Re: 1961 Crew Max
Check out this guy. He cut his pan so he could get his engine lower in the frame. This may help you out with hood clearance issues.
http://www.norcal1320.com/forums/sho...1198095&page=8 I think he ended up going with a completely new sheet metal pan later on. |

Made a little progress through the weekend. had a friend bend up some pieces to replace the floor section between the doors. this piece also connects the b-pillar to the floor. lots of trimming to get it all to fit. going to wait on the middle till we fit the d-max. next comes the fun part of closing in the rockers.

Re: 1961 Crew Max
Any news? Looks like you are rolling along pretty well. Have you received the harness back yet? I am really interested in seeing how it turns out. Are you going delete the EGR physically from the engine or just install a block plate?
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Looking good man!!!!

Re: 1961 Crew Max
I have not sent the harness yet. I really want to make sure its going to work out before i spend the money on it. Not positive on the EGR delete yet.
Thanks justin for checking in. Went with porterbuilt on this build. Im sure we will do business again with parts or on another build. |

Quick update. got a really nice grill from a forum member. Also got a original paint tailgate at the portland swap meet a couple weeks ago. won a complete conversion to change the allison trans from 4wd to 2wd on E-bay. Also had a little time to do more floor work on the cab. Im on about week 6 since my order got placed with porterbuilt. They estimated 10-12. Thanks

Re: 1961 Crew Max
Sounds like a nice parts stash you're getting for it! Nice grill and tail gate too.

Well today I took a day off from the daily grind and headed out to my buddy bruce's shop to stretch the frame. We started with too long bed frames and stretched it a total of 30". Plated the inside and plug welded the outside. Sometime later we will box the section under the cab. Everything came together very good. Still waiting on porterbuild suspension to show up.

Re: 1961 Crew Max
Great progress for a day. That shop looks very well equipped!

Today got the cab sitting on the new chassie. Rockers came down about 15" from sitting on factory 3/4 ton frame. Everything lined up pretty good on new frame.Chizzler.

Today got started on fitting the motor. This thing is massive. Was able to get the crank pulley over the R&P by 1 1/2" and oil pan in back of R&P about the same. Everything is clear around the frame rails. Motor mounts will need to be relocated back farther. Oil filter will need to relocate. Both oil and trans pan are above bottom of frame rails. Most likely the entire recessed section of firewall will have to be all remade. You can see in the last pic how close the motor is to the top of firewall. Body still needs to come down about 1 1/2" to sit on cab mounts. Overall fit is pretty good to start.

Correction: What is the head mechanic doing with an Eagles shirt on? I will send him a Steelers shirt soon :) |
Re: 1961 Crew Max
