Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
They really thought up some great stuff on the old trucks. It's sad to see the US automakers drop out of the heavy truck market. Growing up there were so many different trucks on the road.
Also, all the companies that ran their own fleets rather than contracting to common carriers. I miss all the fleet paint jobs. Now so many run white with some trace of the fleet colors in a stripe or other graphic. http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...9/IMG_2634.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...9/IMG_2635.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...9/IMG_2636.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...9/IMG_2637.jpg |

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
This has to be the coolest thread in a long time. I love those old Lane GMC trucks at the beginning. There's nothing like the bark of a blown Detroit. I'm assuming that's what is in them.
What diesels did the old Ford and Dodge tractors use in the 50's-70's ? Anyone remember the Bandag drag trucks from the late 70's. I used to have pics from seeing them at the state fair a long time ago |
Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
Yeah, you're talking about the drag trucks? Probably about the first ones,as far as I know. The Fords and Dodges ran an assortment of powertrains, but it wasn't uncommon fro them to run the Detroits. Maybe even safe to say mostly Detroits. The GMCs could have other power but usually were Detroits. That green Cannonball on the first page has a blown Detroit screamer. I love that truck. I got to see it roll out on a joy ride.
Here's a cool GMC. I wish it was mine: http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...040006_JPG.jpg |
