Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
I think it's cool. How much weight? Is heavy hauling pretty much what you do?

I agree Tim..."Lorries" are beuatiful...
1950's Foden & Commer, two very common names on British roads up untill the 70's.. |
Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
I knew a Lorry and she was very beautiful . I always liked the British tru...,I mean, lorries because they were still styled like the '50s up to about '70...rounded. Don't forget Bedfords,Scammels, and ERFs. I had Matchboxes growing up and learned a bit about the lorries. Still have them, too. Even Ford and Dodge built trucks there that weren't available in the USA.
Nice lorries!!! BTW |

Heavy hauling/oversize loads isn't you're cookie cutter truck driving. It can be a real challenge,I bet.

Wow, small world, this is only a town away from me, I'll keep an eye out for this one.
Great collection of pics Tim, great to see so many old workhorses still in action. Only problem is I can't decide which is my favorite(if that's even a problem, lol) I love the early B-series Mack's and I love the Dodge Bison's, haven't seen one of those since I was a kid. Also been quite fond of Brockaway's as well... |
Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
I guess I go for the less known companies or the underdog. Brockways would be your local hero. We had a Mack plant in Hagerstown,MD that shut down and the main plant in Macungie,PA is not that far. Macks were so common place growing up that I took them for granted. They were always touted up,I figured mostly due to the mascot Bulldog icon. But,Mack really was a great company that built a full spectrum of trucks. I only knew them as common fleet trucks. When I went west and saw the long frame long hauler Peterbuilts and KWs I really caught the bug. Learning the history is really fascinating to me. I gotta say,I love the B Macks as much as the next guy.
Hey Powerdriver, foresight is right. And that's something that the average driver lacks out there (talkin' 4-wheelers). I guess you have to figure on dumb moves. I know I do just driving my 4-wheeler. |
