Re: Let's see those 6.2 Detroits!!!
They should. I know people put 6.5 turbo manifolds on 6.2s so I don't see why headers wouldn't fit.

You'll also want a free flowing exhaust to take most advantage of those headers. Afterwards, turn up the pump and it'll be like a whole different animal. You'll then wonder why GM never did this when they built the truck. The increase in fuel economy has more than paid for these headers. |

On the body lift, if your truck is 4wd and stock height, yes I could see where you'd need a body lift. Trucks that are 2wd don't need them though. Maybe a raised floor tunnel at the most.

Stan's,that's it...thanks!
The Duramax/Allison didn't come out until the HD line came out in '01,which allowed more room. When the body style changed in '03 they were made to accommodate the drivetrain. I believe clearance is why they stopped offering a diesel Suburban...bad move. One more diesel hijack. For Cummins powered Chevy fans: |
Re: Let's see those 6.2 Detroits!!!
Personally I wouldn't waste my money on a NV5600, G5600, or an Allison 1000 series in a conversion. Guys keep claiming the NV5600's are bullet proof, well wait until they break. If it hasn't had the case drilled for an oil galley, you'll find out sooner or later. Anyhow, sorry for the hijack. Carry on with the 6.2's, I mean diesels in squares thread.

I've had a couple of those type deals, got rid of them only to figure out the problems afterword :banghead: |
Re: Let's see those 6.2 Detroits!!!
I know these things inside and out now. I didn't understand them back then and was intimidated. I never messed with anything newer than '72,except a couple '78s with all the emissions stuff off. Light truck diesel mechanics were about non-existent and big truck guys weren't familiar with specifics. I'd pay them money to do what I already did and end up with the same problem. The newer solid state system was less prone to trouble. I used the helm book schematic to track down a bad controller. I'd blow a fuse as soon as the glow plug light came on. I had a guy who worked for me pick one up at the dealer. I put it in,turn the key, glow plug light comes on and right back out. The fuse was blown. I take it to a diesel shop and they replace the controller that I hadn't even paid for yet. That sucks! You'd think the purpose of a fuse is to protect the parts on the circuit. How the heck a $100 part can burn up before a fuse blows as soon as put juice to it is beyond me. That was the real problem. I hate electrical issues. They found a short and fixed it. But,I still kept having problems later on. I just never knew if it was fixed or not. Just when I started feeling good about it I'd get stranded somewhere. I even ruined two brand new batteries trying to start it stranded somewhere...melted the posts off it. I loved that truck but that stuff drove me crazy! All anyone would say was,"Put a gas motor in".

Re: Let's see those 6.2 Detroits!!!
You know Tim, it's kind of funny. My little brother's 84 was a twin to your truck except with a gasser before we started the resto. That poor truck was rusted out horrible.
