I wish I had the money, I would take it off your hands, get the DIY 4x brackets and turn it into a 4x4 with a 454 and a NV4500 paint it hugger orange, that would be effin rad!

Re: LFD's 4dr Burb Build
Well as my ADD kicks in again it looks like this project will go under the knife once again:lol: It was not selling like I thought it would and instead of dropping my price to a stupidly low amount I figured I might as well put in more time and shorten things up a bit. It is back in the shop and currently getting some layout marks before getting cut apart.
I will be following Mike's surgery directions but I am going with slightly different proportions and I will only be cutting my frame in the rear even know I am shortening the wheel base as well. The plans are for a 4 link of some design for the rear to be decided on at a later date. Since I am only going to shorten the WB by 9 3/4" their is no real reason for me shorten the center of the frame when I can do it all on the back end. This will also eliminate the need mods to the floor under the second row seat. First step is going to be cutting the rear wood floor out so I can gain access to remove tubs, tire well and misc braces. Then body slice and dice time will begin. Pic's to follow but not allot because I think Mike did such a great job documenting his their is no reason to do it twice since I am following his as well for parts of this next process. Re: LFD's 4dr Burb Build
Glad to see this is going to get completed...Still planning to sell it when done or will you keep it as the shop hauler?

Re: LFD's 4dr Burb Build
I sure wanted to buy it and have you shorten it but it is not in the budget. Grrrr!

Re: LFD's 4dr Burb Build
Not to bad for one days work. I shortened the wheel base 9 3/4" and brought the wheel wells up the same. Next will be to mark and cut the rear of the body off then shorten the frame 19 3/4". This will give me a rear over hang 2" longer than a short bed. I think with the wheel base this will look the best.

Whoa! Tahoe! The 3rd one too! Is it gonna stay 3/4 ton? or are you gonna put it different axles?
|
Re: LFD's 4dr Burb Build

Subscribing again!
|
Re: LFD's 4dr Burb Build
Looking good. My bet is that you end up keeping it :). How you gonna let go of a 4 door 67-72 Tahoe unless the money is outrageous?

Re: LFD's 4dr Burb Build
Taking shape! How do you like the proportions?

Re: LFD's 4dr Burb Build
Proportions look great, subscribed.
|
Re: LFD's 4dr Burb Build
Looks good from here! So you just moved the crossmember forward and cut the frame off in the back? Are you still planning to notch the frame or not?
|
Re: LFD's 4dr Burb Build
Proportions look perfect. That's the only way I'd have a Burb if it became a Tahoe...they look so much better IMHO. I know many love them full size and I'm sure the storage is awesome, but a bit too long to me.

Thanks guys! My wife (and I) want to check into re skinning the roof with a new flatter one off a different vehicle maybe with ribs or something. So I will get some dimensions and start roaming the parking lots;) Kevin LFD Inc. |

I think that sounds like a great idea. THe ribs will add strength and yet another subtle touch to set it apart. |
Re: LFD's 4dr Burb Build
I like it all, I just wouldn't have cut into the door.

Just looked through the whole thread. Your work is nice!

Re: LFD's 4dr Burb Build
Thanks J but unless your Tig welding has improved it will be awhile before help is needed but I do appreciate the offer. Now shouldn't you be putting your free time to better use on Lemon Drop?
Kevin LFD Inc. Yeah, But I feel the need to do something nice for someone, because my last attempt back fired and was spoiled by someone with a ME Complex. long story I will tell you later. And I need some inspiration to get back to work on lemon drop. |

Looks like youre wheelbase is a couple inches longer than Frizzle's and the back half is a few inches shorter. I like it....... but the more work you do to it the more I wont be able to afford it:dohh: |
Re: LFD's 4dr Burb Build
OK I can not even explain how happy we are with todays results. We did a 1/2" roof skin Chop! I removed the front two roof bows and trimmed them down just a bit. Then I reinstalled them and ended up with the new gap between the bows and the roof skin. After that I sliced the roof from the the front all the way back to the seam caused by the Tahoe chop and started re shaping and trimming until the Tahoe seam was just right. We stepped back and took a good look at it and loved the subtle results. Now I only have about 30+ feet of Tig welding to do and on to the next mod.
Kevin LFD Inc. Here you can see the 1/2" + off set between the front and rear and the high crown of the front. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b2...n/tahoe115.jpg Here you can see the one brace removed and the one replaced. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b2...n/tahoe116.jpg Now you can see how much had to be removed for the skin to but back together. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b2...n/tahoe117.jpg I tacked it with a Mig and will finish it up with a Tig for better results. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b2...n/tahoe118.jpg Nice and even. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b2...n/tahoe119.jpg Now the new look! Can you see the difference, maybe not but it sure looks right;) http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b2...n/tahoe120.jpg |
