Re: Grandma's '72 Cheyenne LWB Half Ton
Thanks to all who've looked through this thread and replied. It's been a VERY slow build, lots of roadblocks, project from he!!, but it's getting done the way I wanted--everything stock. Just as though it was sitting on the showroom floor in '72. And yes, Joel has an eye for detail and amazing talent. I knew this from the start since he did the restoration on my Camaro. If everything goes as planned, we'll show the truck at the Super Chevy Show in Memphis in April. It's no big block or short wheel base bed, and doesn't have all the fancy wheels or chrome, but it's what my Grandmother bought new in '72, and left to me, that counts. Even after all the problems, I'm glad I decided to restore it. Thanks guys, Casey

Re: Grandma's '72 Cheyenne LWB Half Ton
Thanks, guys. This truck has really tested my patience, but it looks like the end is very near. The front cap goes on this week and I'll get some pictures as soon as it's on.
I just wonder how this would stand up in the truck of the month if we decided to enter it? Can one of the moderators instruct me how to enter? Even with all the headaches, I'm so glad I decided to restore this truck. I know my Grandmother in heaven is watching (and maybe wondering, "Why in the heck did he do all that to that old truck :) ) |
Re: Grandma's '72 Cheyenne LWB Half Ton
Here's the latest pictures of the restoration. Not bad for an old farm truck! The project has surely lightened my pockets up :D

Re: Grandma's '72 Cheyenne LWB Half Ton
Thanks, Jeff and Lee. This truck is so "original" I even had the A/C system rebuilt with R12 refrigerant, by Classic Auto Air in Tampa, FL. Those 14 oz. cans of R12 are getting very hard to find...and expensive. I could have went with R134, but like I said, I wanted an original all the way with this restoration.

Re: Grandma's '72 Cheyenne LWB Half Ton
Is that an original steering wheel or aftermarket? I need to get one for mine too.
|
Re: Grandma's '72 Cheyenne LWB Half Ton
This truck is turning out awesome! I actually love the fact that it's a LWB, the color combo and the trim just looks perfect as a LWB. I bet you can't wait to start driving it.
|
Re: Grandma's '72 Cheyenne LWB Half Ton
Jeff - That's an aftermarket steering wheel. I still have the original, but, not to my liking. I'd love to find an original in mint condition (wouldn't we all?)
I plan not to drive this truck at all except for local shows only. Too much money at stake! |
Re: Grandma's '72 Cheyenne LWB Half Ton
You may want to run it once in a while when not being driven.

Looks good! Also looks like you're missing the trim above the tailgate handle. :mm:

Re: Grandma's '72 Cheyenne LWB Half Ton
That's one to be proud of.......I'm sure you're glad to have it home.
