I'm making some progress it is slow going but none the less progress. I really don't recommend doing what you see in these pics unless you do a good bit of studying Made my cuts, my first mistake as I should have cut the replacement part open first in my opinion I would have known a little more about what was behind it all Attachment 599295 Cut the spot welds that I could reach had to drill the ones where the dash was, which caused some frustration but not too much Attachment 599296 Here I was having some trouble getting the part out because of the sandwiched metal between the inside and outside panel, it took me awhile to figure out what was holding that part in place Attachment 599297 After I got it all out and ready for the new part to go back in place Attachment 599298 Cut out the replacement and then I could see what I should have seen before I started on the endeavor Attachment 599299 |

Here I got it fitted and started to tack it in place. The part got a little out of shape from cleaning and trimming, so I have to tack in the top first and then work my way down while making sure that everything was flush and int he right place
Attachment 599320 I still have to finish it up but I got it all in place and ready finish welding, I'm no certified welder but these welds looked pretty good. I think I had it set just right this time or pretty close anyway. Attachment 599321 |

I was tooling down GA 400 coming back home from a friends house when I looked in the mirror to see this car coming up in on me pretty quick as I slowed a little to see just what was fast approaching when all of the sudden i could hear the rumble a nice big block and to look over and see the front fender emblem and noticed the subtle hint of HEMI. OMG!!!! wow I could not believe it a 1968 Coronet R/T HEMI Convertible it was all done you could see how clean it was on the underside and it was even a 4 speed I could hear this guy shifting the gears as we were running down the hwy I rode beside them for about two miles but once he got on it one he was gone what a please to just see this thing running down the highway This is the only pic i got sorry it is not better but the car was very nice but I had to post anyway

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
I ran out to the tag office to get my title in my name today.
What an ordeal that was. In Ga you don't need a title if it is before 1986 and they will not even issue you a title if it is a 1962 or older (does not make sense ) even if you have a title. I bought the truck from out of state that may have been why I had to have the vin verified, so you have a police officer come out and verify your vin (no change for this service) once it has been verified good, not stolen etc you make another trip to the tag office and then fork over some cash for title & ad valorem tax so I don't know if it was a good idea to go through this mess now since I'll have to pay taxes on it from now on but it is not much, at least now I know that it is not stolen  so I can continue with my build with the knowledge it is clean. |
Re: 65Custom Build Thread
I did the same by having my VIN's checked on the 55 and 65. I haven't put them in my name yet. ;)

Finally got off my but today and did something. This is one of the custom mods that I have been planning for some time now and finally got the light in last week, my other way i was going to do the light was too much work but would have very cool the biggest problem was finding a light thin enough to fit so i had to find another light and this one seems to work pretty well.
1. measuring it out to make sure I have as close to center as possible. Attachment 639873 2. Making a mess I should have used my 3" grinder but I have small air compressor and it does not keep up well with a air hog. Attachment 639874 3. Clamped it up to get the bend i needed since this a concave curve it needed a little finesseing to get it to go up. Attachment 639875 4. A little preflight testing to see what it was going to look like and make sure that it was going in the right direction. Attachment 639876 5. Finally got it fitted and started tacking it in place and I ran out of wire, so this if as far as I got Attachment 639877 |

Test fitting and a little motivation for me to see how it is going to look. I hope the finished product looks good. I'm a little afraid the height that it has now due to opening up that curve into a flat area has not made the back look too weird or look like it was an after thought, at least I know it is not an after thought as I have put a lot of thought into this one mod even though it is pretty simple to do I want it to look good when it is finished.
Attachment 639881 Another angle I think it will be alright and as it stands now I'm stuck with it. Attachment 639882 |

It has been awhile since I posted anything for progress on mine but here are a couple of things that I have going.
I finished up the pocket for the third Brake Light I do still need to do a little finish work but the major work is completed Attachment 709847 Attachment 709848 I like the idea of a dash extension and taking a queue from one I have seen before I made a up template to see what it will look like when finished Attachment 709849 So I am still around and working on it just not as much as I would like |
Re: 65Custom Build Thread

It is on pause at the moment! I hope to get back on it a little later this year, I am adding a better half to my life if everything goes well this week

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
I will defiantly be waiting to see progress here looking great so far and all the tin replacement pictures are a huge help. I have scraped out a lot of trucks and now wish that I had disassembled a few at the spot welds and kept the useful panels. Seeing pictures of careful deconstruction of the cab parts definitely eases the fear factor of rust repair and panel replacement, I can see my next tool purchase being a sheet metal brake and shrinker/strecher. I have already bought some of those nifty panel clips I seen you were using and put them to replace the inner door sheet metal for the window regulator mount on my 64 GMC that the P.O. had cut out they sure work good big plus now the window goes up and down LOL.
BTW Good luck with the addition of the better half:cong: |

On my recent trip out of the country I saw a few trucks and most of us being truck guy I started trying to take pics of the ones I saw, I missed a few good ones because I didn't have my camera with me at the time and sorry but a few of them are not so great.
But I was surprised at how good a shape many of them were |

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Totally inspirational, I even made my wife look at more than a few of your pics!!
I want to do the one piece window with the wing omit too. About them rattling half way up or down, I think I would install the felt guides that the cars of this era came with. I replaced the driver side glass on my wifes 72 LeMans convertible, and had to adjust these guides so the glass would seat properly with the top up. Their function was obvious. I love threads like this, I learn so much from reading them!! PM sent for the cab corners too. Thanks !! |

nothing on my project but i pulled this from under my daily driver
Picked it up as I was entering the highway one day didn't know it was there I stopped and looked when it happened but never saw anything when i looked but I kept smelling plastic when I would get out of the truck obviously I should have crawled under and looked, but i have had the oil changed since it happened and no one ever said anything |

Don't remember if i have, but man that is mess I had a hard time just cleaning a little plastic I cant even imagine trying get that off or what that was like to drive after wards
I can tell a difference in mine after I removed it is so slight I had no idea it was there What really burns me is the idiot that left it loose in the back of his truck to fly out on to the highway I never saw it come off the truck as it happened as I was getting up to speed entering the highway had no time to avoid it |

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Just thought I would post and update, been doing a mental work on mine lately.
I think that is harder than actually working on it I've been thinking about getting Porterbuilt A-arms and trailing arms to move wheels to get the right look I want, along with increasing with wheel base I think will help the ride and handling, since I'm going to be using a LS motor I think moving the motor back as far as possible will help with weight distribution these trucks are front heavy and getting it closer to the 50 50 weight distribution should help all around. I need to go take a rest now, all this mental work is really tiring! |

Not to slam any one business over another but the areas around the big blue supercenter general stores that are open 24 hours seem to be the worse. Tooling down the road I straddled one of those shopping bags that was ghosting across the road (empty and floating like a ghost Heheheheh) and when I looked in my rear view it was gone. But I knew where it was... Then the stink of burning plastic (which scares the hell out of any classic driver because it smells just like an electrical system melt down) ensued. After that it was a few hours of scraping, wire wheeling, and sanding that melted crap off my muffler. I hate them. Never had one wrap around my driveline before, but I wont straddle one on the road ever again if at all possible.... |
