Re: LT1 GenV swap
Looks like I should have my pan soon. Being a shop we ordered
My pan through a distributor. Sounds like they have had the pan for some time and it took us calling then to get the order rolling again.... hope to see the pan sometime next week... |
Re: LT1 GenV swap
Glad to hear. Got around to the alternator bracket.. going to give this a try. Should work as there are other companies that offer setups like this
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/2498/1GJ6nL.jpg And keeps the vacuum pump... just need to reinstall it as i was testing out another bracket idea. Need to remake the power steering brackets to incorporate an idler instead of a tensioner... Clint |

Got my pan in last week too. Clearance is perfect for my Porterbuilt suspension. Just waiting on Holley's LT accessory drive now. Looks like a couple more months.

Re: LT1 GenV swap
Looks great. I have been very interested in doing an LT4 swap for my build as of late, but was initially put off by the cost of getting the front drive system setup. Looks like Holley and Dirty dingo are working on kits or have them already. Dingo said probably another few months for the LT4 stuff.
I'm assuming I'd need to run the Holley pan to clear my crossmember in the 66, since it's actually from an 85 pickup as well? Ever figure out how you'll get a tach signal and coolant temp from? I'd hate to have to rebuy gauges that pull from an OBD port since I have new speedhuts sitting in a box . . . |

Re: LT1 GenV swap
Random bag of spacers i found on the side of the street
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/9459/Tv4vs4.jpg Surprisingly they fit the passenger side alternator mount lile a champ! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/7348/idkeM8.jpg Used up all the random length bolts i could round up for mock up. Now just need to print the final template and cut it out on some 3/8 plate... Ill re-do the power steering plates later to incorporate an idler pulley for more crank belt wrap.. maybe un necesssry but why not.. Still need to sort out the motor mounts.. 3/8 plate to adapt gen5 to sbc... leaves a 1/4 inch or so between the booster and valve cover.. so tight, i cannot install the beauty cover With this setup, I can keep the vacuum pump and not have to worry about vacuum although i have 2 l83 manifolds and going to try something with one amd post the results of the test Clint |
Re: LT1 GenV swap
Last tweak and now im ready to cut them out. Needed to rotate the tensioner a few degrees now it can put the proper tension on the belt.

Crimping my way through it :)
Had to make a crimper for the insulation on the sealed connectors https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/7013/5roBCM.jpg Pic of the crimp looks like a pair of pliLGers squished it, but it's a factory looking crimp! Clint |

Engine harness routing.. pleased with it.

Mapped put the and mount tabs
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/2865/aeJJ8H.jpg Cut it shorter than it meeting the bracket and sprayed ashesive glue on another piece that was cut off from the template to get the correct angle of the dangle.. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/838/mw7Mgx.jpg (2nd Template removed) https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/9479/UBu5yp.jpg Final product ready to be glued to some plate and cut out https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/9319/N27OuM.jpg Slowly getting to the finish line... :) |
Re: LT1 GenV swap
Motor mounts checked off the list
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/6638/WkFx46.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/2651/Z3KEs0.jpg The 1st aluminum motor mount adapters turned put to be usefull. A heat sink/fixture to help prevemt the plate from warping. If I were to have used them and the stock 3bolt bracket, it put the valve cover wicked close to the brake booster. I lowered the motor enough to give the driveline angle about 3-4* and have the trans pan barely below the frame rail. Also keeps the vacuum pump and stock ac compressor. Win win.. When the motor comes out for the last time, I'll hit it with some paint. Clint |
Re: LT1 GenV swap
Nice work Clint. Looks like you're getting close.

Re: LT1 GenV swap
Slid the oil pan on for a few pictures.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/3797/mvDy18.jpg About 1 1/8 clearance https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/2963/XTbKrc.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/8775/lkY7PX.jpg 3/4 clearance.. if you have thse plastic covers painted with a factory booster.. you will scratch it going in. The plastic doesn't really show any scratch marks ... https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/6591/mZPmKV.jpg Trans pan below frame rail, approx 3-4* angle Clint |

Re: LT1 GenV swap
Alternator brackets finally done
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/1580/cskpvh.jpg Happens that a old BMW belt is exactly the right length for this setup w/o the idler.. be good enough to test it out. A/C... the factory sucrion hose line is a no go unless the frame is notched... a lot. The discharge side can work.. the sensor is kinda close to the frame.. maybe re work the line a little. Already drew up the suction adapter and waiting on the quotes to come in. I'll take a picture of that next time I install the compressor. |
Re: LT1 GenV swap
Had the a/c adapters printed up. The high side fits as good as its going to, but made it anyway. It a close to the motor stand... simple to grind and clearance it.. maybe reinforce it just cause... the new low side fits with tons of room...
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/9152/pNkt7T.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/3800/whxePo.jpg Just bent a scrap piece of tube to make it fit https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/1184/nnieLD.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/2329/7SouFU.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/8923/bi0ZXU.jpg The notch that's on the frame was from the LS low side ac line clearance. High side sensor needs to be relocated as its almost a 100% chance of separating the joint if it was to be twisted. More than likely, i will cut it at the sensor, install a new port and new fitting on the original line. I removed the tube from the original line... can be made to work. Just wanted to have another option. Also got the final power steering brackets cut out: https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/7949/9X91ft.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/6343/WQTHU9.jpg Need to make a trip to the autoparta store and pick up a few belts. Re: LT1 GenV swap
Decided to make the fuel pump ring adapter work. Drilled the OR ring off, marked and cut the center out with a jig saw. Marked and drilled the 8 holes. Going to use fuel safe sealant between the tank and ring once I test fit the tank in the truck.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/1977/eNOtIQ.jpg I bought this tank years ago for the 87, which has baffles for the efi... had to cut the raised section so the pump assembly would reach the bottom and be flat. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/4981/aRXCF5.jpg Factory o-oring https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/8734/yyvmFl.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/7328/lfrrjy.jpg Going to use the 5/16 vent line or emissions line as the aux tank fill connection. Dont have a solution for the stock sender yet, but shouldnt be to hard to attwch the stock level sensor to the plastic bucket. Clint |
Re: LT1 GenV swap
Did you measure the Ohms, open and closed on the existing sender?

Looks Great Clint! You are going to love this when you are done. I just got mine tuned by Pat G. here in Victoria. My fueling was all jacked up because of the intake tube I used. He fixed it and tuned the transmission as well, runs like a beast and will burn 35s like no ones business.

I just typed the right key words into the Google, found Speedway makes an interface module that can take any sender and output to any gauge up to 350 ohms iirc... I'll probably go this route since I plan to change the gauges to the dodge gauge cluster. Clint |

Re: LT1 GenV swap
Great work! I'm looking for more info on the compressor for the AC. I have a Gen 4 Magnum Vintage Air unit, just found out they do not make any brackets for the Gen V LT1 motor. I would like to mount it back in the original location as I have cut my center cross member on my 57 chevy, so lots of room.
My Vintage Air dealer suggested I use a fixed displacement compressor from a 2008 to 2010 LS block and modify the mounting brackets from there? Any other company making components for there AC systems? Thanks in advance. |

Re: LT1 GenV swap
Thanks 87chevy.com spoke to vintage air this afternoon, they told me that my Ac compressor from my 2015 Serria Denali 6.2 litre has a variable speed compressor, it will not work with any vintage air system. Vintage air must use a fixed displacement compressor?
Could you post more info about this, I believe Aaron is running a factory compressor as you stated or give me contact info? Really stuck for ideas, wanted to run all factory parts on this engine, just want to keep making progress on my install. Thanks in advance. |

Re: LT1 GenV swap
Just went through the whole thread, and got plenty of information. Thank you. I have a 2016 L83 with the 8L90, and looking forward to getting her wedged in to my 1992 single cab silverado. I just ordered the accessory bracket from DD, along with Sanden compressor and adapters for corvette water pump. I was also going to order the hydroboost brake booster, but just don't have enough information to pull the trigger. I was hoping to get you all's opinion. Thanks in advance for any information, and great thread.

Re: LT1 GenV swap
Take a look at a 2000GT ford Hydro boost or A Astro Van or maybe a 3/4T Chevy or GMC
