Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Thanks guys! Here are a few little details on how we mounted it.
We made a couple base plates to mount the bumper to the winch mount and added a couple gussets to hold it in place. http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3416.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3419.jpg We had planned on one gusset on each side, but after seeing it mounted up we had to do two. http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3427.jpg Now comes the part I was excited to see... fitting the fairlead. We mocked it up on the bench, torched out the space, and after sliding it in a couple times we got the fit we wanted. http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3421.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3425.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3430.jpg We now needed recovery points... Like always, we played with a bit of cardboard before we decided on the design we thought would look/work best. We torched them out of some 1"x4" cold rolled and after a bit of smoothing had these... http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3441.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3434.jpg |

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Alright, well the bumper ended up having more flexibility in it than we wanted so we added a few gussets to the back side.
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3457.jpg We took all the paint off the bumper, sandblasted the radiator support to get ready for the brace work on that, and trimmed the grill support fro some clearance we needed. http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3551.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3510.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3506.jpg |
Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
I really never liked the cross bars in the radiator support so we decided to cut them out and put gussets in instead. My dad also welded up most of the seams
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3530.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3531.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3533.jpg We wanted a stronger base the the radiator support so we reinforced the bottom channel a little bit http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3535.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3543.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3546.jpg |
Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
With all this done, it was time for body mounts...
I wanted something different since there was so much space to fill http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3552.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3569.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3581.jpg We added the top plate then pulled it off to weld it up and add the back plates http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3590.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3592.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3599.jpg Then we made some reinforcing washers for the spring hangers and my dad welded them on http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3598.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3597.jpg |

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
The fabrication is awesome!! You have some excellent ideas and craftsmanship to go with it.
Can you tell me what kind of fitment you have were the exhaust pipes meet the collectors? And btw, are you going to fill all the holes in that bumper with some running lights? |
Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Looks like your liks are bad. Do you have a photo bucket account or the like so I can see your pictures?

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
It's looking good, But please tell me you had some protection on while blasting. That dust can do some nasty stuff to the lungs.

Stop whtever you are doing right now and pat yourself on the back man ! What a great looking, exciting and interesting build !
Keep it up man !!! |
Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Thanks guys! My dad got the clevis mounts drilled out to 15/16" and welded up (they were 7/8 but that was too small for my clevises).
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3613.jpg I've been pulling the front clip off and on constantly for the last couple months so once we get some warm weather we'll prime and paint the front plate and put it on for good so hopefully i won't have to see her like this anymore. http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3602.jpg |
Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
We got the winch mount primed, painted, and put back on for the last time. (hopefully) We went ahead and put the winch, fairlead, and clevises back on also to finish it all up.
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3635.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3644.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3645.jpg Here is a shot with the core support bolted up, we are using early jeep body bushings to mount this and the bed. http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3662.jpg And now the time has come to take the cabs to our body man. With the help of a couple buddies we got the cabs out of the garage and loaded up on the truck last night, this morning we dropped them off at the shop where all the work will be going on at. http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3658.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3664.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3671.jpg |

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Rustoleum Professional primer for light-medium rusted metals and then a Rustoleum professional Gloss Black. Available at your neighborhood Home Depot Lol. It stays on great and is easy to touchup if it does scratch.
