Electric Truck Update

I think I need a friggen list to remember where I left off and what WE need to do moving forward, this is not in any order:
  • 1. get one of the iBooster brake system to work finally (I now own three of 'em)
  • 2. reassembly the Prius steering assist (I got this working but ripped it all apart to get to work on the brakes see #1 above)
  • 3. hire a specialist (as you call them across the pond) to install a windshield [ahem] windscreen?
  • 4. drop off the Smurf bucket seats at an upholsterer to cover them in some black cow skin
  • 5. Plumb the Inverter, Gear box, (and charger and DC/DC converter, depending on which ones I decide to go with)
  • 7. Wiretize all the low voltage wiring
  • 8. Wiretize all the high voltage orange wiring
  • 9. Install an aftermarket B&M floor shifter, that's been sitting on my garage shelf collecting dust
  • 10. Install some digital gauges (I am having our good forum friend Artur fandangle for me)

I think that plus a million small things and a dozen things I forgot should do it

I am looking forward to your electric truck updates. Missed seeing them but I knew you would be back sometime so I just waited and waited and waited. Now a teaser video. I will still wait for you.

LoL here's some sneakpeakness of my regress from today

decided to take a step back and try bleeding the brakes with a brand new manual disc/drum master cylinder to ensure we get a firm steady sturdy brake pedal response, then we will regroup and maybe try the iBooster again

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

And how did that bleeding go? Got brakes?

not yet, thank you for asking, first we have to stroll together through adapter, reducer, inverter flare fitting hell

I think the OEM master cylinder runs 1/4 brake lines and my Wilwood proportioning valve wants 3/16 so I had to order some fittings accordingly, and of course NAPA closed at 5 pm on Sunday although their sign on the door says 7 pm and Oh'Really and AutoZone were completely useless

Gen 1 Chevy Volt charger and DC DC converter, keeping the Chevy GMC, Lexus, BMW, Prius, Honda, Tesla all stock for the purists

DC DC converter serves a similar role to an alternator except it takes high voltage from the big battery pack say 360 volts and reduces it to 14.5 volts or there abouts in order to charge the "12 volt" regular car battery

Why not just use a regular automotive alternator?
This would result in a lot of losses. Lets follow the power chain. We would start at the high voltage battery, feed DC power from it to our Inverter where we would change it to AC power to spin the AC electric motor, then the electric motor would have to spin the alternator using a belt, then the alternator would harness that kinetic (ie motion energy) I think again starting with AC and have to convert it to DC to feed it into our DC car battery.

Remember electricity lives in batteries in the form of DC (Direct Current not AC Alternating Current) it lives in the walls of your house as AC) yes Robert this will be on the quiz

8man 06-12-2023 11:26 AM

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

What I heard was it's going to have AC, a necessary commodity around here.

Oh, and about that quiz....

ha ha, we build Hot Rods around here sir, which means, no power windows, no power seats, NO heated seats, no friggen automatic TILT steering columns, no radios, and no AC, oh and no vanity mirrors on the visors, almost forgot that one

8man 06-12-2023 11:37 AM

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

Ahh, hard core!

No ac in 100 with 98% humidity on a road trip proves it.

here's a link to a C10 gest a new windshield

they come from early 90s GMC Sierras it's what they call the 60/40 seat the 40% being the drive seat and the rest is what I would call a mini bench offered in Smurf blue or hideous red, so both of my seats are both from the drivers side

you might find this thread helpful How to fold down 60/40 bucket seat from 90s GMC Sierra

and here's what they look like recovered in cow skin

I put that seat in the 48, as the split bench. I now remember you saying you did the two drivers seats. Interior looks good.

so I went to my favorite mum and pop metal house and got me some alumininininumnum to mount on top of the battery tray

this was from their remnants ie left over pile so I did not pick these sizes on purpose we gonna work with what we found, fortunately our battery tray be 30.5" long so these were perfect length
