A 1 ton is a 1 ton, flatbed or pickup bed, it's a 1 ton.

Trucks were 1 1/2 ton and larger.

All pickups and trucks had a bowtie or GMC on the grill or a Detroit Diesel under the hood.

Being the utilitarian he was, everything else was a waste of money.

I agree!!!

1/2 through 1 ton (vehicles) are considered light duty trucks!!! AS IN PICKUP TRUCKS!!!

School buses and such (they usually have hydraulic brakes, not all though...) are medium duty trucks.

Tractor/trailer tucks that haul 53' trailers up and down the highway, that only have air brakes are heavy duty trucks.

El Caminos and S-10's barely make the grade as pickups. 3 bags of leaves in the back, and they are over loaded...LOL

Subaru Brat's and the such are cars that didn't get their roofs properly installed!!!

The word "Truck" is misused here, almost always.

Totally agree. I grew up around the trucking industry. My grandpa owned a trucking company that my dad and his brothers all worked for. When someone said truck, they meant one of the dumptrucks or tractors. The vehicles that they all drove to work and back in were all pickups. This led to a lot of confusion for me as a young lad. When my friends said that their dad drove them to school in their truck, I thought they meant dumptruck since that is what truck meant to me.

I fully support the use of the word Ute to describe any vehicle that can be driven on a regular road license with an unenclosed cargo area in the back... Whether its a Suzuiki Mightyboy or a K30

But I also fully support the metric system among other things, so use this information however you see fit

Hey Gary,
Back in the day, ('79) I had a '70. I called it a car too. It wasn't an SS but had the hood. Here is a picture of it actually AT Bremerton airport. (I used to pump avgas there.) Sorry about the quality of the pic. It is a scan of an old picture left over from a slide show. Ha ha.

I believe I have commented on this before. I haul small stuff with my 70. But I have enough trucks 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton to where I consider it my mini truck.

Ya, that was how it was explained to me... tractor pulls, truck carries, and a "semi" is a semi tractor.

I too have too much useless knowledge... which pretty much makes me useless!
