I'm in complete aww of this build. Subscribed for sure. What are you plans for the hood? I'm sure it looks different in person but aren't those inners a bit tall?

Nice build!!

Yes, the inner structure in front will need some surgery as it is too tall, and too long. Once I get the cab of the burb tied in, I will move to the front, to trim down anything that would share space with the body panels.

Fixing it being too tall will be easy. The too long part may be a obstacle, as the motor sits a great deal farther forward in the trailblazer chassis than the burb did. Getting the radiator, motor and grill to get along is going to be interesting. A challenge for sure!

Wow, very nice work. Not many people have the guts to chop up two trucks and fuse them together

Understandable. After seeing what you've accomplished on this doesn't leave me much room to think you'll have a hard time doing the rest. ;)

As everyone has said, awesome build.

I see your photos are all very clean, a bit like you used magic to make it all happen.... Ohhh yes, it is magic.

What else have you built before, and what line of business are you in?

I suspect you have done this sort of thing before, and your day job could be related. Or you could be a brain surgeon with a passion for creating mechanical monsters.

Look forward to this unfolding.

Thanks guys!

I used to not be so clean with my work. My friends would tease me saying i wasnt finished with my project until every tool i own was out. I found it to be less hectic if i spent 10 minutes cleaning up after myself whenever i work.

I work for a utlity company in indianapolis, indiana. I am a construction manager on an 18 foot diameter tunnel that is being constructed 250 feet below ground.

I like to keep my mind working, this project helps out with that for sure.

Ive had a number of project cars. This is the third chassis swap ive performed.

The first was a 1951 dodge pickup on a 1996 s10 chassis

The second was a 1949 studebaker truck on a 1999 dodge dakota rt chassis.

Both projects were fun, the studebaker was a blast to drive, but i have a wife and two kids, so we couldnt all ride together. I figured building an SUV would allow me to enjoy my build with my family.

I've said that about NASCAR too. Old 50's&60's body style with new safety features.

I took the day off today to concentrate on getting the steering column mocked up. I had to move the column a few inches inboard to line up with the pedals and driver seat. Im pretty happy with the outcome. I tossed in my gauges just to see how it would look.

Any updates for the new year?

Eagletucky 01-02-2016 10:54 AM

Re: 1966 Suburban...Sort of...Trailblazer SS SWAP

Sure!

Im still working on tying in all of the suburban body to the trailblazer floor. Ive made it to the firewall, i only have one piece left, and that will be done. Im still just tacking panels in, so i will have a ton of welding to do once i get everything tied. Ill be moving on to the front end this weekend. I ordered new front fenders as mine were too bad to repair, so i can start mockup on those once they arrive. Ill post up a pic or two later this weekend. Thanks for the inquiry, and happy new year!
