Re: 73-87 prerunners.....found pics..
Quick question, on the solid axel prerunner blazer, and older 4x4s, why are the springs underslung ? I'm working on a project and wanted some info on prerunner 4x4s,and noticed this. Any help? Thanks

I have an 85 I'm building, built 350,turbo 350 ,203 case, cage bed. Has a 6'' lift ,but really like the prerunner look.Just woundering if I underslung my axles on the lift springs, would that work or be a waste.

Re: 73-87 prerunners.....found pics..
A lower center of gravity is good, even the hardcore 4x4 guys are going this route. Makes for better handling.
Another thought as well is that softer long travel leaf packs can be used and with the spring under mounting it helps keep the axle wrap under control. |
Re: 73-87 prerunners.....found pics..
Can you do the same to the rear?I have 6'' springs on rear ,then undersling springs.I can't make out the pics of the prerunners on the page. Any ideas? Thanks

Re: 73-87 prerunners.....found pics..
A lot of the pictures I posted have trailing arm rear suspensions (think 67-72 Chevy/GMC trucks...)
They make "flip" kits for the rear for the lowered crowd, but if you added say 6" lift springs you may get a couple inches of lift. Of course this works best with long travel leaf springs (Deaver as example) and may require modifications to the bed/frame to get the most out of the travel. May also need to do a shackle flip (Off road design as example) to get a few more inches of lift out of the rear to match the front. Solid front axle with the axle flipped probably won't have much travel though, due to clearance issues with the engine/frame, etc... |

3rd Row Seat. 4 Speed Manual Trans, with NP203 Transfer case, 87 Suburban Face Lift, It sucks, I have to trade for a smaller truck because I wont get rid of my 73 GMC Super Custom 2500 3/4 Ton 4x4, Anyways back to the Jimmy she has lots of flex but a small anti-freeze leak. http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8dd85f31.jpg http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/...psd12a8f59.jpg |

Re: 73-87 prerunners.....found pics..
Well I just noticed that lol. But you really can't blame anyone when it states 73 - 87. I just don't see many 73 GMC or Chevy trucks out there. maybe because I am stuck fixing mine at my house.

Re: 73-87 prerunners.....found pics..
I was really just using this thread to document all the square body prerunners that I had found. When I find new one I come back and add to the thread.
