Did not have to wait long before Bill called and said he sprayed some clear on the bed. He sprayed 5 coats of clear this afternoon. The base coats are on the tailgate.

He just sent me these pics:metal:. Looking Good Bill!

:metal: very nice! Are you going to paint the CHEVROLET letters orange too? And shouldn't there be a small orange stip along the bottom?

Re: 72 K20 Cab Body & Paint Complete!

I am going with black letters. At the very bottom and top of the tailgate, you will see the edge of the black sprayed on bedliner. The back of the tailgate will be sprayed with bedliner. The black bedliner will also come over the top on the bed sides just a little and the edge will match all the way around the bed.

As you can see, this will not be a full blown restoration to original. This will be a weekend driver and I want it to be Heavy Duty.:sumo: I manage some rental properties on the weekends and often haul landscape stone or branches/brush. I have restored 78 & 79 4WD :chevy:trucks in the past and the inside of the tailgates and tops of the bedsides always got scratched up. Was always trying to touch them up. This time I'm trying the bed liner. We'll see how it goes.

Personally I think the slight black edge at the top and bottom of the tailgate will set off the black letters pretty nice. Definitely got the orange, white, and black color scheme going all over this truck.

Classic parts sells trash guards precut for the cowl panel. http://www.classicparts.com/1967-72-...tinfo/38-891S/

The paint job looks great. I may have to drive down to MD when I am ready for paint and get your friend to do it! ;)

This is really coming along nice! I really like the idea of actually DRIVING and USING your truck like a TRUCK! I'm going the same direction with mine. Daily driver that will get used. I was wondering how/where you got the custom SPID? It's really cool to add a custom touch to such a project!

Re: 72 K20 Cab Body & Paint Complete!

Looking good. With the fenders off you may consider adding the extra baffling found on the Cheyenne trucks ahead of the door along the side of the cowl...may cut down on drafts in the cab. If the truck was not originally equipped as such you'll need a couple of OEM brackets but repro baffling is available no prob.

DD1, Did you install those stainless cowl shields? If so, do you have a picture of them installed? Will pass your paint comment on to my friend Bill. He definitely is very thorough and does a very nice job. He is also a great mechanic!!!

Ryanmctee, I made the SPID sheet myself using microsoft excel and a blank SPID sheet available from Jim Osborn.

http://osborn-reproduction.com/catal...64KEY%3APAR%3A

I formatted the excel spreadsheet to fit the blank SPID sheet and just retyped the information that was on my original SPID. I though it turned out pretty good. It took a lot of trial and error printing but finally got the spacing and font size close enough. I then laminated the sheet.

Re: 72 K20 Cab Body & Paint Complete!

DeadheadNM, Could you post some pictures and /or send me a link to where I can get the baffling you mentioned and the brackets. I am interested.
Thanks.

Was thinking about using some of that TPM sound deadening mat in that area in front of the door but will consider the baffling material.

Thanks.

These are "inner fender seals" see them in the LMC catalog: http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cb/full.aspx?Page=11

No OEM brackets are made and these only came on trucks with higher end trim packages. The Duncan's may have the brackets if you want to install these seals. A WTB post on the parts board may scare some up too. Best, Pete

Unfortunately, I did not install them; I just happened to see them when I was browsing through the Classic Parts website. I am not where near being done with my truck, hell I am no where near getting started, so this would not be something I would have gotten as yet.

I like the SPID sheet you made. That is awesome. I am going to have to get one of those. Bookmarking the site for now.

I have the LMC trash gaurds for my 72 but haven't installed them yet. I like the over the rail bed liner treatment idea. Especially since the bed caps made for the 67-72's don't go all the way around the end of the bed to the tail gate. They look unfinished to me. The bed liner should help protect it and not take away from the looks either. If you ever want a spid that matches OEM type, contact board member Chipflyer. He can get you set up.

Just read through your build and I must say it all looks very nice. The bedliner looks like it turned out great... waiting to see the untaped pics.:smoke:

Re: 72 K20 Cab Body & Paint Complete!

Bedliner looks awesome. I definately agree with doing the tops of the bed rails. Curious, how much material did it take, and did you have to scuff the tops of the bedrails to get the liner to stick or just apply it over the fresh paint? Your truck is going to be awesome when finished!

Re: 72 K20 Cab Body & Paint Complete!

Oh yeah, that turned out awesome! I may have to do that to mine. We'll see. I'd like to build some aluminum bed caps for it though.

Re: 72 K20 Cab Body & Paint Complete!

I wouldn't have sprayed the liner like you have (up top), since I don't think I'll be hauling too much brush, etc... Didn't realize you manage rental properties, landscaping and all. Makes perfect sense to line it like you have and looks sweet :metal: When we first started tearing mine down, we considered spraying the inside of the bed (minus the wood of course) with liner.

What product for the liner? Looks tough. :sumo:

Re: 72 K20 Cab Body & Paint Complete!

It is called U-Pol Raptor Spray-On Truck Bed Liner Kit. TP Tools sells a kit for $109 + shipping. Kit includes (4) 25 oz bottles of bed liner base , 1 liter of hardener, and a spray gun. I bought 2 kits for my truck because I am also doing the bottom of the bed and cab. Maybe even the inside of the front fender skirts. I bought it online at www.tptools.com

Re: 72 K20 Cab Body & Paint Complete!

Thank you all very much for your compliments! For the longest time kept discovering more problems. Kept thinking to myself... Am I Ever Going To Get This Thing Done :confused::confused:

The end is now in site!!!! Compliments over the past 21 months always got the adrenalin flowing. We all know these restorations are not easy and many of us probably have days when we come out to the garage and look at our pile of parts, get overwhelmed, and think ..... Why Did I Even Start This Project !!!.

My advice, make a To Do list, the adrenalin will start flowing, every time you cross off something. Get at least 1 thing done, even if it is a little 15 min job. My problem for a while was that I was crossing 1, but adding 2 or 3 more!!!

Also, don't let the Nay Sayers try to suck the energy out of you by saying What In The World Have You Got Yourself Into!!!!:waah: You can't restore that piece of junk:lol:!!!! I love hearing those same people see my project now and say WOW, I Never Thought It Would Look This Good.

It really feels good to show negative people you can have positive results with what they thought was a lost cause. Don't give up, you'll be much happier as you start to see results!

I just read through the whole thing. Beautiful truck:metal: Wasn't sure if I wanted the black on top of the bedrails with a white roof so I just had the inside of my bed sprayed. Yours turned out pretty good though.

I just love that color scheme! I can't wait to see this one together.
