I'm interested too. Been thinkin of changing over to a later o-ring style steering box that I could run with the hoses from the hydroboost. So maybe upgrading to a power R&P that bolts in might be even better. I'm gonna make a wild guess that the R&P will take the o-ring type hoses.

1. Yes, it's an O-ring style rack.
2. We drove on this set up last night, at our local test track, and everything is working great. Perfect steering, good feedback, no bumpsteer, and no noise. Soon we will have them ready for sale. hopefully in early may.

hey what a coincidence my birthday is in May. sounds like an awesome present...hint hint.
that is great. I have driven thes old trucks for a long time is the no bumpsteer the main reason for the swap? I guess is there a "list" of here is why I would want a RP steering? it sure seems like a good idea since the trucks now have all the different linkages.

Why? Far more precise input and feedback; aside from my GMC, every vehicle I've owned has had a rack and pinion, and every vehicle I've owned, including the crapbox '98 Ranger I bought with 164k on the clock and a worn out front suspension, and my old '88 Volvo with 180k on it, is/was more pleasant to drive in the curves and easier to place on the road than my GMC, despite all of the lowering goodies.

This is to say - I really, really want one :) It sounds weird to say, but if I could make my truck actually turn and stop like my Volvo did, except with roughly 3x the horsepower, I think I'll be set.

Weekend update. We had a great time in Del-Mar this weekend at the Good-Guys show. We ran our JT truck in the autocross, and drove it all over town, as well as to and from Del-Mar. We are really happy with the steering, and the rack kit. Looks like a home run. We won the truck class in the Silver Bullit 55, with a 34.144, the JT ran a 36.647, and we really need a trans controller to keep it in low, Rob Mcewen's Dueces Wild 67 F-100 ran a 35.153 (class 2nd), and Rob Phillips 69 C-10 ran a quick 34.557 for 5th in the Vendor class. If the JT's times look slow, it still ran faster than half of the entries. Not bad for it's first outing.

drove it to work today, again, and it is a pleasure to drive. We heard a squeek on the compression in a right turn, but it was the lower bushings, so better news. We are using the late model pump, and stock hoses. 2002 c-1500. We are looking at source books to see if we can find a stock hose for the early style pump. I'll keep you posted

I got a bushing from Speedway that adapts a flare style hose to an o-ring style pump. Works great.

I think that I will have to wait till this comes out. I am redoing an 82 model for my son's first truck. We were going to rebuild the front suspension and steering this summer, but might want to wait on this kit.

Rob - will you have the JT and Silver Bullet at the GoodGuys at TMS in October? I did not get to go to the March meet...

Rob, How does the service life of the rod ends compare to OEM tie rod ends? Are the permanently lubricated or lubricatable?

yes my trucks new front end just screams for a quicker steering setup. the stock box is tooo sloooww and requires to much input for anything curvier then a straight line :lol:

We're working on it as fast as we can. The tie rod end (rod-end) life span should be about 30k miles, shorter than stockers, but not to bad. This is a common rod end so easy to replace.

How is the rack going to connect to the steering shaft? Any chance that this will also give us a good chance to ditch the rag joint and go to a U-joint?

Oh YES, the kit will include the lower U-Joint and 3/4" D-D shaft. However, since we have no way of knowing what column everyone will be using, the upper U-joint is not part of the kit. We stock most of the common sizing, but an upper U-joint will be required.

rob just to make sure this setup will work with an inline 6 292 and the stock power steering system..also will the stock power steering hoses work or are new ones in the kit. thanks

Rob, Can you please advise in detail the modifications required for this kit if it remains the same as your test beta. You mentioned small notch is required, I assume this would be frame notch?

Also for people running LS engines will there still be a requirement for a modified drivers side engine mount if we are using CPP tubular mounts?

Too late (and too much invested) to take advantage of Rob's new rack setup - but, damn, this is HUGE. An affordable R&P for our trucks is epic.

Props to No Limit. Woot!
