I believe your belt routing is incorrect. If that's a stock GM serpentine, which it looks like it is, the belt should go around the water pump between the crank pulley and the PS pulley, not between the alt and the PS pulley. Hope that helps!

Thanks. It sure looks like the belt was too close together near the tensioner.

Well I have some progress to show. I got the front airbags all drilled and installed. I have been waiting for 2 months for conversion drop spindles from ECE and I still havent heard from them. I had to put the 3/4 ton spindles back on so I can continue. I bought the repo inner fenders and sent them and the radiator support to the paint shop for black paint and clear. They turned out awsome. I got the master cylinder, booster and all the brackets painted and installed. I want to get as much done in the engine compartment so I dont have to work over painted fenders. I saved all my bolts and brackets in ziplock bags and labeled them. Now I havent got a clue how it goes back together. I park my 71 Cheyenne in the garage and use that as a guide. I ordered all new front end bolts so I wouldnt have to mess with the old rusty ones.

I also got the brake pedal assembly and the parking brake pedal all painted and installed. I sent out the 3 door catches, the hood hinges and the hood latch for chrome powdercoating and they came back real nice. That was $80 bucks. I got the inners all bolted up to the fenders. The gloss black is like a mirror. Got the radiator support all bolted up and the fenders installed. It took some work to get everything close. I had to trim some holes to get it close. I bought a new Goodmark cowl hood and bolted it on. A few more hours and the alignment wasnt too bad. The radiator support cushions were too high and the tops of the fenders were pinching on the doors so out they came. I had to shim about 1/2 the height of the cushions.

The pics of the engine compartment dont look as good as in person. Too bad the 16 inch wheels are back on. I twined the front airbags together so I could inflate them. If I let the air out the tires will go through the inners. We got the tailgate on and the back hatch. Loaded up the burb on the car trailer and brought it to the bodyshop for PAINT!!!!!. I was thinking ghost flames but I couldnt make up my mind and I dont want to buy bodyside trim so its going to be Vista Blue pearl with a silver roof. That should go with the grey interior I guess. Too late now so no regrets!

Just found this thread - nice dismantle and then rebuild on this thing.

I think the before/after shot when you are done will be inspirational.

Nice work!

That sure looks like a nice burb there. I thought about ghost flames. It took 4 months at the body shop but its finally painted.

Well here are some pics of some progress at the body shop. I have had plenty of time to change my mind on the paint scheme and this is where we ended. These first ones are with a cell phone.

Re: Project "Mid Life Crisis Low Rider Burb"

i would have skipped the c-notch and kept it 3/4 ton. but the body work is beautiful and so is the paint job. maybe i should have you restore my 72 burb in a few years. my truck looks like yours did (but with a lot less rust). what did you do with the tripod mirrors? i'll take them off your hands if you still have them. i need something better than sport mirrors for trailer towing (and the simple act of backing up, parallel parking, etc). you aren't too far away too. any chance you get up this way for car shows? there is a vintage truck show in barrington nh every fall and also one at owls head transportation museum in mid july as well as bonny eagle car this coming sunday (may 16th) in buxton. you will have to bring your truck up this way some time!
