Hey guys I have'nt posted in a while been busy with different things. I had the opportunity to build my first set of stainless headers for a friend of mine.He built a 55 chevy with a 454 and a tremec 5-speed, it also has a rack and pinion so buying headers that would fit was out of the question. Here are a few pics.Attachment 1121826

Finally had a chance to get some work done on the truck, I sent it out and had everything blasted, most of the major rust repair has been done so now I will get it in epoxy and start with the body work,I've got two new door skins that look really nice but seeing how they fit will be another story. Well I hope to make some progress in the near future. Thanks for looking.

Re: SANFORD build thread
glad to see you got some time to get back on your truck, always such nice work

Re: SANFORD build thread
this is a very nice build... textbook approach with tons of skills. hanging on for the bodywork but with what you've shown, it should be no problem for ya...
looks really good. |
Re: SANFORD build thread
Thanks a bunch guys, Everyone on here really has something to bring to the table. I follow along with almost every build and it really is cool to see the different ideas and skills that people use doing these things. I was hoping to make the Power Tour but it was'nt meant to be but I am to the point now that I am not going to cut corners and it will take however long it takes. Thanks for looking.

Re: SANFORD build thread

Time for an update, had a lot of other things going on but I am still making progress. I have gotten the passenger side door skin on and curently getting all the door gaps set, I am also doing rough bodywork as I go so I can get primer on it while working each area. I know that is not typically how things are done but it helps me from getting overwhelmed and also I dont know when I may have other things to work on in between. Here are a few pics, Thanks.Attachment 1141867

Re: SANFORD build thread
I was doing some catching up on this awesome build tonight and I noticed you are running a 2bbl carb?
|
Re: SANFORD build thread
Very clean work as usual!

Re: SANFORD build thread
Capt I plan on starting out with the 2 brl to hopefully get good mileage hoever I do have a 600 edelbrock. I will put it on a chassis dyno once it is up and running to tune it for optimum fuel mileage and we will try both carbs to see which on has the best driveability and mileage.

Re: SANFORD build thread
Awesome build! Love the way you ran the rear brake line/flex hose, well thought out mod. The sheetmetal work looks great, door gaps are very even and tight! I'll be keeping up with progress, can't wait to see more!

Thought I would post an update, not a whole lot going on but I am about 80% complete on the passenger side door and fender fittment and well into it on the drivers side, It is very time consuming to get these door gaps and fittment like it should be. I have an extra frame that I am going to mount the body to and finish all the body work then I will start the painting process. Hopefully after the holidays I will be able to make a little more progress on it. Tha last pic is a project I started for a friend of mine a couple years ago, it has been sitting since the economy tanked but I think he is ready to get back on it when I get this truck finished. Thanks for looking.Attachment 1177675

very nice work. definitely inspiring detail in those gaps. ton of work...

Re: SANFORD build thread
Awesome build. Your body work skills are top notch. Do you mind me asking what tool you are using to go to bare metal? It looks like you get very good results with it.

Re: SANFORD build thread
Thanks guys for the kind words. bj I had the body sandblasted and then sprayed with epoxy primer, when I get ready to work an area I have a 90 degree die grinder with a 2" roloc 36 grit disc. Body work on this truck has really worn me down as it is so time consuming but I just keep working a little along and maybe one day it will be finished. Thanks Guys.
|
Re: SANFORD build thread
Thanks for the info. I was guessing a die grinder but didn't know what kind of disc. Will be buying some and trying them out. Been using a wire cup brush on an angle grinder along with a 60 grit abrasive disc. Very tiresome. I just got a new air compressor that will actually run tools. 90* Die grinder is on the list.

Re: SANFORD build thread
at the rate your going I bet I will see this at the spring rod run in pigeon forge, great work.
|
Re: SANFORD build thread
Thanks Flip, probably 2015 I cant seem to keep other stuff from creeping in.
|
Re: SANFORD build thread
Progress is coming along nice and the truck is looking great. Looking forward to more updates.

Re: SANFORD build thread
love your work!

Re: SANFORD build thread
I REALLY like this truck! I'm blown away at your attention to detail, and how you look at every aspect of the truck and make it better than before. Things like the upper A-arm mod, the brake line routing, and the door gaps are the stuff that I really enjoy. Also, you're a man after my own heart.....I love the big/little wheel and tire combination.
You are going to have one awesome truck when it's done. |
Re: SANFORD build thread
Thanks so much guys,I watch everybody's thread and love seeing all the great ideas people have.
|
Re: SANFORD build thread
Getting the gaps done now is how I did it. However once you install seals all bets off and you still get to move it all around. I am now removing the softseal for new door seal on the drivers side. I am going with steel seal and done with it. Truck is done and I hate the way the door sits out due to the seal.
|
Re: SANFORD build thread
you are right about the seals but i have a spare set that I tape in place when I get to the final point to keep everything in place. I bet after it is painted and the seals are glued in place I will definitely still have to do some tweaking.
