Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Hey Gary, just happened to run across your build. Everything looks pretty nice, have any progress on the truck lately.

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
It's in paint jail right...... "LOL". They're make progress but slowly. He is working on it in between insurance jobs. Cab, doors and the front clip are almost done being aligned, primed and block sanded. Should have some color soon.
I need to either get a bigger garage or lower the truck some. My door is only 6'6" ..... I can get a 7' in, but I think I'm going to remove the 4" lift and put in a 2" and sell the 4". Between doing both it should fit in ! Gary Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Good to hear your truck is still progressing. Have you narrowed down to what color your going with?

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Green and white 2 tone. That's what it was originally. I like the orange and white just as much but the originality of the green and white won-out !
The green will be med olive metallic. Code 502 I believe. |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Jaros;
A 33 pounder anywhere in the lower 48 is a respectable fish !!! It took me 2 trips to Alaska to catch a 50. There getting hard to come-by even up there. The big netters just out side the mouth of the rivers are decimating the runs. On the Kenai they have emergency limits or even shut down the sport fishing if the runs are too small. Last yr if I caught that fish I'd have to have let it go, 55" or bigger to keep it. Anyway a 50 pound fish was my goal to have one mounted, and I got it !!! Now I have to find a wall big enough for it ! "LOL" My girl friend hates the damn thing, so I told her she needed to be careful or she may end up next to it ! "LOL" |

Thanks Guys !
No.... Can't divorce her if I don't marry her ! I told her I'd have her head on one side of the wall and her, well you know, on the other ! Just joking, she's good, we get along good and she helps with everything !!! Even spitting and stacking firewood ! |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )

Ive spent 25-30 years fishing the salmon river, lots of fun trips. That 33 pounder was a female loaded with eggs, she was just to beautiful to keep, so i let her go. Boy, but what a fight and thrill she gave me. 10 1/2' 8 weight Sage rod that i was just learning use, seems that i was getting to good at catching fish on my noodle rod, so my boys made me switch over to fly gear:lol: Only mounted one fish in all the years, and it is a 17 pound steelhead, caught in feb. and it was 6 degrees, my new personal record for temperature. Hes on my wall in my workshop, and reminds me of all the great fishing trips ive had over the years.... Sorry for my long winded response, but it is my second passion in life, right behind these rusty old trucks. Maybe someday well be able to swap fishing stories over a beer Looking forward to your progress reports on your truck |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
A 17 lb steal head is no slouch either ! We caught some great rainbows, 30+ inches, and the bears.... OMG !
If you want send me a pm with your email address and I'll send you some pics. Gary Posted via Mobile Device |

JMHO, but, if there were bears around, id have to give them the fishing rights to that hole...lol My rule of fishing is....never try to catch a fish that is bigger then the boat youre in, and NEVER try to take a fishing hole away from a fisherman (bear) that is bigger then you PM sent |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Thanks for the pics,....yep, you made me envious. Nice colors on that rainbow, even red up in the cheeks
Look at all the gravel beds, know wonder they reproduce so well Was that one pic of the 50? |

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
I'll post up some more pics when I'm at home, just doesn't work here at work.
Yes that was the 50 pounder. We had to leave a few fishing holes because the owner of the hole ( Big Bear ) kicked us out !!! "LOL" Some were showing signs of aggression and it gets a little unnerving when an 800 lb plus bear is pissed at you !!! :sumo: |

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Stopped at the body shop on my way home from work yesterday to drop off some parts & check up on progress. Some progress but not a whole lot. Then one of the body guys says take a look at what I bought yesterday. He shows me his pickup loaded with brand new goodmark 67-72 parts. ( He is redoing hid step fathers truck ) He found the parts on Craigslist: 2 SWB bedsides, 2 doors, tailgate, head board, 2 front fenders and a cowl. The guys was asking $1,200 for everything. He offered him $500 and he took it. OMG what a score, I couldn't believe it !!!

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
After three years of waiting for my truck to be finished in between insurance jobs in the body shop, I pulled it. Rediculous!! I finally got the truck back in a new body shop this week. Over 6 months after pulling it and doing the 20 plus bodyshop tour, things seems to be looking up. Hopefully these guys do a good job for ya. My truck, like yours had almost no rust. Rare indeed. Congrats on a solid foundation. I didn't have to replace a single panel. Just a little metal work. Watch out for the guys that will tell ya, "it doesn't take long to get 150 hours in
filler work!" Chassis is looking great btw. That Epoxy primer is tough stuff. Chris |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Hey Chris;
I hear ya and I hope it doesn't turn into paint jail... I don't think it will, I know the guy prety well, he lives 300 feet from me, and has a realy good business. I stop in there about twice a week and there's usually some progress. As long as it keeps move, I'm OK with that. I have a lot of house projects going on to keep me busy. One is going to be installing a taller garage door so I can get the truck in once it comes back... "LOL" Gary |

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Ya, I put a 4" lift on the truck, now I'm thinking I'll remove that and put in a 2" and put a 7 foot door in my garage. ( The gargae is under my house, and has 6'6" door ) What was I thinking. This truck needs to be garaged, it won't be living out side in the winter !!! "LOL"

We have our first color !!!! It's only the white on the roof of the cab but it's color !!! It will probably be a week or so before anything else happens, due to my body guy being at the lambrecht 500 car auction out in Nebraska !!!

Some projects get all the autobody luck!
Lookin good. |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Awesome, paint looks outstanding!! Gary. Your moving at a pretty good pace now. What brand is the cowl hood? I really want one just haven't seen one fit without some modifications. Does it line up pretty good?
|
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Thanks guys !!! I'm Psyched ..... Check back in soon there will be more pics coming soon..... Nose will be getting assembled, glass going in, trim installed...
Then all the bed stuff... The only questionable part is the bed floor. I have a solid metal floor but it's bent & dented. He's going to work on it some to determine if it's worthy of this build, if not then I have to decide if I go wood or metal ? Then I have to get my butt in gear, sooo much to do !!! My goal is to have it on the road next summer |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
The cowl hood came from Brothers, not sure who made it. It fit pretty well, but he did do some work on it. Had to pull one side out in the front so it would line up better with the grille. He also cut the cowl piece ( the part the windshield wipers arms pass through ) this piece had to be made a bit narrower so the body lines matched up.

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Thanks Gary, sounds like you got a great body man for the job.
|
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
He's conscientious and wants it done right. He's making the body lines better than they were from the factory. I was amazed at how far off the original rocker panels were. They set back about 1/4" from the cab corners & doors. Only one rocker needed to be replaced but I had him do the other side because of the alinement. He also spot welded back on just like the originals.
