Yup, rest stop is popular with the big rigs for overnighters. I am putting a six back in it - may dress the motor up some, otherwise truck will be mostly OEM.
I am looking at possible knee replacement soon, so will have lots of time to play with it (hopefully).

So many people throw in a 350 its nuts. Anyway, Yer truck is looking killer awesome; I can't believe how good of shape its in to. Looking good! Keep up the good work. And your build is Far from boring. :chevy:

Those 6,s really respond to the addition of speed equiptment. Ive got a 66 GMC with a 250 & powerglide auto. The 250 is bored .040 and has a Offenhauser 4 BBl intake & valve cover - Heddman Hedders and a RV cam. It originally had a 390 cfm 4 bbl. However I adapted a Rochester 2 bbl from a 283. because the holley gaskets shrunk after sitting idle. the 2 bbl seems to run just as fast.

Old Truck Man, that is a nice looking engine. The one I am going to put in has electronic ignition, and a 32/36 weber on it. I have been thinking about doing a header also.

More progress - rounded up some more brake parts. Also working on door weatherstripping. As with others on here, once I had put on the new strip, I couldn't get the door to close without a good slam. Opening the passenger door helped relieve the air pressure, but didn't help that much. Spent some time thinking (hear the rocks rattling ?) and checking, looked to me that the door was hitting the pinch weld hard near the latch, down to the seal plate. Hmmm... what to do ? Grabbed up a 2x4 block and a BFH, and started working that area some, bending the pinch weld in a bit. Helped a bunch ! Still have to slam the door, but not near as hard as before. I can live with that - will make more "adjustment" later if necessary...... :metal:

Wow, just ran across this truck. You have a gem my friend. Any luck with the engine, and have you had a chance to do anything to it yet. I would love to just see it washed.

Haven't updated in awhile. I am layed up with a TKR (total knee replacement) for now, hope to be back at it soon.

Back at it - knee healed up pretty good, finished up OT.
Finally started on brakes, got left rear done - BUT - tried parking brake handle, I think the rear cables are froze up, so I will have to take brakes apart again :devil:. My bad, I should have checked that first - oh well.....

Rear brakes done,but.... Also replaced rear parking brake cables. When I tried hooking the parking brake to the adjustment rod, the intermediate cable wouldn't reach. New cables must be a little shorter than OEM.

Next order of business - installed replacement motor on engine stand, and pulled old motor. Time for clean up of engine bay, and to re-gasket and paint motor going in. Pics

Glad to see you back at it. If it was me I would get new u joints while the driveshaft is out. Might want to think about clutch and resurfacing the flywheel. I am always here to help you spend your money.

yea - clutch on the motor I bought was into the rivets. Question - can cracks on the surface of the flywheel be surfaced out? Both flywheels I have have cracks. Fred, do u recognize that engine stand?

Should not be a problem with surfacing the flywheel. Yes, that stand has had a lot of different small blocks on it over the years, from the nitrous motor in the S10 all the way back to the stock build I did for the 72 Nova.

Spent the afternoon stripping out the engine bay. Took out all wires, hoses, battery box, heater assembly etc....

At some point someone sprayed paint in the engine bay, but did not mask off the body. Wasn't sure what to do. Finally used rubbing compound and lots of elbow grease. Black paint rubs off reasonably easily, results....
