gas tank is some where but here. Now it liiok like the 17th. I did paint the tailgate today. omorrow I am planning on installing a longet bolt on the rubber motor mounts. I am afraid of the distance between the header and the perch. only about 1/2 inches. Then I will add some washers or a spacer on each side to bring up the motor. Just a little insurance if the mounts give any.

Re: 1968
Gate looks really good.
You've whirled that paint gun enough you ought to paint the whole truck yourself. Great job:metal: |

Re: 1968
Grandson doesn't look painted to me.
Did you do a search on the gas tank thing? With the scores of folks that have done this same type of thing, I'd think that info would be out there somewhere. |
Re: 1968
No I have not done a serch on the sending unit. But thanks I will try that.Someone said that both o-rings go on. Still looking maybe someone has done it here

Re: 1968
Hey, George! Paint work looks good. I should have asked you to paint that tailgate! Haha. When I put my new gas tank in, it only had the o-ring with the little tab on it, but my tank was the metal one. What company sells that tank? Also, what did you decide to do about a power steering pump?

I don't know who sold the tank. I bought it from a guy that changed his mind. About using it I guess. |
Re: 1968
Work looks great, George! Keep it up!

Re: 1968
Real nice work George from a fellow "Old guy". We can show those youngsters a thing or two anytime ! I am hip deep in my 72 short stepside project and definetly like to "do it all myself" like you. Best of luck finishing up your truck !

Re: 1968
Just plug the extra. As long as you have 1 vent, it's ok. Also, does that metal ring that the sending unit ring snaps under come off? If so, one of those rings (the smooth one) might go there.

Re: 1968
I didn't do anything on my truck today. Just took it easy and trying to get motivated a little. To hot here to work.
But, I guess I did do something. I made a deal with a fellow board member on a black dash pad and a set of black arm rest. They look real sweet |
Re: 1968
I had to take it easy today. My blood sugar dropped to 38. That is way too low.I was seeing black spots and my vision was fuzzy. So now I am down untill I get it up to at least 100. Maybe tomorrow I can do something. I need to run my gas lines and finish my brakes lines.

Re: 1968
Hope you feel better, George.

Re: 1968
Today I over sleep due to my sugar count. It is coming up. But on a lighter note. My drive shaft came in today. I pulled all three u joints off and I will sand blast the shaft after it cools off a bit. around 6.oo. I have to change the yoke on the transmission side. It seems that 72 has smaller yoke than the 68. And 1 1/2 inch shorter. But it will still work. I now need to figure out the center carrier bearing support for the drive shaft. My 68 did not have it. If anyone has a 2 piece drive shaft could you take a picture of the cross member. So I will know where and how to make one.
|
Re: 1968
I sand blasted the two piece drive shaft, primed and painted the first coat of gloss black. It came out rea nice. Now I need to get three u-joints to put it back together. I need a lot on motivation. Not getting much done it seems like.

Re: 1968
Post 171 in my build thread has a pic of the cross member with the 2 piece drive shaft still installed. That one has the larger midship bearing that mounts to the bottom of the cross member.
