Re: Power Window Relay Mod?
There's a few ways to do it. If it's something you plan to tackle, there are a myriad of diagrams all over Google showing how to do it. I don't do it the typical way since I like to convert to a ground trigger but that involves modifying the switch connector leads itself and it is better to go with a new harness in a lot of cases then....and that allows for nicer upgrades like auto down, etc. and while a basic relay splice kit will work, there are a few ways to do it. I'd say look for a diagram you're most comfortable doing yourself....kinda hard to suggest how since a lot of my components are commercial grade and not found in any of your typical places.

Re: Power Window Relay Mod?
I do depending on what you'd like to do. I have:
Relay splice kits for stock setups Relay splice kits w/auto down Relay splice kits w/auto down/up Full replacement harness with or w/o ground trigger and still the previous listed options. |
Re: Power Window Relay Mod?
Just regular relays you have found reliable.
I like the auto up and down but that takes some wiring changes Im not sure Im up to. |
Re: Power Window Relay Mod?
Well I got it all wired up properly but got no power. I used the pink wire from the switch as my power source to both relays. From switch, brown and blues to 85 (both relays) and from the motor brown and blues both to 30. Tied my grounds together 86 and 87a on both relays to one ground wire. I go to test and nothing happens. My ground from the relays were drilled into the door. Am I missed something? Do I not have an adequate ground from the switch?

How much are you asking for your rely splice kits, with Auto up/down? Also, does anyone have any idea just how much faster the windows actually go, once you have them hooked up to relays? Anyone have a video? Is it really worth the trouble? Or is it only a slightly noticeable increase in speed? |
Re: Power Window Relay Mod?
Time wise with all your door hardware in good shape, on average the relay mod knocks the time in half or slightly more-then add autondown and it's like having a new truck-it's something people never notice unless they suddenly don't have that feature then they're like wtf? lol

Re: Power Window Relay Mod?
Here is a solid state version I installed on my kids 91 K5 Blazer (same as 73-87 C10) that does normal button control of power windows, also one-touch express up/down for both drivers and passenger windows (only from drivers buttons, would take 2nd module to do from passenger side), Also with wireless receiver and Key Fob for power door locks. No mods to switch are required, only cut wires and insert this in serial. Is 20V tolerant so no issue with weird rewiring.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jo7a...ature=youtu.be Sorry about wiring mess, was in hurry. Notice the window regulator bolts were loose. Seems common, same on passengers side. It is 30 amp rated per module and CAN bus enabled (I am not using this), has 6 differential drives and 7 input channels, and only measures 2.5x1.6x2.6 inches, and is 6 oz. has both timer for express up/down and current sensing for min/max/obstacles. Module is not yet released, I am beta testing for them. I will keep forum posted. |

Re: Power Window Relay Mod?
5 Attachment(s)
Here’s some random pics and install images showing placements of components-the auto down/up kits can be wired as splice harnesses or integrated into full replacement harnesses. Often, the switch connector wiring is suspect as is the wiring going through the cab/door boot into the kick panel area-I have solutions for all of that.

Re: Power Window Relay Mod?
I'm gonna do this!
But does anyone know of a good fuse block to place under the hood, next to the battery? I'm going to have too many wires all trying to be attached to the battery. I need a fuse block so I only have to have one extra set of wires going to the battery. Preferably a fuse block where you have some room to write a little label on there, so you know what wire is used for what. |
