They should. I know people put 6.5 turbo manifolds on 6.2s so I don't see why headers wouldn't fit.

Yes they will but call them to make sure.

You'll also want a free flowing exhaust to take most advantage of those headers.

Afterwards, turn up the pump and it'll be like a whole different animal. You'll then wonder why GM never did this when they built the truck. The increase in fuel economy has more than paid for these headers.

Edahall, do you have a build thread on that Suburban with the 6 speed in it? Nice trucks.

Sorry I don't. I will say though that the 6 speed is extremely nice but it's a tight fit due to the sheer size of it. Most conversions end up using a body lift or use a lighter duty transmission.

On the body lift, if your truck is 4wd and stock height, yes I could see where you'd need a body lift. Trucks that are 2wd don't need them though. Maybe a raised floor tunnel at the most.

The floor tunnel is exactly where the issue is regarding fitting in an NV5600 transmission. There's hardly enough space there. Another transmission that causes fitment issues is the Allison transmission used in the Chevy Duramax. I heard that's why this transmission wasn't used in vans and that trucks equipped with transmission have a body lift.

Stan's,that's it...thanks!

The Duramax/Allison didn't come out until the HD line came out in '01,which allowed more room. When the body style changed in '03 they were made to accommodate the drivetrain. I believe clearance is why they stopped offering a diesel Suburban...bad move.

One more diesel hijack. For Cummins powered Chevy fans:

Personally I wouldn't waste my money on a NV5600, G5600, or an Allison 1000 series in a conversion. Guys keep claiming the NV5600's are bullet proof, well wait until they break. If it hasn't had the case drilled for an oil galley, you'll find out sooner or later. Anyhow, sorry for the hijack. Carry on with the 6.2's, I mean diesels in squares thread.

How did you route the exhaust? Outside the frame rail?
Got any more pics?

I ran the exhaust outside of the frame rail, under the cab, and up through the bed. I will check to see what I have for pictures.

Thanks. That thing was pretty high out back. That red '87 belonged to my buddy who worked for me. I had cornice, hardboard siding (out back),and copper roof contract on that one. I believe that was 1989.

Thanks, again. Did I ever mention I wish I still had it?? It was just the way I wanted it. Even had an killer Alpine stereo with an Alpine phone that worked along with it. They had the same green glow buttons and when I got a call the volume automatically went down or the tape paused. I had amps under the seat and Kicker boxes behind the seat. I got rid off it because I was fed up with chronic glow plug failure. Can you believe that? I loved it all summer long for the four years I had it. But,from October to March it gave me the dickens. I put more controllers, inhibitors, relays, and glow plugs in that thing just to ave them burn out. I was ready to order a new under hood harness when I read about the 6.5TDs coming out and decided to order one. I had the Helm book and knew the wire colors by heart. I took it to truck repair shops, fixed shorts I thought were the problem. I just didn't know enough about them, couldn't find a shop that did,and was afraid to try overriding the system. It was all voodoo to me and GM scared me out of trying anything different. When my wife was expecting my son I had to keep my truck plugged into the generator on the job or start it up every hour. I sold it to a farmer friend who wired up a momentary switch and ran it another 10 years. Work was rolling back then and I needed something I could get in and go! I wanted to keep it when I got the new truck, then my friend asked about it and I let it go. I had a lot of old trucks to mess with back then and I didn't consider the '84 too new to fool with. Now I'd like an '80s truck to run as a daily driver again.

Yeah,

I've had a couple of those type deals, got rid of them only to figure out the problems afterword :banghead:

Re: Let's see those 6.2 Detroits!!!

I know these things inside and out now. I didn't understand them back then and was intimidated. I never messed with anything newer than '72,except a couple '78s with all the emissions stuff off. Light truck diesel mechanics were about non-existent and big truck guys weren't familiar with specifics. I'd pay them money to do what I already did and end up with the same problem. The newer solid state system was less prone to trouble. I used the helm book schematic to track down a bad controller. I'd blow a fuse as soon as the glow plug light came on. I had a guy who worked for me pick one up at the dealer. I put it in,turn the key, glow plug light comes on and right back out. The fuse was blown. I take it to a diesel shop and they replace the controller that I hadn't even paid for yet. That sucks! You'd think the purpose of a fuse is to protect the parts on the circuit. How the heck a $100 part can burn up before a fuse blows as soon as put juice to it is beyond me. That was the real problem. I hate electrical issues. They found a short and fixed it. But,I still kept having problems later on. I just never knew if it was fixed or not. Just when I started feeling good about it I'd get stranded somewhere. I even ruined two brand new batteries trying to start it stranded somewhere...melted the posts off it. I loved that truck but that stuff drove me crazy! All anyone would say was,"Put a gas motor in".

Re: Let's see those 6.2 Detroits!!!

You know Tim, it's kind of funny. My little brother's 84 was a twin to your truck except with a gasser before we started the resto. That poor truck was rusted out horrible.
