Moving along in the paint department. Got some of the interior shot, and the rest sanded, ready for primer. Last piece of metal installed under the driver's door, unfortunately a poorly timed rain storm caused a little surface rust..no big deal.

Well it keeps moving along...the interior is looking so nice...

Was supposed to get the new windshield in, but the installer got rained out. Scheduled for tomorrow. Also got in the new window rubber for the rear cargo doors :metal:

Re: 1960 GMC Suburban

Well I set up to have the new windshield installed, made sure they knew what year and type of glass it was. They said they would send an experienced installer. I even had two new windshields installed in my other vehicles at the same time. When it came time to do the Jimmy, he looked at it and walked away and left.

I didn't want to make a big deal about it since I don't want somebody who isnt 100% doing it. Working on a plan B.

good job!

Re: 1960 GMC Suburban

So far plan B has cost me $175.00 and the "expert" hasn't installed it yet. Can't afford a Plan C. Considering making the thing a dang convertible....with a good pair of sunglasses...

KIC 10-15-2011 11:24 PM

Re: 1960 GMC Suburban

10-day update..still no windshield. Even the town "expert" wants to have 4 people there to install...and it ain't happened yet...bummin' me out over this stupid windshield issue.

Re: 1960 GMC Suburban

i spent 4 hours just trying to get the gasket on the glass and gave up!!!!! send them to me when they come! lol

KIC 10-16-2011 05:53 PM

Re: 1960 GMC Suburban

It seems the quality of the gasket really makes the difference. I bought mine from LMC and the first guy that walked away didn't like the gasket. After he left we tried to get the gasket on and couldn't do it. But I also have the chrome trim. The 2nd "expert" said he had to order his own or he wouldn't do it. So I guess I wasted $40.00 on the LMC gasket.

Now...if I could only get the freakin thing installed.

dthela 10-16-2011 10:41 PM

Re: 1960 GMC Suburban

gasket had a slot too small for glass to fit in, and was very stiff, i have to order another one too!

Finally got it installed....woohoo....one small step in the great big picture...one big leap in the daily grind....

Hey guys
I finally found out the brand of gasket the guy used that worked. He said that it is the best one that is used by commercial installation companies. It is called PRECISION BRAND gasket.

Thanks for the info. That is the same brand that most guys here on the forum say is the best brand window rubber/gasket to get.

KIC you have a part number? I have the website but it's seems to be a generic front page, no way to search for parts with out calling.

Cord, nothing going on. The thing is at a stand still. Money is too tight. Trying to figure out how to finish it, but the priorities seem to knock it lower and lower. :waah:

Here is one of my "Grand" priority: :metal:

Cool! What color?

KIC 10-27-2013 11:46 AM

Re: 1960 GMC Suburban

The original color scheme. White and the dark green bottom. I am not painting the roof the original dark green due to Arizona heat factors. But my Dad painted the roof white after moving here in 1960, so it has had a white roof all my life until hit just faded off from the sun and sitting around. . The closest I could find we was either the Centauri Green 7666 or the Delta Green – 41792 and using Olympic White 8269. We are going with with the Delta Green:

Here is a cool link for paint colors: http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcod...?ditzler=41792

Just pick the manufacture and the year(s)

I am not sure if my original green was Hemlock or Delta, so I went with Delta since it seems to have a little more "pop"

Still getting a little closer. The body work keeps getting better and better... finished the repair of the rear tail light. Hoping to have it painted by the end of the month.. and how many times have I said that ...??

Well we are getting closer. Almost all the body work is totally complete. The final sanding is complete and all that is needed is some minor touch up and then PAINT. The sides are SO straight... My friend doing the body work just kept working them. Using a straight edge in all directions shows it doesn't have any waves and is straight.

These pictures are a week before it was all complete, but close...getting closer..getting excited about it....:metal:

Still working on it. Just keep finding lil nicks and imperfections that we can't get past. So we keep sanding and priming and sanding. Did run into a problem..as I was taping up the front grill area I noticed that the hood that had already been painted and clear coated was rusting in the seem area. That really sucks.

Kic,

I hate to see that happen to you, your build is one I am following and it has gotten me back in the hurry up and finish itch. The painter who is doing my truck used seam sealer in every crack and seam he and I could find. I'm in south Louisiana and is super humid.

If you finding yourself having repaint it, use the seam sealer.

The seam sealer is a 3-M product.

Has it been stored outside this whole time? Even if it has, being that you're from AZ, I wouldn't think that would happen so fast.

KIC 07-08-2014 11:30 PM

Re: 1960 GMC Suburban

Yes, unfortunately it has been outside this whole time. If you look back you can see the several times that it was down to bare metal and it was rained on. So i'm guessing that there was rust in the seams that we didn't see and was trapped under some primer. Probably end up stripping and re-spraying the hood.:waah:
