Happy Holidays to ALL!!! I survived another x-mas and i hope Y'all did too. New Years = out with the old and in with the new! since my last post the f1 had to go back in my shop for some more wiring (relays), heater, engine& trans cooling mods. .The Radiator was crap and so was my new trans cooler.Both have been replaced as well as the heatercore. :(. well the F1 is DONE! what a streetfight that was! nothing was easy!!! the Damn Yankee is back in the shop and is on top of the to do list. AT LAST!!!!! i did'nt get much done in the way of fabrication but i was able to score some new QA1 Coilovers for the rear and my prostreet tires and rims this year as well as several other small ticket items. That was a great achievement IMHO with the way this economy is going. well from here on out it's in the shop untill it's DONE! it's been too long since i've driven it and it's driving me crazy! I can't wait to smoke those big tires! stay tuned. phipp out

here are the latest pics of my progress. passenger side cab corner and rocker panel fitting and welding. i have instaqlled these many times and i have yet to come accross a corner that fit perfectly. is there such an animal ? if so where do i get them?


note the sliver i had to remove off the cabcorner in order to fit

make no bones about it i'm no Barrett Jackson car builder. i just got some good grinders a decent welder and a little time.have any of you guys run accross the fittment issues i have with the cab corners? figured i'd ask.

Looking good. I don't think the corners ever fit well from what I've seen/heard...nothing a little work won't fix...

I've prolly installed a dozen cab corners and as many rockers; they're different every time. The last pair of rockers I changed had to be cut in the first 90 degree step(@ the door edge) and "rolled" out at the rear to line up with the door/cab corner and still leave w/strip room, whaddaya gonna do. Keep goin, it ain't broke till you can't fix it anymore.

Amen Phat Tony, if i can't fix it with a hammer,welder and grinder it's got to be an electrical problem! i could'nt wait to get home from work so i could get back out in the garage to work on the D.Y!

WELL I'M DOWN TO THE LAST PIECE OF RUSTED METAL IN THE CAB. I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M ALMOST DONE CUTTING AND WELDING REPAIR PANELS! I WAS JUST STARTING TO HAVE FUN.. LOL! FOR ALL YOU GUYS OUT THERE IN THE NICER CLIMATES TAKE A LOOK AND SEE... JUST HOW GREAT YOU GOT IT!!! I SUPPOSE I COULD HAVE TRAVELED AND BOUGHT A CAB. THIS TRUCK HAS GOT A HISTORY, IT WAS ORIGIONALLY BUILT FOR THE US NAVY IN 3/72 I HAVE ALL THE ORIGIONAL PLACKARDS AND EVEN ONE OF THE OLD GUYS AT WORK REMEMBERS THE TRUCK IN ITS HAYDAY.

IF YOU HAVE ANY RUST OVER THE WINDSHIELD I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO HAVE IT REPLACED. MINE WAS JUST BUBBLING UP AND I GAVE IT THR SCREWDRIVER TEST. IF THE SCREWDRIVER GOES THRU REPLACE IT IMMEDIATLY.

I USED MY AIR CHISEL TO POP OFF THE SPOTWELDS CAREFULLY AND CLEANED THEM UP WITH MY GRINDERS.

ALL CLEANED UP FOR SAND BLASTING AND POR 15 BEFORE I CLOST IT UP WITH THE NEW HEADER PANEL. THE DAMN YANKEE HAS BEEN GETTIN MUCH ATTENSION AS OF LATE.. ALL IS WELL WITH THE WORLD AGAIN!!! GOTTA KEEP ON TRUCKIN! PHIPP

sourkraut, there are repops out there for just under 100. bucks. what i cut out was just an initial cut there will be 1 more fittment cut after its blasted and treated with POR 15. i will take more pics during install. i could see daylight from the inside out. this is from the seam sealer drying up and cracking over the years. i picked up a new product at the Mid-Atlantic paint convention in Upper Marlboro MD i attended last month. i will provide info on it when i use it.
i git the word in friday that i'll needing to travel to yuma AZ this spring for work and i'm trying to drive out there and back and just maybe i could pick me up one of those non-rusted desert trucks i've always dreamed of owning or at least a few parts. hell i'll load my truck till the bumper drags ground.

Has anyone done this patch panel? i'm on the fence on welding accross the roof or Epoxying that seam in. Then just weld the sides and the bottom .i'd hate like hell to ripple the roof from welding it. i know spot tacking minimizes distorsion, i'm just a little hesitant on doing it and messin it up. Any advice/encouragement would be welcomed at this point. :)

here are some pics of the roof gutter outer and inner. i removed old seam sealer,sand blasted,weld up pin holes,and POR 15ed the outer and inner areas then cut and fit the new peice.

I'd be real tempted to glue the long seam; it'd be a booger to bodywork between the ribs in the roof if it warps on you, I can feel a kink in my neck just thinkin about it.

Well guys, i fianlly got up the balls to weld to roof panel in, plus the epoxy would take a couple of days to get here. i figured i'd have to go with what i know and weld it! i plug welded the slots and prayed real hard that i would'nt buckle the inner roof panel.a little swipe of z-grip bondo here and there and i think i'll be able to live with it.
