One more question.. what did you use for the gasket? I like that idea just in case.

The gasket was standard front lip gasket for a hard top. It fits under the front edge of a hard top for sealing the top to the WS frame. LMC catalog shows it.

I didn't like the way the L-brackets attached to the WS frame, not stable. So, I found those plastic insulators in some of my junk, got a longer hex head bolt and screw every thing down tight. The (Rob) header had to be trimmed back eleveate the door top hitting the header. So I used a cut-off tool and angle grinder to shape, drill and notch the end. You will have to do this or the (Rob) header will not sit tight to the WS frame. Also, I used a hacksaw to cut softopper aluminum bar about half way down and then hand bend to the correct spot for the outside snap placement.

Re: Softop installation no Holes

Nice install but kinda defeats the purpose to install that softopper strip on top in order to cut down on elements intruding from under the canvas .My install did not require any further reinforcement and you virtually cannot tell its there .once again I am available by phone if someone requires more info for the installation 1-604-999-9574 Rob
As long as your happy with it is my concern . Just to let you know that the fibreglass is polyester in case you want to plug holes. Should be hearing from three others on the install and the making decision on continued supply .Thanks Rob

I'm very satisfied. I'll probably scuff and re-paint the complete header again when I remove the soft top for the winter. It's been raining quite a bit this week, I believe its more water tight than the hard top. No leaks around header.:metal: The only thing that I don't like in the soft topper design the front window area. Its an open area. I think I will make a L-bracket that bends down a little more. Also re-install the OE rain deflectors. Rob you mentioned rolling down the window to open the door. I agree - PIA! Again, great design on the "Rob" header. If it is installed either way (no bar or with bar) it works very well.

Re: Softop installation no Holes

Yeh David I just want to point out that I"m trying to make there might soon be a fix for the side windows to be leak proof by next summer hopefully. I think it will be good but it might require the co-operation of Softopper but have had no discussions as yet with them. But at the same time any mods on the Header can be easily repaired for that add on Regards Rob Happy Blazin !

Re: Softop installation no Holes

I do like the final appearance of the front roof line by adding this part. It gives the top look of a much cleaner install similar to factory convertible tops. I might be interested in one as a purely aesthetic value.

I have worked with fiberglass in the past and I can see you have put a lot of work into the tooling alone. Good job there Rob.

Re: Softop installation no Holes

So whatever happened with this? Was it a single run that has run it's course? Are they still available? Will there be more?

robs71k5 10-15-2014 05:53 PM

Re: Softop installation no Holes

Well here's the low down. I had a guy building them but he insisted on building ten minimum for him to make it worth his while. But if there was interest in less I could approach him on the cost . That simple ! The parts were selling for $260.00 each which was a good deal. I have two and am using one to build a chalet top, But I guess that's were they petered out . There were only about 30 sold maybe 15 sold to US mainly Texas and Caifornia and the rest In Canada.

Re: Softop installation no Holes

I'd be interested in one, but probably not until early next year. Right now I have so many parts spread out all over the place while my project is under construction. It's amazing how much more space one of these trucks takes up in pieces than together.

It's a great product, you can tell Rob has done his homework on it. Once mine is on I'll post some pics.

interested if you do another production batch

Re: Softop installation no Holes

Thank mtully for the kind words. I hope you really get the desired affect of your header as it was intended to be a hidden installation giving way to the original design of the Blazer with softop installation. That's the way I approached the install on mine and I'm certain they will get even better as each install passes . I hope I can get some more made for the members as it can possibly make these trucks truly non dependent on the hard top . Still working on the side window but lots of politics going on with this development and not sure of the next step. Anyway good luck and always looking forward to new pics of our Blazer babes
