Got off work at 5 and got busting to work! drilled out the rivets on the front radiator support shelf And drilled out the rear cab mount. Modified the radiator support to fit above the front spring mount, and got it bolted up. The old one sheered off from the frame. Got both of the inner fenders installed with new inner fender to cab seals.
Then the hood got tossed on the hood hinges for the first time on the new 4x4 frame And cab. HOLY MOSES I can barly reach the top of the hood when it's all the way up. Sheesh. and I'm 5,11" ha. So now that that's all on I need to replace front cab bushings to level out the trucks body lines.. Guna use a horse stall mat... Oh and at work today I'm about 50% done with restoring the blinker assemblies all sandblasted and half of the parts are painted. They should clean up the truck a bit when installed. Hopefully this weekend. |

Shot the hood inserts gloss white. Only one small run. Nothing that can't be sanded out. And got the Chevrolet portion. Shot in primer. Waiting until someone convinces me to shoot it gloss black or semi gloss.....I can't make up my mind.

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.
Looks good....Black grill letters might disappear in front of the radiator ?, maybe Metallic Silver. I have had some fun with Duplicolor cast colors then clear them in urethane. food for thought.....I will have to check it out sometime soon.

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.
Definitely. The letters are getting sprayed white just the raised portion. The semi gloss black is just for the negative space.

Got around to hanging the fenders and lining up the trim a bit better, put in the restored blinker inserts. And put the seat in the front, turned out nice it's temporary until I have the 65 re upholstered to factory original. Anyone have tips on what material to use?

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.
Sure is some pretty brightwork up front.....really pops and will look even better once paint is done.

Small update. Started masking off the front grill today with frisket. Hope to lay some color later this afternoon when it warms up a bit. And scored a 327 roller motor with one flat cam lobe from a friend. in trade for little work he needs done. The motors not for the 65 but thought I would share

That's awesome! Iv been raised here since I was 5. but my hearts in the mid west. Nebraska area. I'm here for however long it may be. But one thing that's nice is all the sunshine we get.
Sounds like the frisket peals off paint? Or does the adhesive etch the paint? |

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.
Hmm. I'll give it some thought. I was looking for a cam with around .460 lift and 290 duration but I'll take whatever. are they roller Lifters?
|
Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.
Its a flat tappet cam. ...remember you just wanted to keep it simple....haha
|
Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.
Hahah fair enough.
|
Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.
OK...fresh off the Summit website
Camshaft lift is .450 intake / .460 exhaust. Camshaft duration at 050 is 222 degrees intake and exhaust. Lobe centerline is 114 degrees. Normal engine manifold vacuum for the 350/290 HP engine is 10-12 in I think the vacuum stated is low...this one had about 15-16" on idle Joe |
Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.
hmm. What'd it run?
