Well worth the time and money. Hour and a half and it was free off an old parts truck. I'm sure it would be better if I had new rubber.

Skip the 'new' rubber & go w/poly. Energy Suspension makes various sizes in black. Some are fluted w/a zerk fitting in the bracket so they can easily be serviced when lubing the other front end parts.

Daverod.....I just noticed that you used the pancaked x-member that you made. Did your engine stands sit ok or were they modified too??

Re: Daverods project 66

I haven't gotton that far. My engines not in my 66. Do you think I'll have to mess with the engine mounts? I don't know if I'm going to use it or not. I'm thinking a DM might save me a lot of problems. But this is cheap and done.

Re: Daverods project 66

That part of the crossmember remains in the original location. So the engine stands will work without modificaton.

How much play is in the new chinese distributor shaft? how much does the timing change at total advance? at rpm?
Bummer about the carb troubles, I Hate walking!!

protrash64 03-13-2010 01:19 PM

Re: Daverods project 66

If you get it too far advanced it will start heating up the exhaust. I did that on a 350 a long time ago and it melted all the plug wires; realized I had full advance all the time.

I hate walking too. Thats why I have a horse. He never breaks down. My timing gun is'nt very good so I can tell how much it advances. Right now I have it set at the last notch on the scale, runs good. Is snowed today so I did'nt get to take it out. I wanted to see what the changing the vac to full vac did. I bet its better.

Beat out this nasty dent in my bedside. A few months ago I would have told you it could'nt be done. I just beat on it a little every day. Almost done. ;) How much room do I need for front bags? Do I have to mod. my stock arms or will they fit in there. I've seen people mod. them just want to make sure I have too.;) Broke down and ordered a new fuel tank sender. Almost bought another 66. Guy wanted 400 it was a rust bucket had good sides though. Wanted to make a speedcult rat truck out of it. Still might buy it. I'd have to hide it from the old lady though.:lol: Pretty sure I have to do somthing like the lastr two pictures to get my air bags in there. I just need to know how deep to make the pockets?

protrash64 03-16-2010 08:27 PM

Re: Daverods project 66

Room for your bags depends on the type. I'm assuming you mean diameter. I used the Slam bags re7 + re8 because they do not expand as they collapse. My front bags sit on a cup that I removed 3/8's of an inch. I would assume again that they would have to be modded somehow to allow for the diameter of the bag.

Lots of people running the dom 2600 and the slam RE7's say they can get away with a 8" cup.

I'm liking this inner fender ides. I don't know what your going to do about running 48" Paul. Maybe just 48" in the rear and 20's up front.;) What are you thinking about your inner fenders?

ruffrida2005 03-16-2010 11:10 PM

Re: Daverods project 66

Dude just buy the bags and build your own cups. I'm not going to run inner fenders for awhile, but I've thought about doing that same Idea and sheetmetaling it in.

I put it on the flat part where the u bolts hold the u joint on then just added 90 degrees and went from there. Mines just tacked untill I get my engine and trans in. Then I'll do it for real. Link works now.http://www.carcraft.com/howto/91758/index.html

Re: Daverods project 66

Great score on the Bags Dave. I can get Contitech's for the same price , but they don't have as good features. The internal bump stops are important if you want to show off and blow sparks while your driving.

ruffrida2005 03-17-2010 09:15 PM

Re: Daverods project 66

The Doms dont have bump stops in them. The Slams do.
