Re: 64 chevy swb on a 94 chevy caprice frame w/ lt1
Worked some more on the firewall this weekend. Filled the rest of the holes including the wiring harness hole. I cut a new one out a little bigger and under the inner fender bolts.
I also tore deep into the caprice. I pulled the entire wiring harness out and started making plans on how to use it. The power doors, windows and mirrors harness is plug and play so 2 connectors and it goes away. It won't be the prettiest truck under the hood but it will function!!! Next goal.... Started before March 1st!!! We shall see. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: 64 chevy swb on a 94 chevy caprice frame w/ lt1
Maybe for your next project you can put a 4x4 frame under the caprice???

Did some work on the firewall. After a great recommendation I am going to fill the last hole where the heater was at and smooth it all out then route the lines elsewhere..

Thanks madmax... I think..
I am changing the name of my build to better reflect. I think it better reflects what I am doing... |

Great work on your truck! That's too bad on the a/c not fitting in there. But it'll be a more clean and easier install with an aftermarket kit.

Boy, I am tired of body work already. I would rather be fab'ing up the frame... The firewall, dash and windshield area are ready for primer. All of the holes in the firewall are filled. It turned out pretty good. I hope to prime it tomorrow or the next day so I can sit the cab back down and pray it still fits..
Painted the bottom half with POR15. So the top will be body color and the bottom will be gloss black. Not sure how that will look but it will be different... |

Fused the clutch pedal to the caprice pedal assembly. The hole above the switches where the washers are welded on is the top mount. The caprice used the very top hole but mine is now on the side. Welded the nut on the back side and two washers for spacing.
The caprice assembly swings to the right of the column and the clutch pedal was used to swing it directly under the steering column. sweeeeetnesssss!!!:bann: |
Re: 1964 Caprick-up = (C10+SWB)*(94 Caprice 9C1+LT1)
Nice firewall work! The Caprick-up, LOL, is really coming along! Gotta love those old 9C1's! My dad has used a toilet bowl (throttle body) injected 9C1 350 in his long gone 66 C-10 longbed and a fuel injected 9c1 350 in his 64 C-10 stepside. He absolutly loved the fuel injected one. And of course i still have a 88 9C1 caprice that is gonna be restored some day. For now shes a daily driver/parts runner!

I didn't get much done this weekend... But I did manage to sit the bed back down on the frame. It is about 1/4 of an inch low but that was planned so I can shim it into place. Measuring 5 times, cutting halfway stopping and measuring three more times seemed to have payed off.

Dang, that caprice was clean (compaired to all 8 of mine up here in the rust belt) Looks like a good project.

I am not real sure how the weight distribution will be and whether that will cause problems on or not. I am not schooled enough on ABS. But I think it will be pretty close. It may even be lighter then the caprice when I get done.. That caprice body is HEAVY... The curb weight shows to be 4600 pounds.. 4100 dry.. |
Re: 1964 Caprick-up = (C10+SWB)*(94 Caprice 9C1+LT1)
I have been looking at replacing the 9C1 springs with Impala SS springs. They have the same tension but the SS spring is 1.5-2 inches lower. The ride is supposed to be about the same. I can get an entire set for less than 200 bucks delivered to the door..
The plan for now is to keep the springs I have until the entire body weight is on it then see if I like what I see... |

The 9c1 springs ride a little harder. We been swapping back and forth for years, and some guys like the 9c1 front and SS rears, others like the SS all the way around. |
Re: 1964 Caprick-up = (C10+SWB)*(94 Caprice 9C1+LT1)
The ss springs in the back may level it out real nice. I have looked at 2 inch drop also. I have been debating on it a lot. But I do not want it to low.. I would like to still be able to pull my boat to the lake.... The great thing about the Caprice is they have a ton of bolt on parts for the suspension..

Re: 1964 Caprick-up = (C10+SWB)*(94 Caprice 9C1+LT1)
You could bag it easy, too. Making awesome progress, I love the fab work.
