The Boss took our 2 younguns on a trip for the weekend- so I had some shop time. Finally installed the Pertronix unit I bought a year or so ago. Had to look up the directions to make sure I got the right paper in the box- positive ground still mixes me up..
Also, pulled my “new” 9’ box off the parts chassis I just got. Pulled the fenders off and hit that area with a flap wheel. I’d like to congratulate whoever’s grandpa learned how to gas weld the fenders to the running boards.. Let me tell you- nine feet is a lot of box. She’s a loooong dog. |
Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
So the next thing I have to do, regardless of the compressor, I need to remove my work bench at the front of the garage and some shelves at the back so the truck will fit in there.
I had an old drill press that I used literally twice in the last ten years I have owned it. Then a grinder bolted to the bench that I have NEVER used. Then a paint shaker that I used once in a while but lived 13 in my shop never having one, so I obviously can live without it. I put a listing on Craigslist for the drill, shaker and grinder and an hour after posting it, it's all gone, wild! Brian |

Made a makeshift storage rack for my spare parts. I had a ton of parts stored in the bed in a lasagna style. So this way I can stack parts up on the upper frame and still access the stuff in my bed. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1840/...e6d7ceb9_k.jpgIMG_3797 by Andrew Bushnell, on Flickr

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
My garage has only a single car door, so one side a car can go there, but I am going to change that. I may put a door there, but at the very least I am going to clear front and rear so the chassis can go fit there.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Well, did a bunch of searching calling all over the bay area for my flapper valves and nothing. I ordered them from Jacks (somewhere back East I believe) and they are two weeks out. Soooo, I will use the compressor limping as a last resort. But I have to clear out that side of the garage to get this thing in there anyway, I am going to keep going on that tonight. I can't believe I got rid of the drill press and stuff in an hour, I can't believe that!

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
got my cut down spacer. I don't know if it was my math or the cut but its still a little long. he took it back to clean it up a little. its a lot closer.

Today I got my trans cooler installed and plumbed. I put it under the front splash apron at the bottom of the radiator and routed the hoses inside the frame rail. Just used rubber hose, no hard line, but secured it well against vibration so it should last as long as I have a drivers license.
Then I installed my defroster ducts and headlight buckets. |
Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Rubber line? How did you secure the lines to the fittings?

I started on my re-arranging my garage so I can eliminate the bench (or move it outside) and I need to get some parts storage out of the "cupboard" at the back of the garage to hold my tools I am pulling out of the bench. Anyway, I am going to put some parts up in the "attic" and I made my "door" to the attic open properly by putting hinges and a latch on it! It was in three pieces held together by the plastic sheeting. LOL The three pieces were held with one screw on each one, you can imagine how hard this was to open. So now it's easy peasy and I can put some stuff up there with normal access. I also went to the hardware store and got the screws to hold the transmission tunnel in. Screwing that to the floor got me damn excited! Brian |

So guys, what is with the holes in the transmission cover? The sides have a nice counter sunk (don't know the right name) for a flat head screw, perfect. The front three have a large round hole that isn't countersunk but the "nut" in the firewall is exactly the same as the others for a #12 sheetmetal screw.
What is up, what kinda screw went there? Brian |

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Thanks, I just put the same screws as the side and I guess I will leave it at that too. Yeah, the center hole, WTH?

Well I haven't posted for a week, but I have been working on the truck... got the shifter installed in the center console, and got the cab rolled on it's back so I can rubberize undercoat it then paint it and clear coat it...
|
Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Good job, I have been thinking about grabbing a mattress (unfortunately often found on the sidewalks) to roll the cab back on.
I busted my butt for a few hours out there cleaning up to put away stuff and sell stuff too (tools mostly). My God the stuff I have that I haven't touched in 20 years, geeez. It's all good, I can sell them and buy stuff for the truck. Brian |

I exhausted myself figuring out the Rubik's Cube of headlight bezel clips so I sat back and admired my truck (excuse the door and hood ajar). I've been working on it for a year now. Mostly just gauges, accessories, wiring and interior left to go.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Yep, that is how the clips go I believe. Check this out, I have a pair of NOS ones for my truck. Been collecting NOS parts over the years, I have some stuff that would blow your mind.

I spent the day cleaning and painting my front bumper brackets, then did a trial fit of the bumper and splash apron. Tomorrow I'll permanently install them. I love the "cow-catcher" look, but I have adjustability to raise the bumper about another inch if measurements determine that scrub line is an issue.

Today I permanently mounted the front bumper - meaning I can no longer get a jack under the front for the foreseeable future!
By pushing up or down on the bumper before tightening the mounting bolts, one can adjust the height. I set mine for about 5/8-inch of scrub line clearance: |
Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Well I got my tube chassis for mine.

Picked up a bunch of finished parts from paint, I had to install the emblem on the tail gate to see how the chrome looked with the color. It'll work...

You guys are pissing me off now, JERKS! Posting all these photos of you getting your trucks painted and put together with lights and crap, JERKS!:sumo:
I got this beautiful bench cleared off....so I can cut it all up throwing away the majority of it. :( But, I have to do it and it will move my truck ahead, so the hell with that bench. It blows me away is the parts I find that I don't remember I had! This is what happens when you have a project going for 20+ years. :drunk: I was just recently looking at the cowl vent handle mechanism planning on priming it and all that. I opened a few drawers in this little goodie holder on the bench, this friggin thing has been exactly as it is for about four years sitting four feet from where I work on the bench all the time. I open up a drawer and there is the handle and a part of the mechanism for the cowl vent all chromed! OMG Geeeeee, now I understand why I had an extra cowl vent handle brace without any parts on it, duh, geeeez. And it is BEAUTIFUL chrome, holy crap it's like friggin artist perfection! There is also a little trim piece from the side cowl vent that I am not even using, hope I can find someone who would like it. If any of you want it, let me know, it's free. It's crazy, I was going to buy a knob for that cowl vent, I don't see that I have one, but damn I have to wait, if I buy it sure as poop stinks I will find one in one of these boxes. Anyway, tomorrow I modify this bench and move on. Brian |
