Re: Where does your exhaust exit?
Anyone make their own x-pipe? Seems like it should be pretty easy to cut an oval out of 2 pieces of 45 degree mandrel pieces from summit or whatever, and weld them together. Since it's short pieces, you would be able to get a tool in there to clean the welds up even. $14 roughly, instead of $100...

close enough they would bang each other, once it was pieced it could be tacked and removed cut and welded properly was too many $$ as they wanted to go up and around being 4X4,might work better 4X2 tho |

My 86 K20 is a factory dual exhaust so far as I can tell , and it looks to be original and in good shape and no factory catalytic converters I assume its because its a heavy duty 350 :metal:

Just a temporary setup on mine till I can afford Flowmaster 40s, right now I've got stock manifolds and cat, with a good ol Cherry Bomb glasspack and single exhaust exiting in front of the left rear wheel. Sounds nice, looks great, but way too quiet for my tastes. Cant wait for the 40s!!

Re: Where does your exhaust exit?
Thanks! I still have some work to do on them, cause I was thinking about making them tuck more to where the bottom of the tip would be flush with the bottom of the truck.

Re: Where does your exhaust exit?
I just got around to cutting my old mufflers and tailpipes off, put on two slip-on 2.5 Thrush glasspacks (same as Cherry Bombs) Sounds wicked at idle, pretty good going down the road and not bad at all at highway speed (55 mph, what can I say I've got 4.10s and a 3 speed) I do have a pretty noisy drone at about 35, which is where much of my driving is done, so I'm looking to add some tailpipes. The mufflers right now exit just before the rear axle, but past the front of the rear tires, so I couldn't 90 them out the sides in front of the tires. I also have some sort of bracket in the way keeping me from going straight back on one side, but I might cut it and adjust it to clear. I don't have the tools to bend a pipe around the bracket, so whatever I have to do is going to be made from off the shelf parts. Advance has 18 inch pieces and 45s or 90s, so depending on how far back the 18 inch gets me I may try for the 45. I don't think 18 will get me far enough to turn 90 and come out behind the rear tires.
Reason I came looking for this thread again was to see if I could figure out which would be the best way to do the tailpipes. Straight back would be easiest amd looks good, but I never liked that because of bashing into frozen snowbanks when backing up plowing, and like someone else mentioned having to shut the truck off to hook up a trailer. I like the 45 degree look, and the 90 also. I'm wondering if the side exit may sound even cooler at a lopy idle because you're only hearing half the cylinders at once, making an even lopier sound. |
