Re: 55-57 one piece windows
I'm glad Jared got the PDF file up and going. Mailing them out was getting pricey. and this way when people pull this up years from now it will still be helpful. I'm glad we did this, I know it would have saved me and dad alot of money if we could have found something like this acouple years ago. Let use know when someone gets it done. Or if you have ?'s about something just ask. Brian

Re: 55-57 one piece windows
yes, is there any place online a guy could order the window channel/weatherstripping needed to complete this project? or just your local glass shop? thanks guys, curious if brothers has caught wind of this yet..

Re: 55-57 one piece windows
I printed out the template. To cutting out all the little squares I put the paper on a glass surface and put a light underneath. It worked great, you could see right through the paper to lign up the crosses. It also give you a chance to fill in the lines instead of cutting the paper.
Cant wait to do the rest... even though it will be a while. |

Re: 55-57 one piece windows
no everything worked just like the video and the template its perfect no gaps nothing the only thing i did have a problem with is playing with the window so the window can slide i had to put it together take apart just get the window just right so it can slide and have room.

Re: 55-57 one piece windows
What did it end up costing you to get your glass cut and to get your track?
|
Re: 55-57 one piece windows
Ok, was at the NSRA meet today and found the vendor that I have bought the track and felts off of before. They said they would be glad to ship it any where. The place is called wheels of time in Philadelphia Ms. there web site is www.wheels-of-time.com . you will need 2-y528-96, 1-m123-96, and 1-mr172x-96 There catalog price is 35 bucks for the track, they were selling it at the show for 27, you might try to talk them down on it. There web site don't list the part # I gave, got them from there catalog, so you will have to call them.

man i just noticed that i never replied to you but yea it was way cheaper than buying an incomplete kit lol but i have a picture of the windows in.

Re: 55-57 one piece windows
Thank-you for all your hard work. You guys went above and beyond! I have a power kit from Brothers. Will your instructions change very much with the power kit? Will the standard height glass still work with a 2"-3" chopped top? I should be back working on mine in a month or so. Thanks guys.

Re: 55-57 one piece windows
anybody having problems with the stainless poping off the channel i done went though 3 sets no luck gettin expensive witch i used y630p from clean plus .....
|
Re: 55-57 one piece windows
You have to keep working the stainless for the end. It HAS to slide as you bend it. Thats why brothers sends you the non stainless channel. And I would say that spraying some silicone on it would help also.

Re: 55-57 one piece windows
great thread black diesel,
now i need to find a shop that can cut the glass |
Re: 55-57 one piece windows
Easy to find, let me know how it works out for ya

Re: 55-57 one piece windows
I just started working on my doors. It looks like there are some serious clearance issues if you want bear claws AND one piece glass. The space is limited but moving that rear track really puts the whole thing in a bind. I'm sure it's doable but I gotta get more vaseline...

Re: 55-57 one piece windows
Havn't ordered any latches yet, just looking at the small Autoloc latches. I wonder if the Brothers kit relocates the rear track the same way? There's just so little room there.
|
Re: 55-57 one piece windows
I think I see, they don't relocate the rear track and that's why the front has to be a free agent flopping around in the front. Man, I've see ford Fiestas with more room in the doors than these trucks!
|
Re: 55-57 one piece windows
Hey thanks blackdiesel for the email the other day..
one question, what about the latch? Does the track get in the way? Cory, |
Re: 55-57 one piece windows

If push comes to shove, you can leave the rear where its at and move the track in the front forward to compensate for the adjustment thats necessary for the window to roll up and down. This way it will leave room for bear claw latches or whatever. Cory, the way we shown in the video does not affect the original style latches what-so-ever. no further modifications are necessary to replicate this setup. About a month ago (when i got my truck finished... for the 3rd time) i was not satisifed with the way the doors latched. My gaps are good but you just had to slam them to get them to latch. i ordered a new set of original latches and strikers from classicparts.com and my doors *click* like a new truck. And at a quarter of the price, its a no-brainer in my book. |
Re: 55-57 one piece windows
Thats good, figured I missd that part..
I ordered new latchs from classic also..They close great now, fixed that nasty gap at the top to. Working on the cab now, then I'll get to the doors.. |
Re: 55-57 one piece windows
I've had good luck so far with my kit from classic truck glass.
|
Re: 55-57 one piece windows
I was wondering about that kit, does it stablize the front track?
|
Re: 55-57 one piece windows

I didn't have anything to do with the design or testing. I only host the files. All the design credit goes to BlackDiesel and Grimss

Re: 55-57 one piece windows
Hi! gee, this thread is awesome~ I'm just now learning about the one piece glass install. I just came back from my garage and found out my drivers side has nothing regarding the glass/regulator/ the channel is still in place(thank goodness), and I do have the vent frame out of the door, but the passenger side is still complete and intact. Should I go ahead and buy new window regulators anyway.
I'm just now searching for a place to cut my glass(here in Houston, there should be a place), just the tempering portion I'm not sure of. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ee/liftkit.jpg |

Re: 55-57 one piece windows
Howdy window guru dudes! I have printed the templates and makimng the decoy was a breeze....I have a relationship with the local glass guy and am getting two light green tinted pieces cut polished and tempered for $130.00.
So i have read all the issues with the stainless window tracks and maybe i missed it but i wonder, do you have to use the stainless or did you just like it? I would rather not have the shiney on mine anyway. Anyone have a sorce or part # for just a regular black one? Thanks for any help you can give |
