Is it difficult to turn the truck over to the customer after you finish the build when they turn out as good as this project did?Do all your builds wind up at Sema? |

Or it is just time to work on something different. |
Re: The 48 chevy truck Ironworks is building.
beautiful job, thanks for taking the time to document this build, and to answer the myriad of questions.
Could we please have some more interior pics? BR |

Man that is nice, from first glance you can't tell that you guys did that much chopping on it. Seems very proportional to a stock truck. I have been following it on here and on your web site. Very nicely done and you should be very proud.

Re: The 48 chevy truck Ironworks is building.
"gobsmaked" i'm going with that one !!
Now I know what the guys at the donut shop were talking about last Sat. That is going to be a hard act to follow, that one should put you in the "books" |
Re: The 48 chevy truck Ironworks is building.
You guy's are seriously putting Bako on the map!
Hell...I'll use it to. Frigging Gobsmaked!!! |
Re: The 48 chevy truck Ironworks is building.
Thanks Guys. We could not have done this kind work with out the customer being on board and involved like he was. We have another truck to get wrapped up for his Son-In-Law by late April. It's a 1960 Ford.
Thanks Again for the compliments. |
Re: The 48 chevy truck Ironworks is building.
I'd have to believe that that truck has just raised the bar several pegs in the custom truck world. I'd think that anyone preparing a truck in the same class at this season's indoor shows either just went into a panic attack or is getting the spies out to see where it will be shown so they can go somewhere else to show.
They work out of your shop is unreal and that truck shows that a radical custom doesn't have to look radical it just has to look perfect and it does. |
Re: The 48 chevy truck Ironworks is building.
There are no words, man. Just no words. This may very well be the single most beautiful custom truck I have ever seen.
At the risk of offending (NOT intended) what would something like this cost if I walked in off the street and told you I wanted you to build me an identical one (yeah, like I could ever afford one) Afterall, I do need something to dream of spending my dream Lotto money on! Maximum respect for your vision and your abilities. No exaggeration AT ALL, you are an artist, sir. Your medium is automotive sculpture. |
Re: The 48 chevy truck Ironworks is building.
That truck is a work of art. More like jewelery than a truck. My guess as to the cost, would go like this. Labor $50,paint$20,interior$10,wheels,drivetrain, all mechanical parts$40. Just a guess, if anything I'm short. Beautiful and an inspiration to us all.

VERY nice! Something for my own five window to aspire to. Thanks for sharing the pics!
P.S. - Is that front bumper custom or did it come from a car? I swear I've seen it before... |
Re: The 48 chevy truck Ironworks is building.
Its amazing what money can do! Nice truck!

Re: The 48 chevy truck Ironworks is building.
Thanks again Guys. The time that it takes to build this stuff is far beyond what anybody will really ever understand.
Just take the cab. It was chopped 1.5" and sectioned through the hood and doors 1.75" then at the same time the cab was lengthened 3" through the doors. That by itself is major work. Plus the window moldings had to be modified and the trimmed around the glass for those mods. Lengthening the cab is a lot of work in itself. You just have to understand it is not about the amount of money, it is about being able to pay the guys who do the work a livable wage and be able to pay for the equipment needed to do these tasks. Plus pay for Insurance and all other expenses required to just be able to do the work. OH and don't forget trying to run a business in the bankrupt state of California, They want to ding you for every damn penny they can. Then it is just a matter of how long it takes to do all the work and at what level of quality the builder is capable of and how nice the owner wants the truck . If you hack the truck together in a weekend it will never ever look and fit like this truck does. We did not start with a truck. We started with 3 cabs, 3 hoods, 8 doors, NOS long bed bed sides, NOS long bed running boards, and some front and rear fenders. The only parts on this truck that would bolt to a stock truck are the glove box lock and the front header in the bed which was turned around backwards. And maybe the gauges we bought from Classic Instruments. EVERYTHING else has been massaged and moved alot of a little. 75% of the work in this truck will go unnoticed by 99% of people even people who own this model truck. There are over 80 Body mods. Just body mods that does not include and rust or fitment issues. Just body mods. |

Re: The 48 chevy truck Ironworks is building.
That is why this is not just a truck. It is ART work that not just anyone can do. You have developed talent that most people do not have.
People that commission you to build a vehicle are not paying for your time. They are paying for your talent and expertise. Beautiful work. I just like to go through the pages of builds in your web site. It brings me motivation. |

Re: The 48 chevy truck Ironworks is building.
I may have said it before in the thread but the thing I like most about it is that although you have done close to 100 body modifications and all of the other detail items to it the truck hasn't lost it's original identity due to a demand for extreme body modifications or added items like they would have in the 70's and 80's for extra show points that only detracted from the finished vehicle. No scoops, louvers or added for effect items that don't belong there. No outlandish grill change or headlight change just to prove that it can be done. The chop is so modest that most won't notice it because the stretch and the section balance it perfectly. I'm well documented on here as not being a fan of the oversize billet wheels but you made them work in this case and they are part of the truck rather than big wheels stuck on it just because the cool guys have big wheels this year. The interior shows that it was done by one of the best in the country and again shows that class trumps outlandish every day of the week. If I sold everything I own I probably couldn't swing that interior but I sure can fantasize over one of that quality.
Will he be hitting the indoor show circuit with it in the North West? I drove to the Portland Roadster Show last year primarily to see Take out T but I would drive down again this year just to see that truck if it was going to be there. I'll be referring back to the build on this thread a bunch in the next few months when I try to figure out how you solved a problem so I can solve it on my own build. |
Re: The 48 chevy truck Ironworks is building.
AMAZING!!!! You guys just keep setting the bar higher with each project that rolls out of the shop. I put you guys in the same category as any of the big-name builders, such as Troy Trepanier, Alan Johnson, or Bobby Alloway. Incredibly talented artists. Can't wait to see what's next!
|
Re: The 48 chevy truck Ironworks is building.
Can't really put into words how awesome that truck is. Clean, smooth and shiny. Let's see how many magazines we'll see pictures of this truck in.
Great work. You set the bar so high, I need a telescope to see the darn thing! |
Re: The 48 chevy truck Ironworks is building.
Absolutely beautiful! This truck will leave people speechless! I tip my hat to you friend! Awesome job!!!

G'day, could you please tell me about the mods to the steering wheel?

That truck is even more stunning when you see it in person.
The build is great but seeing it finished in the GG setting yesterday kind of made my trip |
Re: The 48 chevy truck Ironworks is building.
I find myself coming back to this thread just to look (lust) over that truck. That's sculpture at it's finest. That's got to be the best looking, most well proportioned truck I've ever seen.
Can't wait to win the lottery so I can have something like that built, LOL. |
Re: The 48 chevy truck Ironworks is building.
We made our last stop on the West Coast tour from SEMA with the hauler at Del Mar this past weekend. We got our hat in the ring for one of those fancy tool boxes Goodguys gives out with the picture of your wining car or truck on it. What a cool trophy. We were able to get the first finalist position for the Goodguys Truck of the year (early) finalist for 2012. Frank and Mary were on cloud nine all weekend. The weather was amazing and the food was really good also. Not that we had much over the holiday....:unibrow:

Re: The 48 chevy truck Ironworks is building.
I saw this truck in person at Del Mar. I looked over this thread several times, but NOTHING prepares you for seeing it in person. Great job on this build, one of the nicest vehicles at the show. Are you guys taking the truck to the LA Roadster Show at Pomona in January?
