I'm not as young as I use to be, took me 3-1/2 hours to change out a leaking power steering pump. Glad that's over with.

Been busy, over the past 4-5 days. Driving down the street the oil psi gauge sprung a leak and shot hot oil all over my legs and hands. The PO had over torqued the fitting and ruined it so I had to replace the gauge. I installed this triple setup instead. Still fresh back from the powdercoater I finished up installing the grill, park lights, rear, and backup light bezels. Yes…………. those are step side back up lights. Still had troubles with the front turn signals so I scored a headlight switch and a pair of fleetside backup light sockets and glass lenses from the junk yard. Got all the electrical issues fixed and in working order. Also added a jumper wire so my front parklights are now running lights as well as turn signals. SWEET!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I taped up, prepped and spray painted the outside frame around the vent window glass on the driver side... and painted the exterior side of the vent window assembly as well.
Tomorrow, the fun part... putting it back together. aggh. -W |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Fabricated a panel to fit between the splash pans for mounting backup lights next to the license plate. Tuesday I’ll take it to the local sheet metal shop and have them fold the edges in a brake.
I think it might actually look better than having the tank show from the rear as seen here: http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/9310/tankhn.jpg Here’s the panel with and without the lamps: http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/2124/pan01.jpg http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/6200/pan02.jpg And here is where the lights will reside once the panel is completed: http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/9873/bu01n.jpg |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Man, I like that idea MB. Thanks for sharing. I have been trying to think of a good way to mount backups without cutting holes in the bed sides.

I`m going to have to cut the exhaust as they run over the axle inbetwen the panhard bar bracket and frame, I `m like a quarter of an inch from the exhaust now that is lower, any body trim rubber their stops in the rear, that might have to be done as well.

I yanked out the Moon tach (first picture) and put in 'ol faithful: Sun Super II (the rest of the pics). Not sure why I love these old tachs so much, but probably because they are what I had in my cars and trucks when a "bit" younger. Found this Sun Super at the Pomona Swap Meet (an AWEsome swap meet) several years ago - finally found a home for it. The Moon Unit (isn't that one of the Zappa's?) was nice but it wasn't my favorite, it came with the truck when I bought it - it IS nice, but it's one of those new tachs made to look old - like a mid-sixties chevy, etc. Hmmm - wait, that's what I have -but I still like the Sun Super II, the old ones that came out before the "Sunpro days". That's kinda like when AMF bought out Harley Davidson back in the 70's.... Maybe Sun Super Tach will come back too(?) I added quick disconnects in the wiring too so I can pull it if needed to work on other stuff. Maybe I'll set the redline at 7K just to make myself feel good.
Alright, not a BIG accomplishment, but makin it my own. This was much, much cheaper than the stock tach conversion from LMC(!) Maybe someday... |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Jocko all your little zingers (like "moon unit") make for interesting reading. I get it, and can't help but wonder how many other members don't.
Depending on the "theme" you're after with your truck, the Super Tach II is spot on. Back in "the day" the first thing a guy did was buy a tach. And how many of you knew somebody that would dissasemble their dash and spend the extra money to put in a factory tach.... anybody.... know anybody that did that? I didn't back then. But nowadays it seems to be the norm. Too each their own. Kind of like stock wheels. The second thing we did was put on a set of mags... Makes you wonder what happened to all those OEM factory parts that were hardly worth scrap iron prices back in the day. I do like stockers, don't get me wrong. But expressing your talents, your preferences and even your ecentric nature by changing things up gives us all more variety. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I dug my 64's bedside panels out of storage yesterday. Today i stripped the old paint, primer, and bondo off of the right side panel. It looks like i have a little more metal work to do than i thought.
