Re: 1992 GMC Sierra C1500 Shortwide DD/Project
Added tow hooks to the front today:

Re: 1992 GMC Sierra C1500 Shortwide DD/Project
Well, I've got a few updates on my truck. First, I put a new rotor on the left front spindle, so that I have 5 studs again instead of 4. Also, swapped out my back windows. Put in windows that don't have louver covers on them. And on top of that, I put my toolbox in the bed and gave the truck a bath.
Now for the pics. I've never taken photos way in the back pasture of our property so I thought I'd do so. http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...71332409_n.jpg http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...18441423_n.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...22730595_n.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...47248911_n.jpg http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...37615611_n.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...10499000_n.jpg |

Here's our uh...parts supply  I do apologize about the dirty Green F##d in the middle. I made my money back on parts and it'll be turned into a Toyota when I haul it in for scrap
Also, in here is a black Z71. Which will be stripped down and prepped as my '92 is going to become a Z71. |
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra C1500 Shortwide DD/Project
Gonna put the front and rear diffs of my 88, along with trans and transfer case in the Z71 chassis, and my 92 engine and exhaust, and set my entire '92 body on it.
|
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra C1500 Shortwide DD/Project
Looks much better with the windows and no covers!
|
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra C1500 Shortwide DD/Project
Thanks Bill! Truck will look even better when it's a Z71. Lol.
|
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra C1500 Shortwide DD/Project
Welp, got the black Z71 all stripped down. Here's the new home for my 92. 1993 K1500 Z71 frame.
http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...34196128_n.jpg http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...65367422_n.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...38463593_n.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...48747752_n.jpg Needs more cleaning and prepping, which it'll get. |
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra C1500 Shortwide DD/Project
And so it begins.
Frame is stripped. Wiring harness, fuel lines, brake lines, entire front suspension. Only things left in the frame that are coming out, are skid plates and the front diff. Frame will be cleaned, pressure washed, and sand blasted before prep paint, and new parts. http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...45958589_n.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...78323918_n.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...17056969_n.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...46154494_n.jpg |

I already posted these in my 88 thread, but since they correspond with my Z71 build, I'll post them here. Stripped 88 frame, and the trans and transfer I'll be using; 700R4 Auto and NP241 transfer case.

Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Goodies and such:
New steering wheel http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps06090725.jpg Battery life on my truck was going to crap, so I did a few adjustments. Firstly, new alternator. Replaced my serpentine belt while I put the new alternator on. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...psfebcb299.jpg And then, added a second battery. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps47debd5e.jpg I think it'll be fine. |

I didn't know any better when I moved down to Texas because where I am from in Montana we don't have Auto Zone, I learned in a big hurry their parts are the worst. Everything I bought from them had to go back. Now all I run for batteries are the Optima yellow tops, but even those can be sketchy since they started making them in Mexico. |
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
I've never had issues with Duralast Golds, actually. I run Duralast Gold batteries in almost everything. When it comes to AutoZone...if it's not Duralast, I don't use it. I will never buy Valucraft. But I do know what you mean. Not everyone has the best luck with parts.

Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Frame is completely painted, and it's now half a roller.

Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Thank you Bill. What you don't see is the rear end I got mounted after the pictures. It was too dark to take pics afterwards, so they'll be up tomorrow, and my 92 will also be stripped down tomorrow. It will be driving and on the road by Friday.
|
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Here's the pics of the rear end mounted. Sadly it's getting pushed back about a week. I caught a bug and I'm sick as hell...and combined with this weather I'm not doing squat.

Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Picked up a new grille last night. Been looking high and low for one of these damn things.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...psb816097e.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...psd64a0168.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...psb8ca80a8.jpg |
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Here's a couple updates. First, the new lenses for the new grille.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...psdac8b848.jpg Second, I got bored and put it in. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...psbe4eb47d.jpg No bumper filler on the bottom of the grille right now. That's only because since I'm building my Z71, the 94-98 front bumper brackets will just go on that frame, instead of having to put them on my busted 2WD frame, then take them right back off. |
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
I like the grill, it looks better than I thought it would.
|
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
I have always preferred the GMC grill on the 95-98 years. It does look good on there!
|
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
 Thanks dad, and Bill.

Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion

Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
A couple teaser pics I guess you could say.
Got the frame moved back in the driveway and sitting on its own. Still not complete, but getting there http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...psb16d196b.jpg And my 92 is in its final resting place as a 2WD pickup. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps8cccfa9f.jpg |

I now have a bright orange drive-train :D

Almost ready to drive! ;)
Looking good on the swap so far.:metal: |
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Thank you Bill. Still need to straighten out my exhaust, then run all my lines. Hopefully, it will be on the road next week. Still not done with my engine. Next is to finish painting the front of the engine orange, then pull the valve covers and spray them black. Also have new rails to re-route my plug wires.
How's the '70 coming? |
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion

Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Y'know that feeling you get, when you feel like you've created Frankenstein?
It's almost complete...still needs the bed, grille, and bumpers http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps98de21ab.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps29dd56c4.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps27f4dfa2.jpg May be incomplete bodywise....BUT IT LIVES. Before the MAJOR update...
May 3, 2013. SNOW. The hell is this white crap doing here in May?! http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps513ef266.jpg Now for the good stuff ;) The beast lives. Got it all back together tonight. Still got some work, but it's together and it runs. Here's a little height comparison with dad's  http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...psbaa72456.jpg It's a good bit taller than what I figured it would be. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps1347c080.jpg Also has one hell of a rake. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps4717b8f6.jpg |
