The steering is going to be tight. I had to run a couple of DD joints to get the steering to clear my headers and mounts. I will try and get some close up pics for you. |

Re: 1956 Chevy 3100 Corvette Suspension
After what seems like an eternity I finally got my fedex tracking number for my wheels. Looks like it will be Christmas in May as well.

Finally I have wheels and a steering wheel. The steering wheel is the half wrap so I can add the leather to it once I get my interior done. 20 x 8.5 and 20 x 10 Raceline Burst 5 with matching steering wheel.

I got the tires mounted on today. I was also able to test fit them and they look pretty good. The rear will need some modifications. Either widening the fenders (which I don't really want to do) or narrow he rear end. Either way I think once everything is setup correctly it will look awesome on the air bags.

I couldn't set the truck on the ground because it was sitting on jack stands and the coil overs were taken off. Also the rear tire is hitting the fender so some modifications will be needed. Seems like there's always something else that comes up that requires more time.

Here's a pic showing how close the tire is to the fender. Not too happy about it but also not much that I can do.

Re: 1956 Chevy 3100 Corvette Suspension
Wheels look nice.
That rear tire is a bit close. Kim |

The rear tire took up more room than I anticipated. I knew I was going to have to make some modifications but I wasn't expecting it to be like that. I have to widen the fender or narrow the rear end. Not sure either option is ideal. Widening the fender is the easiest but then you mess with the body line of the truck. Not sure what to do. |
Re: 1956 Chevy 3100 Corvette Suspension
I have no idea what it would take to narrow a vette rear.
Can you exchange the wheels for ones with a different offset? Kim |
Re: 1956 Chevy 3100 Corvette Suspension
Can't exchange the wheels. They are custom ordered. I'm not too concerned. Worse case I widen the fenders. I found some info today about how to narrow the rear end so I might try that.

Re: 1956 Chevy 3100 Corvette Suspension
Great build, I'll be headed down a very similar path, except I'll be doing 57 GMC. How did you establish ride height, front & rear? What is the set back on those shinny new rims?
Thanks |

something you might want to think about - for your back fenders being too close to your tires .take the 2 or 3 fender braces off and add a inch to the brace in the middle -cut it -add it - weld it bk up- fit it . i think its the 2 top braces only - it'll push the fender out just a tad - possibly giving you the lil extra room for your tire - just a thought lemmee know what ya think v v nice wheels sir . |
Re: 1956 Chevy 3100 Corvette Suspension
Nut Case
When we set up the ride height we knew someone using the flat out engineering bracket kit so we modeled ours from that but made our own brackets. Definitely a lot cheaper way to go and you can design it however you like. Daze57 Thanks for the idea. I will look into it and see what happens. |
