Re: 52 Project
That's really looking good Bernie!!!
|
Re: 52 Project
Thanks Bernie,
I will look through the pieces i have and take a inventory if what is missing!! Is the toe board part of the floor kit or the firewall kit? |
Re: 52 Project
Thanks Tex, maybe someday we can get together with these trucks.
Solid, The toeboards are part of the floor kit. There are 12 pcs in the floor kit and 2 support brackets. The inner cowl panels we got from Brothers, but I don't know if you were asking about them. I have different names for parts sometimes...lol. Bernie |
Re: 52 Project
Thanks Bernie, I looked at all of the pieces that I have and they are all there!!! The two angle pieces that you talked about are they different shapes, one is 90* and the other is about 60* is that correct?
|
Re: 52 Project
You are correct. You will see once you start how they go. Also look at this site, he does a great job of explaining how to do this install. I actually ordered this from him so that I could have it in the shop while I was doing the install.

Re: 52 Project
Thanks, I guess I better start with some more re-worked door hinges!!!!
Then find the set of doors I am going to use, boy. I am a long way from starting on the floor after reading that article, at least I have some idea where the pieces fit!! |
Re: 52 Project
After reading that floored article I like your photography better Colored!! Did you have trouble with your doors fitting when you were finished ?
|
Re: 52 Project
I took me a while to get the doors the way I wanted them. I am still not sure they will fit perfect but at least they close and seem to have proper gaps. I only fitted them when I had the floor screwed in. I am pretty sure that they will work but it may still take a little massaging to get them the way I want them. If you need any other pictures let me know and I will see what I have. All I did today was grind welds and I am still not completely done but got tired...lol.
Bernie |
Re: 52 Project
those doors are a nightmare i had to rotate the entire door clockwize just so the body lines lined up! then grind the crap out of the edges that touch reweld them and regrind them. they now line up as close as i can get them. i probably have 20 hours in each door
good luck |
Re: 52 Project
Yeah the body lines don't do so well. I have looked at several of these trucks and I don't think that very many of them line up too well. It seem that the line at the rear of the door doesn't match but at the front it looks ok. I was thinking about doing the same thing you did once I get to refining the body work.

Ok so I finally finished grinding all the welds on the floor. I still have a few touch up areas that need welding. I have been working on it for the past couple of weeks but I didn't think you guys wanted to see pictures of me grinding...lol. Anyway here are a couple of the finished floor and one of the motor setting getting ready to go....:metal: . We are waiting on the radiator setup to come in so that I can finish locating the motor. Once we get the done then I can box the frame and install the new crossmember. Hopefully all the frame stuff will be done then and we can get it painted and start on the body work. Enjoy.

Re: 52 Project
572...:metal:
lookin good!! |
Re: 52 Project
Wow....I wanted to go 572 but I had to maintain my sanity...........I really want to see the finished product............great job
|
Re: 52 Project
Ok I fibbed a little...lol. Those are just 572 valve covers for now. It is a 454 that we are going to be putting some Aluminum heads on and some other fun parts. I don't see where the bigger motor would hurt anything though:rolleyes:  . Maybe some day after we get it running and driveable.

Re: 52 Project
The floor pan is looking really nice Bernie! Keep up the good work.

Re: 52 Project
Thanks Cal, It turned out better than I expected. Sometime you can even surprise yourself:) .

Hey Guys I actually got something done today...lol. Check out this brake pedal/booster mount that I got in today. I still need to build some gussets and finish welding it in but at least I got something done today.:metal: Also there is a picture of one of the seats that we are going to use and a picture of the battery box from Brothers. The seats will probably be cut down but we still have some time to decide on that. Enjoy.

Re: 52 Project
I've never seen that before. Clean work.
|
Re: 52 Project
Along with Daniel, I've never seen that before too. I like the idea though. Was that a kit or did you come with that yourself?
|
Re: 52 Project
Along with Daniel and Cal 58 on this one. I have never seen this before. How are you goin to plumb your brake lines? Through the lower firewall or floor? It is kind of slick though.
|
Re: 52 Project
No I didn't come up with the myself...wish I had though...lol. It came from Kugel Komponents. I saw it on Webrodders and dad thought it would work good on his truck. I decided to take this week off work and it has rained every day so not much work is getting done. I did get the shop cleaned up a little and got some work done on the Camaro so it hasn't been a total waste of time. We are waiting on the radiator to come it so that I can get the motor placed in the proper position and then thing should progress a little quicker. I did get the booster mounted and braced. I am planning on building a console so the brake lines will be run under that and through the floor. The only concern I have is the A/C unit but I am guessing that I can make that work too. Here is the link to Kugel

Re: 52 Project
Interesting method to do the m/c but I got to ask: how on earth do you check/fill the reservoir? Are you planning a remote reservoir for that?
|
Re: 52 Project
Originally I suggested a remote fill M/C but he went with this one. I think we can fill it no problem. I think the big opening area right in front of the M/C is a vent panel so I might be able to make that a fill panel????? If not I guess it will be mirrors and long skinny arms...LOL.

We got the radiator in this past week and I spent today getting it installed. Man it looks great. I am really impressed with it and the quality of it. Hopefully now the progress will be a little quicker. Plan is to get the motor in it's proper place next weekend and then box the frame. Once that is done then we can paint it and start reassembly. And then onto body work. Check out these pictures.

Re: 52 Project
That is looking real sweeeeet...................who is the radiator made by? Is that the condensor attached to the front? Really looks like a well made piece.
|
Re: 52 Project
It is a very nice piece. The quality is outstanding and the best customer service I have delt with in a long time. You can order it any way you want, we got it with the electric fan and shroud, the condenser and all polished plus we ordered a cap to go along with it. Here is a link for them.

Re: 52 Project
Update: I spent the day yesterday moving the motor only to figure out that I need to move it back about an inch:( . We were trying to use an HEI but it is going to be too tight. I have an MSD Distributor that is going to be pressed into service now. The only drawback is that we have an extra box to mount. We were trying to keep things simple...lol. I took a couple pictures but they are boring. I will give it a try again next weekend and if nothing else I will notch the firewall a little, I really don't want to do that but if I have to I will. Anyway just a quick note.

hey i love that radiatior who did you speak to at prchotrod? i think i need the exact same setup..
Thanks GT |
Re: 52 Project
we always deal with the owner at prc but a guy named shawn is who I just ordered my rad. from...

Re: 52 Project
I talked to John. He was great, I had several requests and he meet everyone of them. Like I wanted the fan mounted as far up as possible because I knew that is was going to be close to the water pump and he said no problem. The cool thing is every thing is separate so you can only order the parts you need. We got everything at once because I had a lot of fitting I needed to do. I am going to go back with them for my Camaro radiator. It comes with the mounting brackets separate so you can move it any where you want to. I actually cut out the X brace and had to do some notching on the core support but had no problems getting it where I wanted to. If you have any questions or need anymore pictures let me know and I will try and help you.

Re: 52 Project
yea I got the new fan controler and everything because I've heard my LS1 will run much better with it, Im not sure though. I cant wait for it to come in, haha

Cajun, I am guessing you ordered one? I think you will be pleased. Let me know if you need anything when you get it.
I finally got the motor where I wanted it today but is really tight up against the firewall so I am going to build a notch for the firewall to make sure it doesn't hit while we are driving it. I already have a plan to use some exhaust tubing to make the cutout so I am hoping that will so the job. Her are a couple pictures of the motor and the distributor. Also I got the sub frame on the camaro today so I will throw in a picture of that also...lol. Bernie |
Re: 52 Project
Hey pgf545,
I met your son today at a local car show, what a good kid or I should say young man. He told me about his Grandfather and how he worked at NASA. And your grandson, what a happy little guy he is. You must be one proud Dad and Grandpa! Anyway it was really nice to meet him. If you end up coming back to Lemoore to visit it would be a pleasure to meet you. |
Re: 52 Project
Cal, Thanks for the kind comments. I haven't seen the grandbaby since March but he will be coming for a visit in mid Sept. Daniel said that they had a good time and really enjoyed meeting you and how nice you were. He sent me a couple of pictures of your truck. Hopefully we are coming for Christmas and will be staying a week or so. If I make it I will let you know.

Re: 52 Project
pgf545,
I am restoring a 1949 GMC and I am unsure about where to mount my motor mounts that I have purchased. I was wondering if you had a picture of your frame that shows the IFS Clip and Motor Mount clearly? This is the type of mount I purchased and of course has no instructions...perhaps I am thinking too much! http://www.speedwaymotors.com/pl/122...or-Mounts.html |
Re: 52 Project
I will have to look when I get home to see what I have. If I don't have anything I will take some this weekend and post them. I agree with you on the thinking too much, I do the same thing. I actually postition the motor where I wanted it and then tacked the mounts in. There is not a whole lot of wiggle room but it is going to work.
Bernie |
Re: 52 Project

This is the closest thing I could find for you. It is kinda hard to see the motor mounts but I will take a few more this weekend, if we don't get flooded...lol. I have already taken the motor out so the pictures will be clearer of the mounting tabs.
